  • I’m experimenting with Dupli color engine high glossy enamel spray to use as a sealer on poured tiles that I plan to make into coasters. I’m looking for an alternative that would give me a very high shine and also a product that Could be used for hot and cold drinks as a coaster.
In this video I’m doing an experiment with the product that is heat resistant to 250°F. I’m showing you step-by-step how I did the experiment how many coats I put on how long I waited and video of the results.
I plan to do a part two video using the 500° heat resistant spray and repeating the same experiments as in this video.
I receive no monies or compensation for recommending any product or retailer within my videos.

I have used epoxy resin twice on glassware and I do not have the proper safety protection gear as well as an HVAC intake /outtake system that is necessary to use it safely. No epoxy resin is safe without proper gear and precautions.
Two weeks later, after “curing” the cup still sticks!

Thank you for sharing your experiment. I'm glad you showed the unwelcome results!! Now I won't have to go through that!! And.... I appreciate that you showed how this spray does work beautifully on your awesome Christmas bulb ornaments!!

Thank you! I’m glad I could use the 250 degree spray on ornaments!

Best to use resin for a smooth glass coat.. There are dimples throughout the tiles from spraying the engine spray. I used to use engine spray to coat my alcohol inked tiles and they had the same dimple effect.

I’m not a fan of using Epoxy resin. I have health issues and small animals in my house and did not want to jeopardize their safety. Epoxy takes a lot of extra equipment in order to use it safely and I’m not in a situation to do that. I find the engine spray does not leave dimples and it seems fairly safe to use in a well ventilated area.

Why not use the regular clear coat from duplicolor

I think there are two different versions of it. And I was using the first version with heat resistant up to 250°. Now I posted this in a lot of my art groups and several people have told me that once you’ve sprayed it it has to cure for up to two or three weeks so I’m looking at that as well and I will update in the video description if curing works.

So why did you not put in the oven & cure it like the instruct you to do? Not a very good experiment if you don’t follow the curing process, of course it’s going to stick if not cured!

I cure them in the sun outside during the summertime. Where I live, it is incredibly hot and leaving them in the sun for 4 to 5 hours, is enough to cure them, so they do not stick. I did not put them in the oven because I cook in the oven and I didn’t want to mix food with chemicals, I don’t have a separate oven just for tiles but I have been looking into toaster ovens for just this purpose

@@agould105 fair enough but you really need to highlight the reason as to why they stuck as it’s definitely not the product that is the problem on why it stuck, had you of cured it as per product instructions it would not of stuck, many reviews on this product carry on how it is sticky but most have not followed manufacturers directions so are experiencing stickiness due to human error.

I’m unaware of how it is properly cured as I was not using it on an engine. I was looking for an easy way to seal a tile and to make it shiny without using resin.

@@agould105 I understand what you where trying to do I myself are looking for something to use other then resin on coasters myself so I totally get your idea & process but when doing these things it’s good to get all the info & follow directions of the product you are using regardless of what you are using it on. Anyway it would be good to use this product & cure it at high temp other then the sun & then see how it goes. I’m curious to know myself, unfortunately that particular one you have used I can’t seem to find here in Australia to buy, we have same brand but it’s called Dupicolour high heat clear which can withstand over 1000 degrees celsius in heat, it too must be cured in a hot oven so I’m going to give that ago, as much as I love resin it’s to messy, toxic & time consuming & it takes me 2-3 layers to get a level no defect finish which is annoying & expensive. Thank you for responding 😊

No problem. Have you seen my other video where it did work? Look for part two. It was a slightly different spray. I am always looking for safer alternatives that tend to be less expensive.
