- Here's another Sly Cooper Parents Theory/Discussion video. Sly's parents were shown faceless in Sly Cooper Thievius Raccoonus. However, Sanzaru Games briefly showed Connor Cooper in Thieves in Time.
Sly's parents were always and still are a huge mystery. No one really knows why their faces were always hidden in Thievius Raccoonus, Band of Thieves and Honor among Thieves. Maybe it was simply to keep the parents a mystery; however, what if their faces were hidden for a reason? Could their faces perhaps turn into a plot twist?
Back in 2013, Mat Kraemer from Sanzaru Games and Kevin Miller, Sly's voice actor, discussed about the possibility of Sly meeting his parents in Thieves in Time. Kraemer believed it would alter the future easily, and the company didn't want to dive into that whole mess.
But, what if Sly Cooper decided to pay his parents a visit in the future? What if he meets his parents unintentionally? Would he save them from Clockwerk, or would he simply leave everything as they were in the first place?

I still think for near the end of Sly 5. Sly should time travel to like 1980s or 1990s sometime before his parents death like make friends with father with the feeling that very soon his father will die they could even have an emotional moment where Connor "Slys Dad" says "You look a lot a like my boy." All along sly knowing if he does not let his parents (Father) die. He will have never met his current friends and could reek chaos to the future. So he makes the decision to let time run its course and lets his parents (Father) be sacrificed to save time itself causing paradox. Before this however he has to say one final goodbye to his father. This is very emotional and would def cause tears like those we got during the ending of Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time.

Plus, while Sly's backstory was sad and tragic, it's also one of the reasons we all love Sly's character in the first place.
Man Vi, this one goes so deep into so many possibllities of what ifs that could possibly lead to a decision, a really hard decision.

In Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time, I think Sly knew that this gave him the opportunity to travel to anytime he wanted and that he even briefly thought about possibly taking advantage of this to go back and save him parents from being killed.
Having a game that shows sly's father's quest would be so cool.
The easiest thing to do is to have an episode with his father, without changing the future. If the future did change, then the plot of Sly 5 would be to fix all that.
Sly's dad is Waaaaaaay smarter than Sly, heck Bentley and Sly's dad have way more in common. Picture code cracking, a lab, technology. Sly's dad had stuff in jars.... What was his nerd specially?
So Bentley could be like a black sheep in in the family. Like Seldon from Big Bang theory. Or like sly didn't inherit his dad's smarts, but he did inherit cleverness.

However, while this was very tempting, Sly quickly decided it against this as he realized that he only met Bentley and Murray and became the great master thief that he is now because of losing them and the Thievous Raccoonus!

Time travel movies have taught me 3 things! 1. Traveling through time would be so cool! 2. Time travel can be very complicated and hard to comprehend. 3. And third, messing with time is not a game and the consequences for doing so can be very disasterous!

It would probably end up like when the flash saves his mom and realizes how much it changes the future, and trys to fix it. If u think about it it's kinda the same situation, the flash was who he was because his moms death and in the tv sieres when he trys to fix it and saves his mom he realizes he's not the flash any more, and he doesn't even know any of his friends.

I don't know if this is a theory or not, but what about this?
We know that in Sly 1, there is a painting of Sly's supposed parents on the wall when he peeks out from the closet as the F5 are ransacking and murdering until they tear apart the Thievius Racoonus. We also know that in Sly 4 TiT, Sly is left in Ancient Egypt with no way to travel back. If he DOES end up travelling back, who's to say that Sly is not one of his own ancestors? If the picture, looking back at it, in silhouette, represents Sly's father, the visuals are nearly identical, and therefore, Sly could be his own father. If this is true, then he would have had to have married Carmelita, and ended up with children of their own, brother and sister, Raccoon and Fox respectively. Knowing that he was an ex-thief, Sly would have taught his son, Sly Jr, the ways of his ancestry, which enabled the first game to begin, as just as he was about midway through the teachings (and Sly's own reading), the F5 came in and killed Sly's dad and Mom.
Ok, where does his sister come in? Well, knowing that the family was part law part crime, they wouldn't want to subject a cops and robbers feel to their family, so they would have sent her away to a boarding school. Being a thief, Sly's father could have paid for it indefinitely. This may be why there are no mention of Carmelita's parents within the game.
If Sly and Carmelita are indeed brother and sister, then the game series promotes incest as Carmelita now knows of her brother Sly Cooper as the thief she's been trying to capture since she got into law enforcement. But, because he travelled back to the present from the past, she doesn't realize it's the same Cooper and settles down with him because she feels the same connection, and ends up restarting the loop.
Thanks for sharing! Sly marrying Carmelita and having kids in the future sure. One of their kids beings Sly himself is definitely weird, it's like saying Sly dates his mom in the future. I did talk about something like this in the ''parents'' video. I always wondered if Sly had a sibling, we don't know how many kids the Coopers had right?
Right, so subjecting the series to an incestuous point of view, although not socially acceptable in a lot of places, does put things in a new perspective.

