What's the craziest sample you used and the result totally surprised you? Mine was my son's baby monitors...
Nerdy by Poison the Well tuned down like 7 semitones
Mine was a Bottle that falling on the ground. (And get destroyed of curse).
@@marioschammer9773 Perfect for crashes :)
I use my shauhachi to record. Sounds great if it doesn't crash VCV.
My dad accidentally butt-recorded a tiny snippet of a song (like less than a second) that I pitch-shifted and turned into a pretty sick bass loop (imo) :)
Another nice trick
1) import a nice 4 on the floor or similar beat
2) trim the PEAK to get on the correct HOT spots
3) connect the peak trig to AR envelope and to a Sequencer
4) drive a bass and filter it and dynamic with PEAK CV out
and you have a walking bass all along the sample
I have quite a busy day ahead of me - annoying, because Omri has yet again completely inspired me to get really deep into yet another module. Surely this is one of the best modules in VCV? Amazing.
It's an amazing module indeed!
Thanks Omri! I have been waiting for this one... finally (I think) I understand Simpliciter!
Hey, that's great! It's such a powerful module I could do a 5 hours video about it and only scratch the surface so experimentation is needed :) Cheers!
I was looking forward to this video tutorial, so many possibilities. Thank you again, Omri.
Cheers!
Great video Omri really demystified this module, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
There are so many good tricks and ideas in this one ! Thanks Omri
Thanks!
Grazie mille for the SHOW!
my preferred way to use simpliciter is using the internal modulation with a SQUARE wave, and playing with speed around 0.0 or something 0.05
and playing with UNI mode and inverted mode
Woooow so nice Omri, thanks for this one!!!
Glad you like it!
One of the best tutorials I ever had.
Thank you!
Superb overview.wicked....the features are W🤯W ...the stuff your doing with cv out, modulation...and the add on ...so good 😩
Thanks so much!
Thanks Omri ! great Tutorial as always !
Glad you liked it!
An amazing module Omri, thanks!
Cheers!
A very useful video for me. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
OK. Looking for years now for granular sampler who samples on the fly in sync and didn´t click with MI, Bastl and so on. Now I see this and made one for myself in half an hour around the Simpliciter. Cheeeeesus, thank you man!
Have fun!
OMG! Great tutorial. Nice plug-in
Glad it was helpful!
My brain explodes during every one of your videos with the sonic possibilities 🤯
I was wanting to learn how to do real-time recording, slicing and mangling. Yay glitch!
I'm happy I can help :)
excellent mate. thanks for inspring us
Cheers!
in version 1.0.17
I have debugged the envFollower (now no more BIZARRE oscillation at the start) (with smoothing is perfect)
and added a RAMP representing the position of the playhead
both outputs can be used to have important effects applied in sync with samples
excellent, as always! Thanks!
Cheers!
Thats my world! Thank you!
Cheers!
27:03 effect with piano and wow reminds me of Nils Frahm : Says: piano piece..... I love it.
actually the sickest VCV module ive ever seen...
impress me too! a LOT!
Perfect bro thanks
Cheers!
Great module OMG
Love this module. Almost like a mini Octatrack in VCV. Sample mayhem, arm (trig) record,... Sweet
It's a beauty!
Man....thank you !!
Cheers!
Amazing, Thanks!
Cheers!
yeah now we talking!! this is my fave module, holy shit vcv is really fucking powerful
Have fun!
Helpful, thanks!
Cheers!
This is amazing because I sure don't have the money for a morphagene! I love you dude!
Have fun!
Thank you ❤
Cheers!
very cool. Thank You
Glad you liked it!
great tutorial.. thanks
Cheers!
@@OmriCohen-Music Skol :-)
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Omri this was great, my favorite has been wine glasses and singing bowls, but I use the iPad version through MiRack. I like to record with Samplr then save to the Files app and bring in from there. Using the mixer is nice to split signals and record the out into another Simpliciter then out again to the mixer, tons of possibilities, thanks again...
Cheers! I also experimented with wine glasses once. Filled a couple with water and tuned them to different intervals, it was fun :)
The iPad needs a 'Files' app?!
I view This Tutorial for 2nd time an Yes Simpliciter is a great sampler player and amazing. I use it with my flute (shaku hachi) samples... much fun... and want to use this for future ambient track. Thanks...
Yeah, I love this module as well. Cheers!
