Thank you for the time stamps
Good sh#$!
VERY good list. BTW I enjoyed No Hard Feelings a lot, Jennifer Lawrence is off the chain here. But more importantly, I appreciate how you get into the K movies. Korea is doing some awesome stuff.
An aside, didn't Pekinpah predate Bonnie and Clyde with the use of squibs? Not just the entry wounds, either, but the exit wounds too.
Another smart and insightful video. You never fail to broaden my cinema horizons.
No Hard Feelings beach scene....Chef kiss👌
The Dude abides! You are my go to channel when it comes to movies. Love it! Cheers from the UK.
The Impossible is an incredible film. Ewan was stellar (as was the rest of the cast) and some unforgettable overwhelmingly emotional moments. Well worth seeing!
Another great list to work through! Thank you Darren!
Love the Flick Connection! Thanks for keeping my movie list to the POINT!
I remember "Society of the Snow" when it was called "Alive". A film from 1993.
I was literally about to make this exact comment until I read yours. Almost word for word what I was going to say. 😅
Both excellent. I must say Society of the snow is sooo well done.
Yes! The 93 film was very well done! There was a documentary I believe called I'm Alive which can get confused for the movie. An incredible story of survival.
No...2 different movies...Society is a brand new flick out this year and its pretty good
I don't know about Alive, but Society of the Snow used some of the survivors as consultants, which is pretty cool and probably adds to its authenticity.
I love the content and your style, bro. The presentation and professionalism is excellent and crisp. Keep at it, brother.
Vince Vaughan is seriously underrated. Brawl in cell block 99 and Dragged across concrete are awesome.
Great FLICK CONNECTION Darren. The stand out films that I’ve seen are:- American Assassin, Joker, Brawl in Cell Block 99, Carter and Bonnie & Clyde. Many thanks for sharing with us. Very much appreciated 👍👍👍👍👍
Yeah, Brawl was surprisingly good
Thanks so much for having chapters, allowing viewers to select specific flicks.
I'm 65 yrs. old, and, I'm glad to see Bonnie & Clyde make your list. As you mentioned, certainly, movies have only gotten more graphic since then, but, at that time,...I definitely remember having a pretty visceral reaction to the depiction of the bodies being butchered by the gunfire. I want to leave a movie impressed, and, Bonnie & Clyde definitely left a lasting impression.
I was shaken when I saw it ! Lots of extreme violence from that time , also The Wild Bunch !! I'm 72 ! Oh yeah, I dropped Netflix after Anne Boleyn and then Cleopatra. What a trash channel. Phuck Netflix and Disney.
thank you for another great list!
i have some subtitles to read, now.
Great list Darren, thanks. I loved Cellblockand Society and will check out some of the others
The Wild Bunch from 1969 directed by the great Sam Peckinpah. Just like Bonnie and Clyde from 1967, this Western film is super graphic when it comes to violence. The violence is not only gratuitous, but very stylish especially the cuts in between the slow motion deaths. It's got a great cast veteran actors most of whom are already dead if not all of them. And for all you gamers, this film was an obvious inspiration for Red Dead Redemption.
A Sam Peckinpah film. Yes the grandmaster of slow motion violent films. Homaged by the greats of Walter Hill, & John Woo
Great picks , thanks
Clearly a lover of the 7th art.
Thanks for sharing Darren.
Thanks for the chapters!
Sweet shirt, My Guy! Great movie picks, I've seen several in this list.
Awesome video !!! You are a great reviewer !!!
I've watched many of these based on your earlier recommendations of them. Seraphim Falls was a pleasant surprise, and Brawl blew me away. Very excited to check out "Snow". I haven't heard you that excited about a recommendation in a while. Thanks
Great, great list!👍👍👍
Fine work / thanks for a great set of reviews.
Seraphim Falls is absolutely fantastic.
The impossible was awesome. I started it on accident- but kept watching due to cast. I had NO idea of the plot- i thought at first it was going to end up being divorce drama or something- but then big “event” occurs and i was like “holy shit!” I could not look away after that. Excellent.
