Yo guys. Thanks so much for watching the video, means a lot.
So uh, this video got hit with 3 different copyright claims from three different companies before it went live (posting wrestling videos is a nightmare), so the chances of me making money on this is.. slim. So if you feel like supporting the channel, you can do so here, helps out a lot, thanks you~

Also, I am aware that a tough time financially for people, so if you cant support (for any reason), thats totally cool, still really appreciate you just checking out the video. Have a good one dudes.
(also, just cause I know people will be asking, “Why didnt you talk about X Wrestler?” because theres a zillion great wrestlers out there, and Im gonna be saving some stories for future videos.)

Japanese female heels look like they’re having more fun than anyone else on the entire planet.
They look like they have the best anime
I sure know who I'm rooting for.
If this comment had no context you might assume that it was left on a very different website from CZcams 💀
Kagetsu is/was simply the best.
One of my favourite matches was were she felt so invincible that she claimed she would defeat her opponent in under 5 minutes, and proposed a timelimit and in case of a draw she would loose her title.
At the beginning of the match she brought a kettle and cup noodles to the ring, and claimed she would be done in time for a nice hot cup of isntant ramen.
She wrestled the match very lackadaisical, constantly belittleling her opponent at first, but grew more desperate with time. While she was clearly the superior figther in the match, her oponent would kick out constantly and not giving up. Kagetsu won of course, but it too her 6 minutes 30. She got up took her Cup Noodles, ate them and stated "A bit too cold I guess... Well, you did prove me wrong, I took longer, how long was it? 6 minutes 30?... Well I guess I proposed to lose the title if I took to long... But Rossi [the owner] never gave me a contract for the stipulation, so it was never official, So I guess I keep it, don't I?" and walked away.
Kagetsu is great.
@@TainakaRicchan Aw man! That's effing great! It feels so odd to see so much fun stuff in Japanese female wrestling since it's like the most obscure of the obscure, but I really want to check it out now. It just seems so interesting.

@@e3uphoric51 dman that was a sad anime
Itachi and sasuke also comes to mind
Alucard from Hellsing.
He absolutely despised monsters like vampires and ghouls and werewolves, when he himself was the pinnacle of vampirism.
He thus hated himself.
He saw himself as a weak tusk of a man that couldn't achieve greatness in life without making a pact with the devil.
That's also the reason he respects humans like Alexandr Anderson. The man was the only equal of Alucard the king of vampires in a duel, without actually being a vampire and still retaining his humanity, and they both deeply respected each other as men and as opponents.
Hellsing was awesome.

braun only got shoved and cameback with a push then flopped (typical vince)

I can't get over the fact that the most dramatic storyline in this video is about the shocking, unexpected turn to the dark side of a man whose name is literally EVIL

In pro wrestling, booing is just another kind of cheering. Or, as they say, any reaction is better than no reaction.
Kinda like "no publicity is bad publicity " even if it makes it look like your teenage daughter is grinding on your lap based off one still photo image.
(the Trump and his daughter one from 96 I think, I'm not going to debate opinions as I don't care, just what I thought of)
Well that depends on the booing honestly. Roman Reigns was booed for a while for the wrong reasons but yes I agree that any reaction is better than no reaction. Although in Japanese wrestling the crowds react differently, they are silent for a while to respect the wrestlers and the people watching then cheer at certain times. Any wrestler who knows how to work with a crowd knows what they're doing.
thats so stupid wwe thinking
@@juliand.breakdown463 UK and continental Europe seem to play by those rules, too, as does indy circuit in general - the Kaiju Big Battel circuit for sure, and here in Ottawa 4C wrestling the most noise is always the biggest boos for the "meanest" villains. It all depends on how rowdy a given scene tends to be.
"What" and "boring" chants are some of the most toxic chants and do not benefit anybody. Booing a heel is fine and even encouraged to an extent, because they're supposed to be hated.

Fun fact: Minoru Suzuki did the mo-cap for Tekken's King during the 90's, so calling him the "King" feels like a double entendre.
He also was a champion in Pancrase whose top champ was referred to as "The King of Pancrase"
Oh baby a triple entendre.
@@ogreevans You're right, and man Suzuki's early Pancrase career is super underrated. As terrifying as he might be as a grizzled pro-wrestler today, he was equally (if not more) terrifying as a young, ripped, hyper-talented catch-wrestler looking to legitimately torture you before ripping your leg off. And even during that time, he mastered being a heel without saying a word; from that douchebag pompadour, to the way he'd smirk obnoxiously when his opponents try to counter his wrestling, to the signature black towel entrance... the man was a menace you wanted to hate and/or fear.

