    Get stress healing jesters off the stage coach and go on stress recover runs for your key units. If not, cycling through different party comps will allow your units to passively stress heal whilst idle. No need to spend any gold.

      @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming  Před 5 lety +12

      David Toh That is a good way to do it. I personally do not cling/focus on runs to heal stress for early game heroes unless they have good quirks or are a class I really like (such as the jester). The awesome thing about the Darkest Dungeon is all the ways you can do things well. Thank you for commenting and adding insight!

    • @raylen-3053
      @raylen-3053 Před 4 lety +7

      Well that may not work well early game, as the jester cant stress heal very well without the skill being upgraded

  • @Chikanuk
    @Chikanuk Před 4 lety +26

    Money is indeed everything. But its can be solved early - antiquarians! Eearly one do run regular raid with focus on resources, especially paintings. Prefer mission with paintings in reward. Dont upgrade unnesessary stuff for paintings, and save money. Got 1-2 antiquarians asap. Run apprentice medium+ (with one or more campings) dungeons with one in team. Buy more food than usual and open antiquarian "free trinket" camp skill. Run dungeon with best guys and open as less curios as possible (ofc open all with her, if soneone dont know yet it give extra loot). Then you done - put out the torch and if full darkness open go back and open everything you left, dont replace money with resources in this run. You got TONNS OF MONEY now. With 3-4 runs you can got 100 000+ gold + 3-4 extra trinkets. Buy bank with first blueprint from event.
    Now you can forget about money.
    Upgrage trinket shop - and now you can swim in trinkets. Easy game, easy life.
    Not so much on stygian, but still userful if you can pull it early enouth.
    Btw - farm shambler in T3 dungeons untill you got all his trinkets. With team of heroes who have their first upgrades on armor and skills he kinda easy. On veteran and especially champion lvl shambler much stronger, and his trinkets dont have such great effect here.
    Also this torchless endings work in regular runs aswell, both in the end and before camp.

  • @alternate3787
    @alternate3787 Před 5 lety +42

    Two things I have to add:
    First: look into camping skills early on. Camping is incredibly powerfull and based on the camping skills your party has a middle or long run can come out much easier than a short run. Add that to the better trinket and gold reward and you should never feel afraid to take a middle or long quest.
    Second: always buy the full amount of food when you take a quest. Its important. Camping will consume food (you should always invest 8 food into a camp), your party will randomly become hungry and you can use food to heal deaths door between fights.
    Bonus tip: if you go into the cove you should bring additional shovels and herbs. There are two chest types that give additional loot if a shovel is used and one herb can heal a random negative quirk from one of your heros if used on a coral. Also the coves traps cause a nasty debuff you want to get rid off. Investing into these two items can heavily pay off!

    • @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming
      @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming  Před 5 lety +4

      I agree with both of those statements. In my second play through I heavily leaned on the medium dungeons and I noticed a strong difference in trinkets and gold immediately.
      I do forget about the shovel curio for the chests, I often avoid shovels in the early game because of how expensive they are, but in the cove they are huge bonus. Thank you for adding to the community!

    • @HuhWhatHuhwhatHuh
      @HuhWhatHuhwhatHuh Před 4 lety +1

      Regarding those curios, it can be dangerous to use all of your shovels in the beginning, therefore those can be picked up after you know all shovel path curios are discovered it taken care of. Or you can bring in an extra shovel or two if you want to cover for an additional curio.

    As a beginner, I've started to feel like I have to look around the internet to understand the game because this "trial and error (so so so much error)" kinda learning thing is beginning to piss me off so much. I feel more like I'm a complete failure and less like this is a thrilling adventure. I play these games for escapism, not my normal daily life.
    I was so heartbroken when my "heroes" started dying and everything just kept going to crap. Because of the way the game told me that I could always turn back and keep the party members alive, it made me feel guilty if someone died. Nice job, I felt like garbage only to find out that these guys are expendable and you are supposed to use them, throw them out and even let them die to survive, to only keep selected few alive and sane. I'm really angry but I do have to admit it is in a very cruel way interesting.
    I suppose you gotta be a monster too to survive the darkest dungeon.

      The game can be frustrating initially and there is a section of the community who will refuse to validate anything other than this game is easy. Fortunately for me, I have lived in both realms in this games life.
      I had many similar feelings as you, because honestly the game doesn't disclose a lot of information and is meant to punish for you lack of knowledge. The good news is, once you arm yourself with enough knowledge the game because significantly easier, and this is where people say the game is not hard at all. The first playthrough is the worst, the second time through is so much more enjoyable. If you are feeling some of these emotions, I would look up what curios do and what bosses do. This should cut down on the levels of frustration and the curios will help remove quirks and buff you for dungeons. If you need more help, feel free to comment on any video and I will do my best to get to you.

