Taming The Knucklebuster 44 Magnum - Hogue Monogrip Install on S&W 29-2

  • Smith and Wesson revolvers have never been particularly comfortable to shoot with their factory wood grips. In magnum calibers like the .357 and .44, shooting can be a punishing and unpleasant affair. I swap out the painful factory wood grips with the recoil absorbing rubber grips made by Hogue. They aren't even remotely good looking to me, but it tames the beast and makes shooting enjoyable again.

    The football shaped cut-out on left side of the wooden grips is NOT a thumb rest. It is a speed loader cut-out. With out the cut-out, you can not use a speed loader.

      Thanks for the info! I never really considered that before but it makes a lot of sense. You must be one hell of a burly dude to be speedloading 44mags : ) I was shooting 357s this weekend and my right hand still ain't right lol.

    I have a model 29 44 magnum, it does hurt to shoot after about 30 rounds. What amazed me was I shot a 500 smith and Wesson magnum and it was more comfortable to shoot I assume due to the grip.

    I just bought a 4 inch barrel 29 and thought my thumb was going to break off after I put a box through it. Going to have to pick up a set of these.

      I have a 6 in model 29 44 mag, I shit you not a 500 smith and Wesson magnum was more comfortable.

    To reduce the recoil u should try using 44 special that’s better then using the 44 mag

    See im wanting to to the opposite haha. I recently picked up a s&w Mod629 Classic-6 and like the ole classic look as far as the grips go. Good video !

      100% agree the wood grips look way better. I have mine vac sealed with desiccant packs for when I put her in the safe for good all dressed up. Take care and enjoy!

    Just bought a s&w 629 and was wondering how it was to shoot yours after the hogue grip was installed because the back is exposed,did you feel the recoil in the back of your hand?

    • @kailua808
      @kailua808  Před 3 lety

      Recoil is still substantial, exposed frame or not. Makes the gun a lot thinner and easier to point though. Even 357s hurt my hand after a box so your mileage may vary : )

    Mine is on its way 629 5inch super stoaked i feel the factory grip too small for a N frame

      congrats! yeah the factory grips are pretty nice on these but they aren't too fun to shoot. I hardly shoot mine to be honest as I greatly prefer the 357, but sometimes you just have to let freedom ring 🤙

    WHY are people wearing rubber gloves when they're only fitting grips?

    • @kailua808
      @kailua808  Před 2 lety

      Cause fingerprints on bluing make it rust eventually. Under the grips is a place where I already had some surface rust eat the bluing before I even bought the gun. Thanks for watching.

    Sorry but just for the Fakt you put a rubber grip on a classic like a Model 29 I had to give thumbs down
    Learn how to shoot a revolver instead to cover your deficiencies
    I shoot a .357 snubby with shorten wood grips without any pain.

    • @kailua808
      @kailua808  Před 4 lety +1

      Neat thing about grips is they can be swapped with one screw! I still have the original grips : )
      Not sure what shorten wood grips are, but if its for carry purposes to make it slimmer or print less, sure. This is no carry gun lol.
      Take care and stay safe, aloha from Hawaii!

      @@kennethmccullough7420 Hey Kenneth, I bought this set on ebay I believe. You'll have the choice between finger grooves or not.
      This looks like the one I have on Amazon, but please double check because I'm not 100% sure if the 29s came in round butt or just square off the top of my head.
