As a Greek i m so disappointed that the tourist usually only visit the islands. Greece is like 75 % mountainous and there is soo much more to see than just Santorini and Mykonos.
I'm going back to Greece for the second time this year, still not the islands, that'll be for another year. Exploring the Peloponnese this time :)
@@Forlfir Thats really nice, the peloponnese is really amazing
Same
I’ll keep that in mind when I come!
@@Forlfir The next time explore Thrace
As someone already said it. A lot of Greece is overlooked. I can tell because I have done too much research on this country simply because I fell in love with this country years ago. Greece has 6000 breathtaking islands each unique, 16.000 km of the most crystal clear seas, but also Greece's mainland is incredibly gorgeous.Greece consists of 80% mountains, providing breathtaking views everywhere. Every region or island has it's own incredible history, beauties, traditions, cuisine, and so on. To the highest biodiversity in Europe due to it's geography of 80% mountains and countless islands that isolates nature to grow unique and hence the highest endemic species in Europe. Then Greece is one of the most hot-spring rich countries on the planet with 800 natural hot-springs to name some of the many hidden gems of the country.
The combination of snow-capped mountains to the only natural palm forests in Europe. From virgin forested lands and islands to rugged beauty, geological paradises, and even a small desert on one island. And from lush fields and valley's in between the mountains all the way to volcano's, seas and mountain lakes. Endless archaeological sites and history and culture is what makes Greece unique. Not only do very few countries on the planet have a combination of this, but what makes it even more rare is that in Greece you can find everything everywhere without having to travel 1000 km to find a bit of sea, or 2000 km to find a bit of mountains. In Greece you can do all of it in a single day.
Greece Fact....the biggest distance you can have from sea in Greece is 90km...that means you don't actually need more than 1 hour (with car) to reach the sea no matter where in Greece you are
@@skasere1 That is almost correct. It's not 90 kilometers but 90 miles. 90 miles = 144 km.
I have done a research just now, with google earth and for instance. From the Prespa lake in North Greece to the absolute closest sea there is 143 kilometers away. (North west corner to the sea down right): earth.google.com/web/@40.53505705,22.09857629,809.65008905a,155324.02720325d,35y,0h,0t,0r
@@Ptolemy336VV Yes you are right....i probly confused cause i remember that number from a video with facts...Im Greek and you know my country better than I :P
@@skasere1 No worries bro! :P Im a weird case. I have spend way too many years out of love for your country, into your country. From history, to landscapes, to everything! It's to me the best country on the planet for 1001 reasons.
I also started my Greece channel. If you like take a look! I have 2 video's. czcams.com/channels/WKdJu9-wCRBYT8MdD64Klw.html

Wow no wonder Linkin Park used Meteora as one of their album titles ...... Greece is incredible.
Linkin Park were inspired by this place and called one of their music album "Meteora". Great work by the way
My favourite album from LP
I'm here because I was [and still am] on a LP youtube binge
Also Meteora is inspiration for Eyrie in Game of Thrones.
Linkin Park didn't visit here before naming the album, I'm not sure if they did visit after releasing the album. Mike and Brad said they were on the Hybrid Theory tour and that they were working on lyrics for some songs for their second album on their tour bus. They had no plan for the album title. There was a travel magazine on the bus where they saw the photos of this amazing place called Meteora, they loved the name of the place instantly and decided to name their second album after that place.
"Linkin Park were visited and inspired by this place...". So wait, this place physically jumped ship and travelled all the way to wherever Linkin Park were at the time, just to meet them? This place must be quite the fan.
1:58 "everything is in greek" and a sign in greek and english is just over him lol

Greece is beautiful
I was there this April 28-30. Kastoria-Thessaloniki-Meteora-Ioanina. Perfection!!!