If they want to implement his father somehow, I think that's the easiest approach. Sly would visit his father just like how he visited his ancestors. However, Sly should still be careful; a small change in the past can affect the future.

in sly cooper 4 the safe in the 3rd episode the treasure in the safe it says they haven't seen the last of clockwork so if in the 5th game they could fight clockwork again and clockwork knows how to timetravel and sends bently and murray to the same time as sly cooper and they meet their ancestor in ancient egypt and mabye he knows how to time travel since he wrote the thevius racoonus with knowledge from the future

My theory is if Sly does meet his parents but he's going to meet them before he was born or when they were like teenagers or kids and maybe he unexpectedly brings his parents together and they start dating because of his actions or maybe he meets his dad when the original Cooper Gang was still together

I do agree that if sly did save his parents then the timeline, which unfolded afterwards, would be completely different. Sly wouldn't have ended up in the orphanage and wouldn't have become life long friends with Murray and Bentley. As for what happens next is open to quite a lot of interpretation and assumptions since first game: sly seeks revenge against clockwerk, second game: prevent clockwerk from being revived a second time, after that:?????.
Also here's a theory I've wondered: is sly a thief because he wants to be one or was that expected of him? Bentley and Murray both did their own thing when sly left to be with Carmelita but he chose to steal once more; is it because he wanted to do that or because he was a Cooper and they were expected to steal things?
I love Sly Cooper and the gang, the whole collections of games. But the theory of sly is dark and I enjoy this video.
What if sly's mother survived and decided to take sly to the orphanage to protect him, and sly never talked about her to protect her.
But why wouldn't he mention his mother? For now, it's assumed she's dead considering the fact that Sly said Clockwerk caught up with his parents in Sly 2.

I also think that it would be wise to avoid running into yourself in the past or future. I'm not sure what would happen in that scenario, but whatever would happen, wouldn't be very good!
It really depends of the extent, I mean Sly interacted with his ancestors, his own blood.
Maybe Sly 5 would actually answer questions that we fans have. I hope we finally get some answers about his parents because The game gave us so little information about Sly's father and come to think about it NONE about his mother.So these theory's would bring out the information that we want/need. For me these theory's are not that far fetched. I mean the one when he has a choice to choose his buddy's over his parents that would be quite sad. How do you come up with these theories so fast?There sometimes far fetched but awesome to think about!

I think that it would be okay for Sly 5 to have a darker tone. All of the original fanbase is now 17-24 and can take and even enjoy a dark deep storyline now. I don't think they should go for rated M but I wouldn't mind a rated T game if it was for the right reasons(the right reasons being storyline tones rather than explicit content).
You're right, the fanbase is older now. The game could easily take a dark turn, I mean look at a Crack In Time where Ratchet basically died for a brief moment. If something tragic happens in Sly 5, the gang might try to use time travel to fix that.

Bently is more likely to say to sly not to save his perants because if he touches his younger self in any way it will cause a parodox because there cannot be to of you in the same time line also if he changes the past in anyway it could change the future (butterfly effect).

I don't think Sly could go back and save his parents without disrupting the timeline and altering the past and future too much. While you could theoretically go back and time, save lives or try to prevent many terrible events or disasters from occurring, you must also be aware of all the huge risks and consequences that would come with changing the past as well.