I listened to this today while driving home from work and _immediately_ watched No Hard Feelings because of it. Fun flick! Thank you DVD 😁
I don't stream before I check in to your channel. Thanks for the consistent quality.
I saw Brawl in Cell Block 99 years ago when you first started recommending it and it blew me away. I didn't stop talking about it for a week.
Legendary list 🔥
Ha. I totally watched Seraphim Falls at your rec Darren. Netflix should thank you by making more Westerns.
Great reviews. Love your t-shirt.
Thanks for your lists of flicks because of you my brother we always have something to watch keep up the good work 👏 👍 👌 the flick "Upgrade" I enjoyed very much quite different very interesting.
Thanks for this list. You have the time stamp mislabeled for "Brawl in Cell Block 99". It's labeled "Dragged Across Concrete".
Another great breakdown video... thank you
frakking awesome information/presentation!!!!!!!!!...thanks very much!!!..\m/
Fun fact, Many years ago while playing rugby at university, a team from from Argentina was on a tour and we hosted them for a match. One of the managers was a survivor of the plane crash.
OMG the movie “Alive” (I think?) back in the day about the rugby team has always stuck with me. Cannot wait to watch your #1 pick!! My mom, my old Blockbuster buddy, said it’s really good! Awesome list as usual.
Thanks, will try: No hrd feelings" from this list!
good list. Seen almost all of these and they very pretty good
Society of the snow is excellent, I watched it a couple weeks ago and was really impressed by it. Very emotional and well made, totally recommend it if you like survival movies.
How reviews should be! Keep it coming.
*I need to know where you got your Dude t-shirt! I love it!!!*
I love how enthusiastically you explain a movie without giving away the plot or the details. Have you seen Bone Tomahawk? I have! I’ve earned a reputation for knowing good movies not just for girls, but guys. I earned this reputation from my first husband, a special operator in the military. on one particular trip, I recommended they take Quentin Tarantino’s true romance. At first they gave it a thumbs down based on the title, then they watched it. Hence, my reputation for picking good movies. And I used that credibility to get them to watch bone Tomahawk with me. Now you have to admit it’s very most of the way, correct? My sons are are adults and have served in the military. They were not happy with how long the movie was taking. And then that part started and they shut up. I still hold the title of the person who can choose the best movies for girls and guys.
True Romance is one of my favourites! It's in my list of Lifetime-Top-20 movies! I loved it years before seeing my first Tarantino movie, didn't even know he did the screenplay! I think it's a beautiful love story, with all the trimmings! LOL I love getting good recco's - even if our tastes aren't exactly on the same page!
"Backcountry" is very good. I remember being surprised at how good it was.
Thanks for suggesting BRAWL in CELL BLOCK 99. I had never heard of it. That movie is awesome!
Blonde is just incredible, amazing piece, LOVED it
It can't be a netflix movie, because Marylin Monroe isn't portrayed by a black actress.... wth netflix, wth.
Hey Darren I love your channel, leads me to all the good cinema stuff currently playing. I do not know how you do it but I really appreciate your effort. Saves me from being stuck in Netflix limbo ,clicking my life away. Also we have the same taste in film, so I know when you make a recommendations, chances are I will like it. I am not sure if I will watch the Andes plane crash movie. It maybe a little too harrowing for me. I remember in grade 7, the book it was based on became like a cult book everybody had to read or be out of the loop. I think the book was called Alive, amazing stuff. Any ways keep up the good work, see ya at the movies.
In my Introduction to Ethics class, we read Alive and wrote about it.
instant SUBSCRIBE. thanks!
So happy to hear someone even mention Bone Tomahawk! Such a great twist on the traditional western.
Absolutely. Spot on Dialogue and scene setting leading up to the grisly and original ending.
I watched brawl in cell block 99 and X on your recommendations and they were both FANTASTIC...thank you your awsome at this!!!!❤
Only one on this list I've already seen was Society of the Snow... absolutely incredible!
Society of the snow is a remake of a movie that was released in 1993 called ALIVE!