    Maybe it’s just personal preference, but if you’re in need of gold, I’d recommend going antiquarian runs over torchless ones. Torchless runs make it much likelier for you to get critter to hell in basically any fight that is tougher than maggots, and can more easily risk you losing a character and having to leave early, whereas having a character that doesn’t contribute as much damage and utility as the rest is fine, if you are prepared. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

    • @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming
      @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes torchless runs can offer much more risk/stress and hero death. That's why I would typically take in 4 nobodies and minimal provisions. Antiquarians are good ways to make money and that is why I always kept one around it's the safer and more progressive option. But if you don't have an antiquarian or in the situation to use one, picking up 4 people from the stage coach can be a good option.

      D Cooke
      First off, Thank you for subscribing. In the beginning of the game you are going to have to be rather cut throat with who you keep and don't keep. If an individual receives too much stress ( above 60 is where I draw the line for the first weeks in the game usually), since you do not have many good options of stress reducing and quirk removal. It is a judgement call of when you want to stop getting rid of heroes and start keeping them.
      You do not always have to use the campfire. I have gone through medium dungeons without using the campfire, and this usually happens when I do not have an ability to ward off a night time ambush. I have also deleted campfires from my inventory to stash additional loot near the end.
      You can use food manually outside of fights, but not during. If you click on the food it should consume it. Be wary though, because you want to leave enough food for your people to eat as you progress through the dungeon. I hope this has clarified some questions :).

      @@HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming I'd be really interested to know what your thoughtsare as such an experienced player. I only play that mode, in the hopes of beating it, but can't. It's the character deaths limit that wrecks things for me and makes RNG much more significant.

    • @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming
      @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming  Před 4 lety +2

      I just read the rules to Stygian and dang I can see why that is tough. The worst thing to me is that 86 weeks, since it pushes you into quicker decisions and heroes being gone for stress heals on a weekly basis is more punishing. The regular bosses would not get priority anymore (at least to me), thus the main goal may be to plan out the 4 parties you need to defeat the darkest dungeon. Find those 16 characters and try to keep a back up of one or two as you go through.
      I will definitely look into it, but it may not be until Late September or early October. In the meanwhile feel free to ask questions, I will try to answer from a theoretical place for now :).

    • @skyisclear8461
      @skyisclear8461 Před 4 lety +1

      @@HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming Yes you're right - better players than me will probably disagree but the bosses are not worth the risk for the trinket reward (except the Brigand Pounder maybe, who is perhaps the easiest to manage anyway). The Shambler is a total no. On balance I think I would avoid Vvulf. I would say you need two parties for each DD, allowing for one failed run on each, meaning you need a full roster of fully uppgraded lvl 6 characters by week 79 at the latest. Allowing for the first fail each time to take one character (one death, one taken in the retreat), and for the two automatic deaths in the last dungeon, that means by the time you hit the final four dungeons you can have a maximum of 3 in the graveyard. Better players than me wouldn't need so many failed attempts at the final dungeons.

      @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming  Před 5 lety +22

      @BrutalKombos kills DO NOT equal XP/resolve. Completing missions will grant xp/resolve. Short missions give the least, medium give 2nd most, and long obviously give the most.
      In the early game, I heavily recommend taking resolve 0's mainly through short dungeons, since one short dungeon means a quick jump to resolve level 1. This allows them to get some armor and skills when you unlock those options later in the game. In the first 5 to 10 weeks do not worry about stocking up on individuals or treating some individuals for high stress damage or bad quirks. Keep adding and discarding bad individuals until you can get some gold and items below your belt along with some building upgrades.
      I hope this helped, if you have other questions feel free to @ me. Thank you for watching!

    • @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming
      @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming  Před 5 lety +2

      I would avoid stress facilities for a little bit and here is my reasoning: in the early game besides Dismas and Reynauld it is recommended to let go of heroes that get too much stress. If you really like a hero or a trait on a hero feel free to sit on them. I would go for the skills building (1st upgrade) since this is where you can increase your accuracy and healing abilities. After one level in that, feel free to upgrade a stress facility that benefits your party more. If large a number of individuals can only use the Abbey upgrade those first and then the bar. Reducing the cost of the sanitarian for quirks and diseases can also be more beneficial than early stress facility. Certain diseases and traits can become too crippling in my opinion. If you want more information, please feel free ask. This post go rather lengthy already. Thank you so much for your time!

