Great video John glad you're doing okay. Nice shout out to Nicole you killed me with the “Okie-Dokie”😂
I have to say it's a lot more fun for me to watch you deal with your snow than dealing with ours, when it snows here.
The "Okie Dokie" almost made my spit my water out 😂
Country livin! I had to break out the candles and water jugs a couple times this past season. The sights of spring are right around the corner.
Life's a lot of work, isn't it? Thanks for the video.
When I set up our off grid cabin, I set it up with a water tank above the kitchen so that if our pump ever goes out, we still have gravity fed water in the cabin.
You have TWO woodsplitters! Lefty and Righty!
Fabulous snow. Very rarely does it fall so deep in the UK & most people here hate snow, but it is so pretty, pure & sledge ready that I love it. Several years ago we got an electric splitter to save my back but it is rare we lose power. I still enjoy seeing flames in the wood burner & it’s a nice heat to have. Thanks for sharing!
You are well set up for the outage. I'd love to see a video tour of your rain collection, cistern, and filtration/treatment to get the bird poop out of your drinking water. Perhaps a 12v immersion pump running on one of those power stations would be enough for drinking water during one of the brief power outages.
Been 3 weeks without power here once in West Virginia and after that I'm taking a lot of precautions to last the least a month and a half without power this year I'm going to install a propane toilet go to wood burning stove we got to finish up, and portable cook stoves.
Thanks for sharing!
Wish my oak split that easy! I finally gave in and bought a splitter this year. Stay warm!
We don't get snow in Brisbane so it was really interesting see you pushing it around. Good job
I am always amazed how active you are and the many projects you have besides the surprises of life, I noticed you have raised garden beds and other plots. I would like to hear how you plan your schedule with all that you do. Thank you taking time to include us in you busy day. May you and yours stay strong safe and healthy.
I live in the south side of the Denver metro area and we got a little over 24 inches of snow with this storm (and yes, the power went out for a few hours one day). I was glad that you brought up Nichole, the wood chopper (she's great), but I don't think she would come down from BC to help out. Okey Dokey!
Missed opportunity to temporarily turn the forging press into an impromptu log splitter!
How satisfying to see the completed snow removal job.
Then a nice hot meal.
We invested in a home generator, it's great power's the whole house we have outages a lot in the wintertime. When I got older I bought a log spliter, saves on my back. I know what your going through John be careful. Stay safe.
I agree, propane whole house generator was the hardests $14,000 I've ever spent but, after the 2nd 10hr outage in the first year, money well spent.
Good SitRep! Glad your snow was tolerable. Good camera work!
I moved south because of that white stuff, i will be perfectly fine never seeing another snow flake
Something like Ecoflow has somereally great options for backup power supplies, they even offer units that can cover your whole home, recharge on a gas generator, or solar or wind. I use one of their units in our van we live in it full-time, haven't needed to plug into a power source for 5 years.
Anyway...
Good seeing you, CZcams keeps changing the algorithm, and I miss your notifications, glad I got ya back...
God bless...
I bet you were glad to have the skidsteer. The snow can be pretty and peaceful when it is coming down unless it is a blizzard. Nice drone shot.
You bet, it would be tough without it
You had mentioned in the past that you had a welder/generator at the blacksmith shop . Could you set that up at the house to run the water pump and other things in the house?
It's been sold. But it could have been used that way if it wasn't too much trouble to move from one place to the other, especially in the snow.
Even in Canada we just started to loose all that snow.. and now got 3 storms in one week, I just want my shop warm already to forge stuff better 😅
We get an inch of snow un the uk and people think the world is coming to an end 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Overhead CVS for 3 hours and 50 cents or Rural King water for $3 I'll be laying in about 25 cases of water 24 bottles each if I live there take care be careful
It appears you folks mostly burn pine in Colorado?
John we use a 10000 watt generator with a generlink hookup....its propane run...just don't like playing with power outages anymore
Quite the snow storm! I didn't have power for 14 cumulative hours during that last storm. ugh! What are the back-up battery devices you shared in the video?
Wow, thats a lot longer than we were without power and your only a mile or so away. The little power stations are a battery with an inverter that puts out buth 12 volt and 120 volt power. They come in different sizes and several companies make them. here is a link to one of the ones I have jackery.sjv.io/OrmYkn
@@JohnSwitzer I inherited a gas generator from my brother, but I'm not strong enough to get it started with the pull started. I was thinking that one of those battery stations might be enough to get the generator started. Thanks for the link John.
You probably could hire Nicole John, but could you afford the maple syrup bill?
That stuff is pricey.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing some of what it takes to live off the land. One suggestion for a future project,...ever thought about fabricating a log splitter?
Enjoyed the video
Have a Jesus filled day everyone Greg in Michigan
Well John that Snow shore is a lot of work , But it is really a Beutifull site . 😁👍❄☃🤠
. . . I know you know this, but for those watching who aren't as familiar, if you fill the toilet tank instead of dumping right in the bowl it uses way less water. . .
it seems as if the wood you are splitting so easily is rotten inside
does anybody know a blacksmith that could build a log`-splitter? please contact john@ Black Bear Forge, thank you!