Society of the Snow is an excellent movie. Just gut wrenching what they went through. Highly recommended
Wow what a Great list so many Good movies I've seen on here I watched both X and Joker in the movie theater and have watched them many times since then I also Loved No Hard Feelings it's one of my favorite comedys of last year and a couple of movies on here I've been wanting to watch but haven't gotten around to them like the Impossible , the Killer and Reptile I'm going to try to get around to watching them ASAP thank for the list 😁👍
Hey Darren, i thought you would've seen more movies than I have. We should be about the same age and the movie 'ALIVE' was originally done about this survival story. Mind blown!!!
Wasn’t sure about society of snow. Following your #1 pick I’ll check it out. Great work as always!
Definitely agree with ya Darren on “Brawl”
This is one of your lists that I will just copy-paste to Notepad and watch them all as time permits. 👍
For me, by far the most intense one was Ghostland. This was a huge surprise for me that haunted me for multiple days after watching it.
The most intense one is definetly "Once Were Warriors", but afaik it' s not on Netflix. It's so freaking intense because it's not war film or a horror movie. Instead this is about violence inside a family with incredible actors Rena Owen and Temuera Morrison (yes, the later Boba Fett)...
Frank Marshall's take on the Rugby Team , "Alive", is very good as well.
I loved Vince Vaughn's character in "Clay Pigeons". He is busting out of that Comedy bubble he looked like he was in. Great actor.
I saw believer 2 and that drug od scene was amazing, the whole switching places part is a must watch especially for breaking bad fans.
Brawl in Cell Block 99 is absolute monster of a movie. It actually brought me back to S. Craig Zahler and made me read all his books - which are excellent by the way.
Try Desert Heat, cracks me up every time.
I saw Bonnie and Clyde in the theater when I was 10 years old. X, I was enthralled with what a good Actress Mia Goth really is. Two other good movies are The Impossible and Joker.
Love your videos! Just a comment, super frustrating that streaming services no longer mark foreign films as they are. I waste so much time trying films only to find that out.
Nice job.
I thought Reptile was very good. Kinda slow as it goes along, but Del Toro's performance is really something. If you are a fan of Benicio Del Toro, this is absolutely a must see.... He is brilliant.
Society of the Snow is probably not for everyone. I first heard of this many years ago, not long after it happened.... There is a book called "Alive" written by a survivor that is very good. There's an old movie they did, a lot like this one in a way.... Basically a story of what happened.... So this is a "re-telling" if you will, but it is very well done, and very well shot. I wasn't wild about the dub, to be honest.... It feels like a foreign film instantly. And I'm not sure if some of it gets "lost in translation" or whatever, but the whole first half of the movie is kinda flat, and it's impossible to tell, is this one of the main guys, is this an important moment.... Maybe that was me, knowing the story, and feeling like "is that him?" and "Is that the other guy?" at various times.... At times early on, I kinda wondered, if you didn't know the story, and you just sat down to watch this, would a lot of it be making sense??? I have no way of knowing....
But it eventually does become clear, so, stay with this one... I do not know how you could not be inspired by this.... If this didn't really happen, no one would believe it.... I've often said, anyone who is in any way part of a search & rescue team NEEDS to see this movie, and read this book... I'm sure people are like "I don't wanna sit through that, ugh, it's depressing..." It is emotional, no doubt, but in the end, it is uplifting, and inspirational. Also, I daresay, you will have a newfound deep profound appreciation for the comfort we live in....
The Dude Abides! Love the Shirt!
seen a lot of these already but thanks for the heads up on Cell Block 99
👍
Seraphim Falls was solid. Good western. Angelica Huston's character definitely took it out of "classic Western" territory. It was fine, but if I was writing it, I wouldn't have included her bit.
There is no CZcams algorithm, only Zuul.
I have a couple of flicks to add to my list, thanks man! Also, “I love the shit out of this movie!” Is something I have said about my favorites to my friends and family and totally made some converts out of them in the past
THANKS
You know it
lol the time stamp for Brawl in Cellblock 99 is "Dragged Across Concrete". I get those confused too.
No Hard Feelings reminded me of Failure To Launch. It even has the fake dinner, "You don't have to pretend anymore" scene.