    I feel like the logic behind the battle vs. scouting missions is a bit oversimplified. It’s very possible that a battle room could be at the end of a branching off pathway, sometimes forcing you to explore every room even if not all the rooms are battlerooms.

      I would have to watch the video again but getting to 4 heroes per week is crucial for the beginning of the game. Expanding roster size is crucial for diversity and a larger roster size will slow down hero resolve level, meaning you aren't closing out your easy dungeons as fast. The hero level is irrelevant for a while, also I should say to upgrade first, doesn't mean until completion necessarily. Thank you for sharing!

    • @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming
      @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming  Před 3 lety +2

      Dungeon difficulties should scale in proportion to your resolve levels. Veteran dungeons will start appearing but in smaller numbers if you mostly keep level 0s and 1s. Once you reliably start to get 2s and 3s, the veteran dungeons will begin to become the majority while champion and apprentice will be in the minority.
      Therefore my advice is, do not go into veteran dungeons even if they are there until you are ready.

    As a 600 hours darkest dungeon veteran I have 2 things to add:
    1. This game isn't RNG at all
    2. If an item literally says "Put torch here to kill yourself", walk past it and do not, i repeat, do NOT put a torch in here and whine how RNG unfairly killed you.
    The topic of this game, both in gameplay and lore is "Know your limit", only go as far as your team can. Do not take dice rolls that will only end badly and walk away if the risk is to great. You make progress if your guys survive and you come back with more gold than you spend going in. "Finishing a quest" is only, ONLY, an extra if the mission is going well.
    If one (ONE) of you guys hits deaths door (not even dying), then you failed 4 battles ago. Because you ignored/overlooked like 20 red flags that the tables are turning and you should cut your losses (or winnings)

      @@TheTSense A lot to unpack here. First off, thank you for your feedback and sorry you disliked the video. I would argue you probably are the exception or played it super safe the whole time which is why you did not lose anybody until the end boss. Most people at least get tripped up with some of the bosses first time through, but congratulations.
      Regarding the game as not rng, is a slight overstatement, since almost every mechanic functions on some form of rng. Now, that does not mean there are not ways to reduce it, or use it in your favor. I would agree people should not use rng as the primary factor as why they are not progressing. I put up that small disclaimer because people are going to have differences experience than what I show and say. It is possible people just get critically stroke a lot, and have to constantly back out with low loot and heirlooms. Unlikely, but possible.
      Once again, thank you for you feedback and have a great day!

      @@HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming To be honest I didn't expect this reaction in a youtube comment section.
      But what you are describing just ties back into the games story - so if you finished the game you should be aware.
      The Great Evil was unearthed because the red flags went ignored, because someone keeped pushing when he should have turned back.
      The Player gets to the end because he resistend the temptation, and in the final hallway you are taunted with this idea of not valuing your heros lifes.
      You on the other hand seem to have gotten there by trial and error, just throwing yourself at the game over and over until one day you get to the end - and you made a CZcams Video telling new players to make the same mistake because "that's just how the game is played"
      (I mean come on, there is gameplay of 2 Lepers in this video)
      You see why I reacted so harsh? Like a craftsmans telling the new and young workers that it is perfetly normal to lose 4 fingers in 1 year of work, when in reality you shouldn't lose one in 30.

    • @HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming

      @@TheTSense I do understand the story, and I did not say the story does not have any parallels in morals/warnings you have been stating (at the time I did not think that was useful state, since the player will find this out). Also, I think the only harsh things you said were the game is not rng and I do not understand the mechanics. The game is filled with RNG, but it is not the reason why you will fail (I think we both agree on that...).
      Second, I did not look up anything my first time through which helped and hurt how I saw the game. If you look things up, or go in for a fight or two and then back out, it does make the game easier. I will say, not finishing missions in the early game is detrimental since you miss out on loot, heirlooms, gain additional stress, and have a higher negative quirk chance on a back out. These are costly in terms of gold and time, thus my tip, it is okay to let go of these heroes. An 80 stress and 4 negative quirk early game hero is not worth keeping in my opinion. This may be the reason why we disagree. I do not want to put words into your mouth, but it would appear you have a zero death/dismiss mindset while I say it is okay in the beginning (in the beginning not late game, in the beginning).
      Finally, the Leper, trust me, I understand the weaknesses to a Leper. He is just a personal like of mine, but his accuracy is bad and so is his row versatility. So you can criticize that and I agree the hero is rough.