But most in corfu.i lve in corfu and they wont fix the trafic lights and trash.TRAsh.EvErYWeERe
Greeks are used to seeing beauty so they won't wonder around waiting for sunsets. They've seen enough.
I am a greek and always want more sunsets.
You can never get enough sunsets
That's wrong I live in mykonos Greece and we always chilling at spots with great views and enjoying the beautiful sunsets
well...as a Greek i can definatelly tell you, that noone can ever get bored of sunset. They can recharge you from a long difficult day at a glance of an eye.
Sunsets are never enough 😊
wow! greece probably my next destination.
CyJeren I was thinking the same thing after seeing this!
Go to corfu.the best island
believe me.
You should visit ancient Olympia for sure...
Just know that meteora aren't as beautiful as they look here.. better visit an island
@@jim6213 thank you for the tips, never been to greece, worth a try for a week and also heard a lot of croatia.
So epic man!
Thanks bob, stoked for our next adventure !
We have been to Meteora last year and yes, this place is magical. If you go for the sunset you will see some groups of people. Actually, sunset tours are popular in Meteora. Did you try the local food? the local dishes were so tasty.
I've been here! easy my favorite place in the world
Amelia Bathke totally agree with you 🤘👍
I live there.
xReck 53 oh hi malaka
These shots were next level thanks to that Chris mk V 🙌🏼😂 the most unbelievable place in the world I’ve ever been to and if you haven’t heard it enough... it’s THE BIG ONE
This trip is going to be tough to top!
Nice shots of Meteora! The "James Bond - For your eyes only" has some scenes in this place.
As a Greek, thank you very much for the respect to our country, our history ,our civilization. Greece is a real treasure on earth, now you can understand the reason!!!
Greece, Austria, Scotland, Italy, Japan best places on earth to go
Switzerland was the best paradise on earth
@@gilbertarana89 if Switzerland was not so expensive and in the EU, yes. But Austria is a better option as for now.
@@gilbertarana89 well it has no sea, so even if it has beutifull sceneries, divercity is not the same as Greece's and Italy's on my point of view
I’m from Greece. From my experience I would say the most beautiful counties to go to are Greece, Switzerland, Finland, Japan, South Korea, United States and Canada.
@@gilbertarana89 we can count austria as eastern switzerland
So many people just think of Santorini, Mykonos, and all of the other popular Greek Islands. It's incredible to see that there's so much more to see! Great video! 😁
Agreed. I was like Ben a nd had no clue this place was in Greece. Saw it on my FireTV screensaver and research led me to this video. Definitely an other-worldly place and experience, I’m sure!
I am so impressed by your destination! Greece is not just Mykonos and Santorini, it is so, soooo much more❤🇬🇷 Greetings from Greece and thank you for loving this country❤ respect.
I am Greek too, and when i visited Meteora, it was something i have never seen before. Their view is breathtaking, and i think that there is something in this place that makes it unique. Meteora Definately have a special aura. There are so many great places to visit here except islands, which are magical on the winter season, such us Pozar, Ioannina, Kastoria etc that even Greeks haven't visit them yet.
Good work! Next time search for Vikos gorge / stone bridges / kolympithres (Epirus)
Polylimnio / Ancient Messini / Voidokilia beach (Messinia)
Preveli / Balos (Crete) Lihadonisia (Evia) Mount Athos (Macedonia)
also Elafonisi and Chrysi island in Crete.
You boys were probably too young to know this, but the 2009 James Cameron movie 'Avatar' had a planet called 'Pandora' and the landscape depicted there was inspired by Meteora, according to the set designer. 😂👋🏼
wrong, look for Angel Falls and Tepuy montains
Wasn’t the scenes actually shot in zhang jia jie, hunan, China? There are some similarities by the look tho
This place is amazing, great cinematics and narration 🌎😊
I’m Canadian and we went there this summer! So proud to not be a typical tourism who will go to santorini.
Came for Greece stayed for the quality
part Game of Thrones wanted to film there but the church would not allow it !
Let a movie with an enormous fanbase film in your place, while your main source of income is tourism and you are in deep shit? Greek church nuh bruh we are good no filming here
And why? Because then this place would only be known and visited as “that one place in game of thrones” and not what it actually is so yes it’s better they didnt film there