👏
Thanks Omri - great tutorial; I really enjoy and am learning a lot from your lessons. I'd first watched this over a year ago, and when I tried to get the Click Out sound from the expander module, it wasn't working for me. I figured it was a bug that would get fixed eventually. I just watched the tutorial again today with a recently updated version of VCV Rack 2, and it still isn't working for me today. I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious, or perhaps this functionality went away?? You were so excited by this functionality in the video; I wanted to share your joy. :)
Hey, thanks! Yeah, unfortunately, the developer has taken some time off from developing for VCV, so it was not fixed still...
Oh well - thanks Omri! Still a pretty fun module.
Thanks for your work! Using your videos as a reference for miRack on iPad. Very, very useful!
One thing for Simplicite I'd like to clarify though.
How do you quantize recording to the BPM with record trigger input?
Thanks! Well, you can use S&H, for example, and use the clock as the trigger and a gate as the input so only with the clock there will be a change in voltage.
@@OmriCohen-Music thank you!
Fantastic as always, Omri.
I was a little confused during the CV output section to see the CV go to zero (like at 22:26) even though the sample was playing - there was amplitude! Have I missed something there?
Thanks!
Hey, thanks! And yes, that seems like a bug...
Wow. Never really looked into this module. You could create like the world's most flexible 4 track recorder with these, building up loops and sound on sound on three seperate channels and then bouncing them to the fourth or something.
The possibilities with this module are endless...
hey Omri , thank for the tutorial, it comming in the perfecto moment to me, I m looking for a sample to shot textures
in the minute 3:48 should you connect the gate to the gate cv instead of the start?
Thanks! Well, no, the Gate CV will activate and deactivate this mode, but the gate itself should go to the start input.
@@OmriCohen-Music yes! thanks!!
btw I love what you do with the percussive vibration, is brilliant
Thanks :)
Great video, once again Omri! Anyone know how I might be able to save the sample from the Right Click Menu? I know the option is there but I can't access it on my laptop as it drops below the bottom of my screen.
Oh, scrolling doesn't help? Maybe use a different resolution?
@@OmriCohen-Music No scrolling doesn't help. I got around it by entering fullscreen mode, but now can't exit fullscreen. :D
I tried using the CV output the way you show in the video, and I found out that it's now something called "Ramp", and it works completely differently! Ah, well, VERY cool tool and another brilliant video, Omri! I'll see if I can figure out another way to use my voice to shape an envelope...
Yeah, the Ramp is a new output but it's not replacing the CV out. The CV out is now the red output below the Peak output.
@@OmriCohen-Music Well, slap my face and color me stupid, there it is! I'll have to start using my eyes when I try to do this stuff...Thanks a heap!
@@borlip no worries
Hey Omri, I've been trying (and failing) to use the Simpliciter to recreate the glitchy repetitions found in Neat Beats - Graffiti on a Monday Night
czcams.com/video/BmCd3kVagZs/video.html
From 4:05 onwards.
I tried loading the full sample and going with specific slices and also on-the-spot recording of a second sampler with short (50-150ms) gates. But mostly I'm getting lots of clicking noises, even with the anti-click cranked all the way up, and little usable effect.
Do you have any idea how one could reproduce this?
Yeah, that's a tough one... I would say make the splices in a DAW and load them in the Musical Box, for example, and sequence them.
@@OmriCohen-Music Sequencing seperate splices in Musical Box sounds like a good idea thanks. I'll set it to gated mode and prepare the splices in advance with Simpliciter. Maybe the Espen trick option will also work in that use case.
This is the trigger setup I used for getting splices from an active sample by the way, in case you want to try it: abload.de/img/simpliciterzojz7.png
Top delay sets the length of the splice, bottom delay sets the length it's being looped before resuming the main sample.
@@TheIRAmike Oh wow, this looks great! Nice idea man!
@20:12 what do you mean when you said it'll act like an osc sync? what is an oscillator syn?
Well, oscillator sync means that one oscillator will be synced, will be locked to the frequency of another oscillator. In this case, you can sync the internal LFO to the frequency of an external one.
Do you have to keep the sample in one location on your PC after you add it to the project? Thanks again!
Well, yes, if you want it to load with the patch the next time you open it.
Hey Omri, do you know if the Simpler Tape Ctrl / Expander is also available for the iPad's Simpliciter in miRack? Cheers
Hi! I'm not so sure, sorry...
@@OmriCohen-Music thanks for your reply Omri!
Hi guys, Hi Omri! When I connect the "Click" out to my outs or mixer or anything nothing happens, regardless of which buttons I press on the expander. Do I have to toggle that on or something?
Hi! Yeah, it looks like it's broken... I also can't make it work.
