- Pete Waterman’s World Record beating Train Set!
This is the behind the scenes video detailing the pain we went through (yes pain) as we attempted to instrument and document this layout to the standard required for Guinness World Records.
At 694.9 meters measured track length this layout obtained the Guinness World Record for “Largest Portable Model Railway”.
In this video you’ll see what went on to obtain the certification, what is required of us, how the scrutineering took place and how we provided evidence of our efforts.
The certification team included: Chris Clenton, Daniel Rotherham and David Fenton.
The layout was built by the Railnuts team and comprises separate stand-alone layouts that are designed to join together into one mega sized installation over 210 feet in length.

So pleased for all the team who made this happen. Pete has such a passion for this hobby and has brought together some great people to give something to everyone to enjoy. Great ambassadors for the hobby, if only some model railway ‘big noises’ on CZcams could manage even 1% of that positivity.
Thank you to all the railnuts for a great weekend.
Congratulations to all involved in this fantastic achievement. 👍
I would love to have been able to see it in person, but unfortunately, health gets in the way.
What a fantastic layout and deserved record. Thank you for all the videos for those who cannot get to see it in person.
Great day on saturday good job to all of you for getting the record should of had network rail hst pulling the clicker

after all that set up, testing and re-testing, then the final adjudication you must have all been exhausted ... I hope you all had a good rest afterwards
What an Effort by the Team Congratulations
Dave you have done an incredible job not only on this video, but in documenting all the runs and the weekend. Thank you for your tireless work - you should be very proud of the achievement.

It goes without saying I ( along with many others ) we had NO DOUBTS you Pete and the RailNuts would be the first of what will be a VERY LONG, long record !!!!!!
I do have a question though, do you ALL get a Guinness plaque or just one ????
All good and well done just a pity the layout wasn't working well on the Saturday
Bravo
Thank you for responding. However, I was not referring to the TRACKS. I was referring to the RAILS (a track being comprised of TWO RAILS).
Please reconsider my comment.
Thank you.
All very interesting, and thank you for making your video available via CZcams.
My wife, who is not an engineer, has asked a very interesting question: how did you account for one rail of the circuit being longer than the other (due to the curves at each end)? Thank you in advance.
They measured each track.
Now do another one in O gauge.. Well done.
649.9m wow .................. what's that in scale miles? 694900mm/4 = 173725ft/5280 = 33miles, I think I'm doing something wrong😞
Rod's is superior
