I just love how Joel really hoped this would be his dream/nightmare game and then it did every single thing he doesn't want to see in a horror game, just straight up going through every single item in the checklist. Amazing.

i think its the principle of Jaws: "if i can see how goofy the monster looks its not scary"
If you go for a walk in the woods at night, and you shine a light and see the reflection of eyes... but dont see what those eyes are connected to, its more unsettling than seeing they belong to a fox or even something scarier like a wolf... because that "unknown" factor leaves your brain wondering what to do. do you back down and take off, or do you challange it and hope its not a mama bear, the processing time kicks in and some people become paranoid because there isnt enough info to judge.

For those who don't know, that woman's picture appeared on a PSA that was broadcasted in Canal 5 from Mexico, named Canal 5 Al Servicio de la Comunidad, where people would report disappeared relatives on national TV (this is kind of a meme because of the out of place, lowkey scary and kind of depressing ambience of the PSA in middle of the jolly cartoons and kid shows broadcasted on the channel, it has been shown time to time from the early eighties, and its actual iteration isn't as scary as the older ones)
The thing is that Selene was reportedly disappeared in 2001, and many people say that because of her uncanny valley appearance she's actually a made-up pattern of the average mexican woman made for identifying other women in the case of missing information (kinda like Jane Doe).