I kept hearing you say that if Sly saves his father, then he never meets Bently and Murray and all this bad stuff happens and such...and I had a thought. What if, in Sly saving his parents, he also manages to convince them to adopt Bently and Murray?
Granted, this video came out last year, so I'm sure someone else has already proposed this suggestion (in which case, I apologize for re-explaining this point to you), but still...it's not that far-fetched of a concept to consider. It's an orphanage, after all - kids who've lost their parents are meant to be adopted into foster families through it (or, failing that, at least live in the system until they become of age where they are no longer considered dependents).
But yeah...this could potentially fix the key problem in Sly saving his parents from certain death; Bently and Murray growing up with Sly under his father and mother's care - not just as friends, but also as literal brothers (in legal terms). He still meets them, still bonds with them, still grows up with them, and they also learn about the family trade from Sly's father as well. The team could be as strong as ever in their resolve, bond, and skill set, and Sly might even end up being far more prepared to face Clockwerk whenever the time came for him to do so than he originally was in the first game.

Thank you for sharing! Yes, many have shared this idea before but it's still cool to read :) How sure are we that Sly's mother would agree with Sly becoming the next honourable thief? Sure he was going to inherit the book, but with time, the mother would start having doubts.
While that may be true (or not - we know next to nothing about his mother; she might've been all for him pursuing the Cooper legacy of thieving for all we know), isn't it ultimately Sly's choice in the end if he wants to pursue his family's legacy regardless as to whether or not his mother approves? After all, I doubt the orphanage he was sent to would've approved of his dream of becoming a master thief or of Bently and Murray's desire to back him on it.
Maybe the disapproval would've had a bit more of an impact on him coming from his mother instead of just some strict old caretaker, but I still don't think Sly, Bently, or Murray would've changed their course too much within the given scenario, save for being raised in a family and taught by Sly's father.

True, but adult Sly does. The theory isn't regarding whether the child version saves his parents and convinces them to adopt Bently and Murray, but rather if the adult version went back in time to this point and did that.
in either case fanfiction would have covered that.

Well, what if he saves his parents and says to them they have to leave him to the orphanage at the age of 8 to save the future and they can live keeping a low profile after explaining the whole situation? I mean, his past life won't be changed and they can meet when he comes back from the future after growing up and all the adventures. His father can contact him once sly reached the age when he goes back to save him and so there won't be the trauma of discovering that his parents are alive because he went back to save them and when he comes back to the present he will find them alive like he planned, plus he grows up believing they are dead (or something that his parents will tell him when they leave him at the orphanage) like the normal story, meets bentley and murray, until he goes to the past to save his parents and the circle restarts. I hope you understand or I will try to reword.
I do understand. Think of this, if old Sly does tell his parents to leave him at the orphanage, what are the chances of Sly discovering his parents being alive? If they were kept alive, what would've happened to Clockwerk? It could've changed the future, causing Sly to just vanish and no longer be destined to time travel in the first place. Either he might die or just go to the timeline he's meant to be in, you know once he grows up with his parents alive. Interesting read :)

