Dismantling My Rusty VW Bus To Its Frame (Inner Wheel Well Restoration)

  • I went digging for rust and never really came back from what is the most complex lego set ever, not really ready for how difficult car restoration is.
    Still piecing together the front end. The inner wheel well is a thicker gauge support that extends from the bottom of the frame to the top of the seat bench. I extended the bottom leg much more than the factory part just to help support the frame better.
    I didn't narrate this video, just the satisfying somewhat jarring sounds of restoration.

    Phenomenal job Brandon! I spent my life as a musician. I should have restored old buses! I’m a disabled old man now but I would love one of your restorations to get me and my wheelchair around

    Having an Eckold to be able to do these bends in the sheetmetal is an absolute must. Fantastic job in showing how to get an old bus back up to life. Keep it up, we will be watching. Greetings from 🇳🇱

    I admire the way you take extra care to achieve the best results possible rather than settling for "that's good enough". Many thanks and good wishes.

    Awesome creativity when making those parts. I would have never thought to use wood to chip out that mold . It looked factory fresh. Keep up the outstanding work

    I'm watching you! Seriously, I appreciate the extent you're taking this restoration. The end result should last decades, and will be something your kids and their kids will admire.

    Jeez, it is no wonder these old buses did not survive crashes, they are just tin cans! Of course, the Vanagon could take a pretty hard nose hit with those i-beams underfoot.

    • @BrandonsBus
      @BrandonsBus  Před rokem

      Definitely little crash support on the T1's. I'm thinking of adding my own braces for strength.

      @@BrandonsBus After two loaf buses I ended my VW past with an '86 Vanagon Transporter Syncro (sold - 2004). Impressive work and documentation, Brandon. Good to see someone taking the work to task. I paid tons and tons to keep mine going as I was 'just the driver.' Why do VW's need so much maintenance?

    Why drilling holes on the side when there is a nice hole cutter for it. Quicker and no drilling required.

      I have a pneumatic hole punch but it’s a little dull and wouldn’t cut through the 16g