Meteora has been on my list for a while and can't wait to visit it! Looks amazing! Greece is such an incredible country and has so so much to see!
Us living there dont appreciate it as much as we should
As a Greek who's got relatives there, I visit that place very often, ever since I remember myself as a matter of fact, it is indeed very spectacular, I have great memories growing up in that place, nostalgia hits hard.
absolutely breathtaking!!
hi, i visit Greece last year and Meteora was one of my favourites. It's just breathtaking, we've done, with my boyfriend, a walk of 4 hours into the mountain and a few monastery and a viaferata, witch is basically a walk and climbing on the top of a rock formation. I just love it, i recommend it so much. If you don't take the typical touristic approach, it's so peaceful and grandiose. I wish that some day i can come back.
Seriously your shots and edits keep getting better and better. Best story teller on YT!
Hi Brett from Australia. Being an Australian born Greek I appreciate how you respect and really appreciate the beautiful wonders of Greece. Meteora is just sensational. You should explore the other archeological sites Greece has to offer. Happy to share them with you. Well done mate!
Im Greek and lucky that my childwood vacation was traveling through all Greece and visit many places . Even nowalmost 40yrs I love travelling with my family all over and have memorable adventures! My favorite place is Greece. Everywhere you go has something to give you!
We should thank Zeus for making us Greek and giving us the place he created for himself. One life is not enough to experience Greece as much as you'd like.
Kalabaka looks really nice. Also Meteora is spectacular! Definitely to go some day there. The incredible thing was that these guys started from the United States just to see Meteora some thousands miles away
What a visually stunning location - breathtakingly beautiful. Only ever saw it on calendars, but you lads made it a sensory and immersive experience, and now I have it on my bucket list. Think the tourist board there should be indebted to you.
It was on my bucket list for years, and this year I got the chance. Go there. It is breathtakingly beautiful.
I've been to a lot of cities in the mainland and to Kerkira, but this place is the one that takes the first spot in my heart. It's breathtaking all around, and the orthodox monasteries are just wow.. gorgeous.
You guys should have gone and visited another beautiful city nearby (around 1.5 hrs to the west) called Ioannina.
As someone who's Greek but has never been to Greece, thanks for offering a closer look and sharing appreciation. It already feels so special to me :)
You should make an effort.
If you´re into outdoor activities like rafting, canoeing, hiking and climbing, I highly recommend visiting Epirus.
That´s the mountainous North-West area of Greece, east of the island of Corfu and south of Albania.
The Zagori Villages are a great place to visit, there´s the National Park of Vikos with the Vikos Gorge.
The capital of Ioannina, located at the Pambotis lake is also a great place to visit, specially in early autumn.
You can also go for a swim to Preveza or Parga, which has some very nice beaches, visit the ancient amphitheatre and Oracle of Dodoni and even hop to a ferry and visit Corfu or Zakynthos.
Stayed in Kalembaka the day before visiting Meteora and the night of in 2022. Even after spending 2 weeks traveling in Greece that is still one my favorite places. We have even made gifts out of the beautiful pictures we had taken of these incredible structures.
many places are just georgeous to visit,i am Greek i ve been all over my country and i still havent see everything ...you need to come again!! and again and again...so many places to see!!i promise you, there is soooooooooooooo much more! you have done such a good job!
OMG!! I was there about two weeks ago! its amazing! and the history about this place :O in the city there was a great Greek Tavern called Taberna Panellinio, I saw it on your vid for about a sec. For everyone whos going to Meteora visit that place for dinner :)
Greetings from Poland!
I would recommend you to go to the Proussos Monastery near Karpenissi the monastery hangs on a cliff its very beautiful.
My favorite video of the series! I love that you researched places no one really knows about. :)
The photos are just incredibly luminous and epic. The landscape is gorgeous amidst the giant rock formation against the coming out of the rays of sun rise…. so beautiful Brett.
It’s all “BrettaKing”!!!
On my way there in September!!!
If you guys want to explore more of Greece (when things calm down...), I highly recommend Ancient Olympia. I go back every summer to visit family, so I'd be more than happy to help out. Best part, it's a stone throw away from Zakynthos Island. From there, you can literally have a one day boat tour to most of the Ionian islands: Kefalonia, Corfu, Lefkas and the home of Odysseus, Ithaca! I currently reside in the beautiful city of Zhuhai, China. Also highly recommend! It's located next to Macau and a 40min drive to Hong Kong.
PS Thanks for representing 🇬🇷 👍

Hey Brett thank you for this amazing video. This is by far your best video to date (but I'm biased cuz I'm Greek)! Those aerial shots were insane. Thank you for overlooking the tourist traps and choosing to show another area of Greece. All the best in your future endeavours - come back anytime, there's much more to see!

i'm greek and i have to say i'm more than glad you chose to go to meteora and not santorini or mykonos. greece is so beautiful and tourists have the need to only go to santorini, mykonos, paros, whatever. you have to discover that real greece. not only the islands, but the unique mountains, too. there's so much to see.