@@dragio23234 yep
Being a heel is liberating. When you're trying to get people to like you, there's rules you have to follow, there's certain things you can't say or do. When you're making people hate you, that all goes away, you don't have to worry about rules or conventions on how to behave. For me, that's the true brilliance of being a heel.
The most exposure to wrestling I’ve ever gotten before this was when they did a wrestling-themed episode of Ru Paul’s Drag Race and I thought the names “faces” and “heels” were something they made up for the show.
God, the Japanese guy in the beginning, he's like everything Steven Seagal wishes he could be.
Antonio Inoki is one of the most interesting figures in the history of professional wrestling and Japanese sports and entertainment more generally. Basically, people saying wrestling is fake are missing out on a great show.
Basically, yeah. Pro wrestling is, at its core, performance art, and it's evolved in a way since the days of the Attitude Era (with its shock jock humor and juvenile writing) into great theater with complex, three-dimensional characters that don't have to be all shouty and angry all the time, now able to convey a variety of emotions.
Basically, modern pro wrestling has openly embraced the performance art aspect of it and, in the case of wrestling around the world, can be viewed as a great window of getting a vibe for different cultures around the world: look at how different the wrestling is in Mexico or Australia compared to a place like Japan or the Congo; the internet has kinda allowed pro wrestling to become this really beautiful thing that can, if given a chance, bring people together in a shared sense of understanding.
I never understand it. If you can accept the storyline of a movie; you should be able to accept the entertainment of professional wrestling.
Yeah that's another thing. I never got interested into wrestling but I was always told it sucks bc it's fake. But like... movies and tv shows are fake??
And like, does it matter if it's fake? Do people actually expect wrestlers to fight like gladiators and illegal underground fight clubs?? Idk that's just weird.
Super eyepatch make me realize it's a whole world of entertainement, story lines and character arcs and it seems so interesting.

surprising that I finally watched this (phenomenal) video today of all days, since it's actually the 11th anniversary of the death of Mike Shaw, the wrestler who played Bastion Booger. my mom works at a paper company in Michigan, and actually had a friendly professional relationship with Shaw, who moved over to corporate work in his post-wrestling life. even with that second life, though, he opened and ran a wrestling school in his hometown of Skandia, Michigan, a tiny town with less than a thousand people. I didn't even know until today, looking at his Wikipedia page, that he made a cameo in WWE Raw's 15th anniversary special, had a Jakks Pacific toy made of him, and even oversaw independent circuit wrestlers and had a couple independent fights in his final years.
I was with my mom when she learned of his death, and I still remember her shock and total surprise at the news. even though I never had the chance to meet him, hearing from her the secondhand grief and love from those who knew and worked with him painted a picture of a kind, funny, hardworking man who had only love for his family, friends, and coworkers. seeing the clips used here, where he was able to so effectively, confidently make himself into a "disgusting" man for his matches, is funny and moving at the same time; for such a bizarre footnote in wrestling history, earning a section in a list of the "worst" heels from someone who clearly knows their wrestling history still feels like an appropriate cementation of his legacy and impact in its own way. in such a wild, bizarre industry filled with oddballs who don't even earn mentions for their fights a year later, let alone almost 30, this feels like an inclusion he would be honored by.

Kagetsu is actually really fun to watch based off of what environment she’s in. If it had a guardrail, her rival would be thrown off it and jumped on from the stairs. If there were wide bleachers, they’d be thrown between them. Fans reaching out to her would be cast aside and walked over just so she could get in a stab at whoever was next on her hit list. Best kinda chaos. 😌

Even though he's in America, I feel like he'd cross the globe if I said some shit about him under my breatg
I remember when he said he would kill Logan paul in a wrestling match
He's actually pretty chill when he's not in-character. Very calm and good sense of humor. I don't think he hates white people either. He just understands how to use race to get heat. Funny how I never watched any wrestling, but I am a massive Yakuza fan and so seeing Naito and Ogata was interestingly familiar. For those who don't know, Naito, Ogata and many other Japanese pro wrestlers make cameo appearances in Yakuza 6 as a gang of vigilantes called JUSTIS and they serve as antagonists you eventually turn to your side as Kiryu, the protagonist, takes JUSTIS down one member at a time in massive gang fights. They even use their catchphrases and signature moves.