"American Assassin" was good, "No Hard Feelings" was hilarious! "Joker" I'm still torn on, sometimes I want to watch it, and other times it seems super pretentious. Haven't gotten to "Reptile" or "The Killer" yet, but they're on our list!
Joker is brilliant, because the topic is about a person that needs drugs to stay sane.
But because of budget cuts the drugs are tapered off.
And as he goes insane, he drags you down with him.
There is one scene where you realize one key element is all in his mind.
@@nosuchthing8 Yeah, I've seen "Joker." I should have clarified that sometimes I'd like to re-watch it, other times it seems a bit pretentious when I remember it.
@@bigsarge2085 ah, I see. Yeah, I'm not crazy about seeing it again.
X has possibly got the best ever shotgun scene.
Tom Holland in "The Impossible" gave a great performance.
Naomi Watts also.
Everybody was great but, those two really brought it.
Great list. I’d like to see one with best Netflix series. My vote goes to Warrior.
Glad u mentioned Back Country, that had hands down the most graphic bear attack scene for sure! lol
Thanks for the interesting movie suggestions. Regarding diet/nutrition, I'd suggest you look into Dr. Ben Bikman of BYU or Dr. Anthony Chaffee.
Society In The Snow was almost beautiful in its horror. Definitely worth watching. X is also great! I’ve watched it twice and I’m adding it to my classic horror inventory. It is visually stunning! It’s also fresh and nostalgic at the same time! 👍🏼👍🏼
Excellent work in providing this video. Which was your favorite or do you have an update for your favority. We watch Netflix.
Wish we had got more Mitch Rap movies. American Assassin is pretty solid.
I liked American Assassin and Seraphim Falls. Watched them more than once. Vince Vaughn was great in Brawl! Reptile was ok, and I liked trying to figure out the Killer story. A nice line up that I can relate to.
I loved Killer, seen it a lot of times! Society of the snow was great, what I really loved how it was so real and knowing the story and seeing Alive many times, this one showed after they were found too, they still faced horror because of press, the nurses and society felt about how they survived and what they looked like, so emaciated and ghost liked. I liked Reptile, just went on about 30 minutes too long for me. I will be watching your other suggestions, thanks!
Thanks for another great list. Second time you have talked about “society of the snow” without mentioning it’s a remake. Have you never seen “Alive”?
I thought he would've mentioned alive too. I remember I used to watch it as a kid with my dad, good times.
@@stirling84remember how controversial it was when it came out? Different times.
When DV spoke of The Impossible as the greatest survival film, I thought of Alive. That film stayed with me for a long time. Always good for a rewatch.
Not really a remake, but they are both about the same subject. He should have mentioned it though.
@@jenewok so what's different? I don't see many alternate approaches to such an isolated incident with no new facts to present.
American Assassin one of my favorite movies. Would have loved a sequel.
Great list. Now if Netflix could stop with the strobe like effect on their ads I'd be very pleased
Soceity Of The Snow was excellent. Good watch.
The last gunfight in John Wayne's final movie the Shootist was pretty graphic and intense.
I love The Big Lebowski shirt you're wearing 😊
Society of the Snow, and Blonde are excellent movies. I would watch it again.
I believe Society in the snow is a reimagining of the movie Alive a few years back. It is an amazing story
not really a reimagining if it's based off an actual story/event - it's just 'another telling'. This also did a much better job than Alive, which I watched a few months ago. Alive was fine but this was much better.
We need a Vince Vaughan 'Best Of' video please!
#1 pick is spot on…amazing film
For adults, impossible is not that graphic. Just very amazing.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the movie Alive at the end when you were talking about that football team. That’s the original OG from that story. Ethan Hawke. Great movie.
"SEREPHIM FALLS" WAS VERY GOOD👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Solid films as usual, especially "Brawl in Cell block 99", S. Craig Sahler. A great, talented & visceral director who I think isn't appreciated enough yet. Also loved " The Killer"...you just can't miss Fincher.👍
Did you change the thumbnail on this upload? I swear it had a different pic a couple of days ago.
