  • Ever since their introduction in the 2002 Booster set “Expedition”, Supporter cards have played a key role throughout the history of the Pokémon TCG. Whether it might be drawing cards, powering up your Pokémon, or disrupting your opponent, they’re a key part of any deck’s strategy.
    In this video we will take a look at the 10 best Supporter cards and how they impacted the given time that they were introduced in.

      A common feature on most “Ken Sugimori” (and also “Yusuke Ohmura”) cards, particularly post-e-Series.
      It’s how they keep costs down by utilising already existing assets (in principle no different to how reprints of many YGO and MtG cards don’t have new artwork made).

    7:56 Fun fact: this type of effect we call a “gust” effect in the PTCG. Named after the Gust of Wind Trainer card from the original Base Set.
    Prior to Lysandre’s introduction, the closest there was to a some-what reliable gusting card in standard were Pokémon Reversal and Pokémon Catcher (post-errata), which both needed a successful coin-toss to resolve the effect.

    • @Kostyurik
      @Kostyurik Před rokem +1

      I wish it stayed this way. Not flipping coin for a gusting is way too powerful and we dealing with this mess for a long time 😞

    • @DaneeBound
      @DaneeBound Před rokem +4

      @@Kostyurik The pre-errata Pokémon Catcher was busted, I agree. Getting up to four reliable gusts up on a single turn was crazy. The erratum on Catcher and the hard once-per-turn restriction on Lysandre/Boss’s Orders does more than enough to balance that effect, while keeping the game interactive.

    a bit dissapointed that Colress (not experiement) didn't get a spot, by itself it can easily get you 8, 9 or 10 cards hand refreshes. but it really shines with sky field, getting up to 16 cards hands, althogh usually something around 12 is the most common in my experience.

    I'd like to nominate Colress (not his experiment) and Pokémon Collector as two supporter cards that are so strong at what they do that I honestly doubt they'll ever be reprinted again. Colress being able to shuffle draw for really large hands in most games is a powerful effect, even outside of sky field decks. Pokémon Collector allowing you to search your deck for three basics and put them in your hand would have been in nearly every deck during the times that Shaymin EX, Dedenne GX, Tapu Lele GX, Finneon V, Eldegoss V and Crobat V have been legal, since being able to search for them while also setting up your other basics is crazy good. The fact that every Pokémon-search supporter has been weaker than Pokémon Collector since then is a testament to how strong that effect would be today.

    I would have Skyla as 11 or Cynthia as 11 myself. Skyla let's you have an additional 4 copies of any Trainer card in your deck and let's you tutor out major combo or defensive pieces in a pinch, and Cynthia lets you get a fresh hand without losing major pieces. Both are amazing.

  • @ciciuk3695
    @ciciuk3695 Před rokem +8

    I'd like to nominate Archie's Ace in the Hole (as well as Maxie, obviously) for having been clearly a game-warping card, allowing for broken, astonishing, although a little gimmicky at first glance, combo plays.
    And there's also Hex Maniac who can just destroy your opponent strategy completely, so yeah, that also might have been worth a spot.

    • @Mitjitsu

    • @ciciuk3695
      @ciciuk3695 Před rokem

      Yeah, but... it was.
      To be fair, that also has to account for something, not only by measuring the impact of the card in that specific format, but also by verifying what kind of broken stuff it can generate -which, in this case, was coincidental.

    Guzma not getting a spot is pretty odd since it's considered in most expanded decks to be a strict upgrade to Boss' Orders. Item cards like switch see way less play because Guzma does that for you in the same way that N has a dual function for drawing and disruption.

      alot of times, what on bench should stay on bench, technically you can cheat guzma by not adding any bench before using it (it would still gust your opponent but you won't switch because there is nothing on bench) but simple gust effect is much more versatile than guzma's gust switch

    Quick note on Marnie: Marnie is very good because: 1) Hand disruption is rare and powerful effect. Whether you put your opponent's hand at the bottom of their deck isn't as important. You want to drop Marnie when your opponent has a large hand, or has been setting up some cards they need for a combo in their hand. Marnie especially wrecks Lost Mine decks, for example. 2) Separate from disruption, it is just a decent way to cycle through your deck without discarding resources. 3) The risk that your opponent COULD have a Marnie forces you to play differently. It forces you to try to not end your turn with a big hand or a half-done combo.

    I still feel like if you were limited to one copy of trump card it wouldn’t be the biggest issue

    I enjoy how the number one card is named Trump Card.

    Welder isn't that special. The only thing about him is the destroyed balance in favor of charizard, bc for some reason stupid game freak cares only about popular pokemons.
    Now we have Gardenia. But there isn't that much of a good grass pokemons.

    This company is so stupid. They print cards that gives you so much desire to play then they just take away that desire by banning the card. This game should do either print broken cards only or print trash cards only

    I'd say Lysandre and Boss's Orders is the worst Supporter in the history of Pokemon TCG, not one of the best. The amount of times I lose the Pokemon TCG match just because my opponent used Lysandre or Boss's Orders supporter (once or few times) is enormous.
    I don't feel the need of playing these cards myself, because I can K.O. any Pokemon my opponent have in the active spot, and if I can't - it's a fair loss. But my opponents always use this supper annoying easy gusting option to bring either my already damaged Pokemon, my Pokemon with high retreat cost or just simply my non-battling Dedenne GX from the bench.
    In Expanded there are a lot of Tag Team and VMax cards, K.O.ing two of them is enough to win the game, so having two Lysandre/Boss's Orders in the deck theoretically is more than enough to guarantee the win. But instead of banning Lysandre/Boss's Orders in Expanded or at least limiting its use to one per game, TPCI allowing having four copies of it, four copies of Guzma and four copies of VS Seeker.
    I'm trying to combat it with my Alolan Ninetales single prize deck, but I still need Dedenne-GX to discard tools from my hand, and OF COURSE Dedenne GX became a target for Lysandre or Boss's Ortders. I can't even reduce Dedenne GX prize count with Island Challenge Amulet, because it is banned in Expanded (despite Jirachi EX being the source of the problem).
    And I can't even switch from Expanded to Standart, not only because I would need to change my decks every year, but mostly because TPCI keep printing Boss's Orders every freaking time!
    God, I hate these two cards...

    Please make a video showcasing some of the worst cards to ever exist in the TCG. Not just stuff with low HP or attack power, or that have been power crept, but cards that are just so awful due to having bad effects that you'd have to be an idiot to put them in your deck.

      Fossil Kabutops. A 60-HP Stage 2 fossil that needs FFFF to deal 40 and gets silenced by Scyther. At the time of release it was pathetic, and has gone down in history as one of the most inept cards ever.