" Because he will grow up believing they are dead and he will do all the adventure until the time travel and during this he decides to save them and goes back, saves them and tells them to let him go to the orphanage and tell little sly that they are dead and hide until he's the age of the saving. Then he will go back to his present after saving them and finds them waiting for him because it was his plan. Is it clear? I mean, he does remember the adventures of the past during sly 4 and the future wasn't affected by the changes that the cooper gang did while helping the ancestors, so why wouldn't work now? I don't know about Clockwerk, maybe killing him during his parents deaths night will prevent Neyla and Bentley's chair other they could invent something to fake the parents death ( I mean there are pills that make the heart beat to stop and such as to look dead) so the fiendish five and little sly will believe they are dead (this will be more similar to the real story). I don't think Sly will vanish, because when something happened to the ancestor he should have vanished the moment they were in danger(since if they are captured he can't be born) and it didn't happen to Sly in Sly 4. My point is that he could grow up without his parents and with the cooper gang BUT he could have his parents alive during his older life.
And for what we know they could be alive since Sly never mentions the corpse or we never saw a grave and what do you think an 8 years old could distinguish a passed out person from a dead one after such traumatic experience? I mean they could have survived and hidden for his safety but this is a very unlikely theory ahahaha
Ari Lylie If old Sly had saved his parents and told his younger self that they were dead, wouldn't them actually being alive impact the future? Surely anyone would have find out about their existence. About the ancestors in Sly 4, technically yeah Sly could've vanished, but they were destined to rescue them and that's how time was kept stable, interesting topic by the way. Now you mentioned a grave, that is a scene I'd like to see in the Sly movie, I did talk about it in my let's discuss video.
yeah I love your videos and I saw them almost everyone in two days hahahah I would like that too in the movie (saw that video). Your point between the different of ancestors and my parents theory is right, didn't think it about it. I still think that they could live without being discovered and if you don't remember McSweany hid from Sly for 20 years circa (I'm talking about the second sly comic book from Sucker Punch, where Sly said to McSweany "if you told me before I would have rescured you way before"), same for Dottor M and many others. You made me realize that without the need of Sly to rescue his parents' time (or was the right form of the plural with ending "s": "parents's"? I really don't remember) could be disturbed, BUT if they make him go back to that time because of something like Sly 4 time problems, I don't know if him telling them everything and asking them to do what I said will create problems or no. This is a valid question I think, although it's a videogame and so it doesn't really have to stick completely 100% to have things would happen in reality :D (this is more a developers choice). Still I will be happy with just Sly meeting his father and him knowing Sly is his son; I really want to see them interact!

Ari Lylie About Sly meeting his father, this idea, fun fact, was discussed during one of the second funniest podcasts hosted by Kevin Miller and Justin Worsham. Sanzaru's Mat Kraemer was a guest once and compared this situation to Batman and Joker, something he didn't feel was necessary for Sly 4. As for Sly 5, who knows. okay, so what if sly was actually supposed to be a master thief villain? what if his dad was evil and all of his ancestors, and sanzaru games decided not to ruin our childhoods by making all of his ancestors evil? sure, when the fiendish 5 broke in, sly's father (Connor Cooper) he saved his family, like any other good family member, but maybe he didn't die after all and left sly and his wife? just to let his wife die and fake his death? this is a very weird theory, I know, but idk.
oh and also, here's another one... what if sly's father escaped the death of the fiendish 5 break in and escaped to eventually rebuilds himself? meanwhile, hiring all the bosses that sly has faced in the 3rd sly (as far as I remember, there is no clockwork relation in that game)? including the Octavio, Penelope, Dr M, but the thing with dr m, was that maybe he was always evil with sly's dad and his dad wanted to be the last Cooper of the family, and regretted having another son? he hired the bosses to take sly out of the family, as far as I know, Connor Cooper was a world class thief and he might've wanted to be the last one to do so. maybe Connor wanted to win the competition of being the greatest thief, aka the best COOPER thief of all time? and maybe Dr M was Bentley's Dad somehow, maybe the other guy was Murrey's Dad, and Sly's dad they were all part of a gang, yet to try to take out the coopers.
His ancestors, well some of them being evil doesn't sound crazy. Ok, the ancestors we saw in Sly weren't evil, but what about the others right? I always wonder about his mom, could she possibly be alive?
If you've read the comics, Connor seemed like a nice guy. Once Sly was born, he put an end to his adventures and let Mc. Sweeney hide the map to the vault.

If I were Bentley I would use a simulation of sly's parents out of his dna and map them out for him. And a cooper detector. In sly 4 thieves in time he mapped the cooper DNA and install an upgrade on sly's binocucom. What if Bentley founds out that sly wasn't the only child? What if he made a drone that has the cooper DNA to track another?

