He's got like 5 parts of pokemon shield uploaded. It's a normal playthrough. Although I don't think he ever finished.
He's also got a finished playthrough of Vietnamese Crystal, which is pretty normal.

"A strange inbetween translation." That's pretty common for Chinese games. Back 10 years ago, if you wanted an English version of a PS3 game that wasn't coming to the west, you'd import the Chinese version. They weren't always the best translation, but at least you could play Aquanaut's Holiday somewhat in English.
I feel like that Pokemon Diamond bootleg of Telefang is something a lot of people growing up in the early 2000's came across. A friend of mine had it on a bootleg cart that had entirely legit games, except for that. And if I remember right my friend was genuinely convinced it was a legit obscure Pokemon game. Of course we were like 9 years old but still.
It happened to me too, but instead, it was with a ROM that i played on the Rew GBC Emulator.
That's how I was introduced to Telefang too. The original game is actually pretty fun and has some awesome monster designs.

By now, I've seen probably a dozen bootlegs of that Smurfs game - and they _all_ have the same gamebreaking bug of the first key not working/existing. Quality™.

The key does work, at least for this specific Smurfs bootleg. The door's hitbox is just on the right side, not the center.
They probably just didn't know how to move said hitbox after changing the graphics.

Both of bad translated Pokemon gold had made based on the Japanese version, I guess.
In the Japanese version, a number of characters of Pokemon's name had been limited to 5 (now is 6). So Pokemon's name is supposed to be weird to observe that limit.
Cyndaquil(Hinoa) is ヒノアラシ(Hinoarashi), Totodile(Wani) is ワニノコ(Waninoko) and Chikorita(Chico) is チコリータ(Chicolita or Chikolita).
In other words, the Japanese name was probably transcribed into English and the first five characters were used as the name except some.

Man a lot of the games that joel played in this bootleg are in a bootleg 64-in-1 GBC cart I still have to this day. And just like he said the 64-in-1 is indeed, a scam, it's more like, 30ish games with duplicates with extra lives for a lot of the games.

Little does Joel know, that I own Pokémon Diamond (Keitai Denjū Telefang) with a grey cartridge and also Super Mario 4 (although its on a multicart). The only real winner is the first one to get a physical copy of the German or Spanish Pokémon Jade.

Got a copy of it when I found an old dirty gameboy color with a really crusty battery pack covered in white and green crystallized battery acid in a bin of gundam toys in a multivendor retail store called the pelicans roost in Wilmington. Was able to buy it for like a dollar because it was in such a condition , cleaned it up and got it to run and played the crap outta the pinball game that came with it. Never beat it though

I've never seen anybody else play this ever! I've always wanted to dump the ROM myself, but never had the equipment to do so... Funnily enough, the save battery is still good over 20 years later!
The translations start out a bit odd and slowly degenerate into the worst gibberish ever, and it's hilarious. I remember one time battling my friend on a real version of gold and it had some pretty fucking WILD glitches and corruptions! All the move and item names were messed up and I remember one of the moves being called TOBACCO

Game Boy is region free which is why the Super Game Boy is easier for capturing gameplay.

Think I had the same Gameboy Color Advance Pokémon Gold bootleg cartridge as a kid, I remember being thrilled even with the five-letter Pokémon names and the translator that intermittently gave up, especially towards the end.

About the game Serpent, the gameplay is a little weird (I like that game for some reason) :
- You press LEFT to go 90° on the left and A to do 90° on the right. The B button launch some missiles if you grabbed those.
- Unlike a regular Snake game, the idea is not to make the enemy eat his own body but to make him unable to move for a few seconds.

Those Pokémon Gold/Silver fan-translations date of a time back when Pokémon games (or games in general) didn't release have a world-wide release, so bootleg copies were rushed to fill the gap until the official localization

@@scrittle I wasn't referring to Joel's channel specifically when I commented about removing video links, instead, on CZcams in general. Some channels sometimes removes links from comments. I remember getting my entire comment deleted as opposed to shadow-banned a few times.
As you can see, I did post the link below and it's still there, 1 month later. I just didn't add to the main post so it wouldn't get deleted with the context.
Edit: I can confirm that the link is in fact not showing up on the comments (I opened a private window and it wasn't there). I guess that explains when I sometimes click on "View 1 reply" on CZcams and nothing is on the replies.

Holy shit I legitimately had that silver bootleg as a kid and this is the first time I've seen someone else play it (and Dr Joey of all people!). I knew for sure it was the one because outside of the bizarre corrupted Pokémon names the most vivid thing I remember is YOU FIND.......WOO
I got it from a dodgy electronics store in Lanzarote (fun fact, they used acidic ink on their receipts that melted a few hours after buying something) as it hadn't come out in the UK yet. I remember the guy letting me test it to show it worked, but only up to the title screen. I discovered pretty soon why!
I was too young to comprehend how there could be a fully functional, brand new Pokémon game that also had the most broken English and it legitimately ruined Johto era Pokémon and subsequently Pokémon as a whole from then on lmao
I still have the cartridge but it doesn't seem to boot anymore