@@OmriCohen-Music I see, well at least it's not that I am just too stupid, lol. Thanks for checking it!
great video omri! can i ask why aren't ctrl+left click or alt+left mouse working for me?
Cheers! There might have been an update that changed things. This video was with VCV 1...
@@OmriCohen-Music thanks omri! Simpliciter remains One of the best modules ever
@@giordanorosadoni5440 oh yes, indeed. Did you get the chance to check out Sussudio?
@@OmriCohen-Music not yet! I think i should, true?
@@giordanorosadoni5440 yes, totally. You cannot sample with it but combined with Simpliciter, you can really explore sounds.
Hello, how can I synch the record function with the daw? I tryied "strat from the midi to cv modul" but it don't "stop" - I remember some tricks with flip flop but can't achieve it at this moment…
Hi! Yeah, I showed it once but I don't remember in which video... Basically, you can use the Trigger Buffer from ML. One input will be the clock from the DAW, and the other your trigger.
"How to Live Loop in VCV Rack" second part. I tryied to synch with the punch in/out of cubase…I'm asking too much@@OmriCohen-Music
Omri, do you know if it's possible to quantize the record trigs with a host's clock so we can punch in and out recordings in time with the tempo / bpm and have the simpliciter to record to the clock??? Cheers
Hi! Yes, you can use the trigger buffer from ML. Use the clock for the input, and the trigger to arm it. This will quantize the triggers to the clock :)
@@OmriCohen-Music thanks! hope to figuring it out :) this will open so many options for music live performance! 👍
@@pangea2003 no worries 🙂 let me know if you need any help with that.
@@OmriCohen-Music it worked as a charm Omri! Many thanks ;)
the "cv output" is now a "ramp" ? is it a recent update?
No no, the ramp is an added output, the cv out is still there. It's the Peak output.
is there anyway to play the slices you cut out in the order you want them? like say you make 5slices nd you want to play slice 2,4,3,5 in that order, can you do that?
Yes, totally. You can use a sequencer to sequence the slices so each step is a different slice. Something like the ADDR from BogAudio can work great.
@@OmriCohen-Music isnt that what you did with the eoc to random? i was talking about ordering the slices to play in the exact order i want them to play
@@afrosymphony8207 yeah, you can set a sequencer to do this for you. For example, step 1 will be slice 4, step 2 slice 3, step 3 slice 1, and so on. As I said, the ADDR is great for that.
@@OmriCohen-Music please do some kind of tutorial using this cause i have no idea how to do it lool sorry
Is anyone aware of a manual or any documentation on Simpliciter? Could not see anything on the github.
There are no manuals for most of the nysthi modules...
Nobody noticed that, around 9:30, the sample is played backward, and when Omri activate "Do Espen stor...", the sample is read forward, when varispeed knob is set to backward? :p (little bug?) (Then if you move the varispeed knob, it's fixed, I tested)
Anyway, a free Morphagene, it's amazingly cool :)
Thanks a lot Omri, you're doing a kind of documentation/manuel (which doesn't exist ^^).
There are no bugs in the nysthi collection, only unintended features ;) Cheers!
Thanks for this. The Morphagene would have nagged me to go modular for ever; now I don’t have to!
Edit: the miRack version does not appear to have the ability to import samples directly via the ‘double-tap’ menu. There is a workaround of sorts- load the Nsythi Quadsimpler, to which you CAN import files, and record from there- but it’s clumsy. Am I missing something obvious?
i have to be honest, I never tried miRack so I'm not so sure how much I can help with that...
@@OmriCohen-Music That is interesting, you are not curious about miRack or you don't have an iPad? See above: "record with Samplr then save to the Files app and bring in from there."
@@erwincoumans Yeah, I don't own any iOS devices...
are you sure ?
did you press on the white area to get the correct menu for import ?
I'm 100% sure I tested it, I would have never released a module without import that is the MAIN character of this module !
@@AntonioTuzzi Ah- I’m an idiot. I had been tapping on the sample area only, as you do in (say) Quadsimpler. In my defence, tapping outside the sample area is a little counter-intuitive... Thank you!
Vcv is crashing when I am recording Simpliciter. Just after I hit the rec,.. after recording. Someone has a solution?
I would say file an issue on Gitub, it's probably the best thing to do.
@@OmriCohen-Music Not clicking to fast works.... Nysthi Simpliciter needs time to react...!
True this works... thanks
The samples on this thing click so loud wtf
I don't think thats a poor man's morphagene, its much cooler and also easier to operate. Damn it can record and mangle CV, i just wonder why i spent thousands on complex LFO modules.