I just realized that Clockwerk is the only member of the Fiendish Fish to actually have a reason to attack Sly's dad. I mean, why the fuck was Raleigh there ? Or Muggshot ? Or Mz Ruby ? Or Panda King ? And why their future endeavors have nothing to do with Sly or his parents. I mean, Muggshot doesn't even have a fucking plot for his level. His just one big mean dude. And he's not even mean for a reason ! Just because children mock him ? How sensitive is this guy ? Raleigh want to be rich. Like, wow. Really sought after. Mz Ruby wants ghosts ... to ... take over Mexico. Fucking why ? And Panda King ... well he's a poor frustrated dude turn into an actual psychopath. I don't like that I really hope it doesn't happen like that....But I think that sly could save his parents n still meet them wat if Bentley n Murray team up n eventually know that they need some one like sly n go looking for him n he ends up teaming up with them either way
The theory is pretty dark. I think the easiest way is to simply have Sly meet his father just like how he met his ancestors. But at the same time, Sly has to be careful not to change the future too much.

time travel is confusing, wouldnt everything return to normal if sly saved his father in the past, if sly never meets bentaly, then he wouldnt be able to make a time machine, sly cant time travel back to his parents ,therefore he wouldnt be able to save them, so everything will be rewritten (also what if clockwerks slys mother :O)

Hmm... Perhaps Bentley and Murray will experience some weird changes in the future like some stuff randomly starting to disappear. Since Sly is in the past, he would have no idea of what's happening in the future. Yes, time travel is confusing. About stuff randomly disappearing, we had the pages of the Thievius Raccoonus fading away in Sly 4. People from the future can therefore experience changes.

hmmmm really interesting I could see Penelope doing something like that saving slys parents think about it saving slys parent will mean he would have never ment Bentley and you could say that would mean she would have never meet Bentley well yes and no see time travel rule number 51 if you were there you still have all your memory's and are unaffected by the change of the space time continuum so she could keep sly from meeting Bently by that way or even sending sly to a different orphanage then track Bently down to meet back up with him and start things over this time without sly I think if anything its sending him to a different orphanage but it could be either or either way Penelope gets Bently all to herself no sly no Murray and no carmalita.
Interesting! But, what if the future gets corrupted, where all villains are roaming the streets? Without Sly meeting Bentley, Sly wouldn't become the master thief/hero he is.
VTNVIVI very true the space time continuum is EXTREMELY fragile if you mess with it Penelope might take care of the 5 but everyone else will still be around doing bad things Penelope might put that into consideration when making the plan but what can she really do about all of those villains other then sly 4 because le paradox was only a b let to do things with Penelope help so they won't have to worry about the villains in that game and mabye sly 2 but that depends on what Penelope does with clockwork anything could happen

They could have avoided time travel and just referenced the ending of Sly 3, where Bentley is still working on a time machine.
uh bruh sly could save his parents and still be a thief think about it since sly has already beaten the fiendish 5 all he has to do is get his squad and his fathers squad and defeat them before the fiendish 5 attack the dad and with the fiendish 5 already finished off for the sake of the future they would have to send sly to the orphanage and around the time that the first game happens they should give him the thevious racoonus which would also mean that the events of sly 2 would happen then sly 3 then sly 4 which would be leaving sly in egypt then that means since the events and circumstances of sly 1 were already dealt with when sly was a kid sly 4 as we know it would not acually be sly 4 it would be sly 3 leaving sly 4 in the timeline to be how sly gets out of egypt and what ever happens next.
The future remaining intact, it's possible but very tricky! Yes, Sly could succeed at saving his parents. Like you said, for the sake of the future, Sly would have to be sent to the orphanage, but he'd have to convince his parents.

you're forgetting that the Cooper gang needed Panda King in Sly 3 to get to the Cooper vault. Also, Jing King would have never been born, General Tsao would have never been arrested and he would still rule China. Basically, with your theory, older sly needs to kidnap younger sly, tell him what happens in the future and puts him in the orphanage. then, older sly needs to go back to his dad's house, steal the thevious racoonus, and contact Bentley that way because nobody will see it except for the future Bentley. Then, older sly needs to run and give the book to younger sly and tell him about that
You might be able to go back and change small things without causing too much trouble, but if you were to try to change major events like 911 or the rise of Hitler in Nazi Germany, chances are you most likely just mess things up and inadvertently cause something worse to happen instead!