Really happy to see this video back up. I saw this for the first time in early 2022 when I was just getting super into wrestling, and you introduced me to Stardom and Joshi, and where I’m at now, I don’t know what I’d be without Joshi. It’s almost all I watch anymore. I wouldn’t have Mayu Iwatani or AZM or Giulia had I not seen this video. And now Mayu is less than two weeks away from a match with the reason I started watching wrestling at all, Mercedes Moné. Seeing this video again isn’t just cool because it’s a terrific video, although it is, it’s cool because it’s kind of part of a full circle moment for me. Would be thrilled to see another wrestling upload from you soon, but I’ll watch no matter the topic anyway. Keep up the awesome work.
EDIT: This is the first time I’ve seen footage Hana Kimura turn up in wrestling circles other than people memorializing her, so that’s cool. I’ve only ever watched her matches posthumously, so seeing her wrestle and seeing Kagetsu/Yu Ishino mention her by name and it’s treated as part of a larger story, a whole, got to me. For a moment it felt like Hana was still with us. So thank you for that
So the take away for me is, "Start watching Japanese Wrestling."

Plot twist: MJF isn't playing a character.
I'm starting to believe that lmao
MJF's character lines up so specifically with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) that I'm convinced he's intentionally acting that way. Like, he did the research into psychology diagnostics and molded this into his character. However, the biggest thing that sets him apart is that he's going above and beyond keeping himself in character seemingly at all times.
NPD Signs directly taken from the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual
* Grandiose sense of self-importance
* Preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
* Belief that one is special and can only be understood by or associate with special people or institutions
* A need for excessive admiration
* A sense of entitlement (to special treatment)
* Exploitation of others
* A lack of empathy
* Envy of others or the belief that one is the object of envy
* Arrogant, haughty behavior or attitudes
MJF used to be in a relationship with Allie Kat, and when he broke up with her, after she moved across the country, he left her homeless. This isn't a work. He's an IRL piece of shit.
@Cooldrew100 I’m by no means immersed in the world of wrestling gossip but a cursory Google of that story brought up a Twitter screencap where both of them say what amounts to “that’s not true lol”

Not WWE.it hasn't been good in decades.
It's always been a bit more like a video game or a LARP to me, as the characters distinctly have stats and abilities that straight up make some just stronger than the others. For example, Santino Marella shouldn't have beaten Sheamus that one time, but hit an absurdly lucky critical success on something, or how Kofi Kingston seemed to always beat Randi Orton (or Edge always beat Kurt Angle) because one of them just happened to be tuned to a bunch of very specific weaknesses in the other, despite being consistently lower on the card at the time.
Man didn't know how many weebs are here on this comment section.

"Accidents happen baby." - New Jack
That's kinda the thing with pro wrestling; he's got plausible deniability on his side. All he'd have to do is turn around say "It's all part of the show, baby."
Of course, he has been kinda punished in other ways, like the fact he seemingly can't get work in pro wrestling anymore because he's burned too many bridges and has done too much psycho shit which, in this day and age, is not acceptable, even in the deathmatch wrestling circuit.

bro just came to watch some wrestling and got humliated on television lmao
I've always loved heels myself. Not the same way that too many of the smarks who take everything too seriously do, but in the way that I boo the bad guys as a sign of respect. I'm mostly a WWE guy, but every time I see someone recapping the stories from Japan, I always wish the langauge barrier and time difference didn't hurt so much (I'm east coast US). Those stories seem so raw and powerful, but they're also so much more subtle than American pro wrestling stories. Maybe I'm just missing it since I can't read that deep into it due to the aforementioned langauge issues.
At any rate, thank you for so much depth and passion in this video and videos like it. It's refreshing to find wrestling videos where someone isn't just either blindly loving a company or blindly hating a company. There's art to this and it gets lost in the shuffle of the social media these days.
You ever think you could do a follow up discussing babyfaces? Universally beloved babyfaces are arguably harder than being a heel
Idk man...unless if ur talking about how faces r treated in WWE I don't think it's like that elsewhere...if u have talent then it's ez for them to cheer u thus turning face...I'd argue that being a true heel is way harder to pull off

This is genuinely one of the greatest and most informative documentaries on wrestling I’ve seen. Keep coming back to it.
I was so happily surprised to see Yu Ishino/Kagetsu! He was what got me into modern joshi and Stardom, hilariously, because the only wrestling I had been interested in before was 80s-90s joshi, but his very non-idol like appearance made me give more current joshi a chance.
He was kind of a big loveable doof, as all of Oedo Tai are, but he could put on some of the best, most intense matches, had amazing rival dynamic with Tam and Mayu, brought out some of the best matches in others, and could deliver surprisingly thoughtful promos outta nowhere when he felt like it.
This big clown who loved Doraemon, carried around a cardboard belt and a music playing toy truck to the ring, was constantly trying to kidnap AZM, but was never to be underestimated or you would be reminded quickly what a threat he could really be. He was just a lot of fun, phenomenal talent and will always be one of my very favorites.