      @@HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming "but it would appear you have a zero death/dismiss mindset while I say it is okay in the beginning"
      You need to dismiss a lot of heros, for all the reasons you named. However losing a hero in battle deals a lot of stress to the other heros in the team and makes it harder to get out of the fight alive.
      Run away and get even more stress on the team, try to fight with your team now being one guy short, or get wiped and lose 3 more heros and all the loot.
      Since you can remove Heros safely with dismissing them, there is zero reason to take a huge risk to the rest of the team by losing them in battle.
      Route A is safe, so you recommend to those who don't know any better to go down Route B and risk everything.

    I'm getting at the end of stygian deathless and to be fair never really in a pinch unless I did some gross mistake like forgetting supplies or switching moves so I think that the game is easier that it looks, I think that people find it hard due to a mix of:
    Bad/absurd compositions;
    Poor choice in which heroes can handle which location efficiently;
    General poor decision making in battles, the whole thing but mostly bad prioritizing
    Never remove very bad quirks early
    Due to bad/mediocre average runs, no money since it's all spent on stress healing in hamlet
    Wrong priorities in building structures
    Bad evaluation and aquisition of trinkets
    Wrong/scarce supplies
    Poor evaluation of the difficulty of a run, ie you think you're fine doing a long exp. with not powered-up heroes
    Even more stuff I don't remember on top of my head
    I do admit the game needs to be known before it can be played well, no way in hell game can be done efficiently on a blind run but on the normal difficulty it shouldn't be considered an extremely difficult game, it's fairer than it looks.

      I agree once you play through the game once most deaths should be avoided since you have knowledge of all assets. The only time I lose people now is when I am impatient and refuse to back out of dungeon I know is going to go south.
      Regarding the losing people can be beneficial part, I should have been more careful with my words. Obviously losing someone mid run is usually a run ending, but I should have explained that it is not the end of the world. Some people I talk to are really scared of losing a hero or dismissing people. In the early game most people are getting dismissed because of their bad quirks and potentially high stress they will take. So, I slipped in a way by saying if a hero dies it is no big deal, because they would have most likely been dismissed. Obviously, that is not true all the time, and deaths should be avoided once you start saving the people you want. Thank you for your comment!

      Also yeah, it was a little of a poor choice of words the way you put it, I wouldn't say a hero death is run ending either but deffo wouldn't encourage it.
      I'm getting to champion dungeons on Stygian, I'm at like week 40 and I have already killed 12 bosses, no hero deaths, 2 shamblers killed as well so when people say "ThE gAMe iS unFAiR!11!" it makes me absolutely mad.

      Regarding the game as super hardcore, I think people who are used to easy/hand holding games think this, since the game punishes lack of knowledge early and harshly. The game is complex and has a steep learning curve, no sense denying that.

      @@NocturnalNick I never said the game is easy, I just said it's easier than people believe, since on average people consider this game to be truly hardcore, which I really don't think it is.
      Like I said myself, the game needs a certain amount of experience to be run properly, but after that, the game is really manageable, while there are many games where it stays hard even if you're gettin close to the skill ceiling: conversely, once you reach the ceiling here you'll do well every single time since the game is a turn based RPG so in the end you only need knowledge to wreck the game.
      I'm at the end of my first Stygian run and it's still deathless, I do complete long champion expeditions with no stress no damage at the end which means that indeed the game is hard yes but far from hardcore or unfair.

    some of these tips are just bad

      Well thank you for sharing and refuting which ones are "bad". I listened to the video again and the biggest complaint people have is the let heroes die. I agree it was poor wording but that's the only I don't think will help much.

      @@HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming personally don’t think number 2 should of been a tip. I would of rather seen a tip on comps for each dungeon because there are some champs that just excel in other dungeons while others struggle. Like for instant hound master in ruins isn’t good because of mostly bleed damages and same with jester because of bleeds. You would rather want to take crusader, leaper, vestal, plague doctor or bounty hunter. Also trinkets would of been a good one because early trinkets like speed stone while it sounds dumb can give you a advantage if you have perks that slow speed early on.

      Fair about mentioning certain heroes into certain dungeons. This video was tough to make because of how many angles darkest dungeon takes into consideration. I have made trinket videos in the past because they are crucial to understand and use effectively. Thank you for responding.

      @@HiDdeNSQuiDZGaming 100% agree with you that it’s insanely hard to make a video helping out people on this because of the amount of angles. I think it’s a good video to help start out some people but it’s for sure tough to make it.
