as a writer, I can confirm that it is occasionally like this. about 85% of the time, I write the first chapter, and have everything planned out, then can't think of what to write next, so I go into a spiral of self doubt until I start writing something new because I got bored and couldn't think of what to write. 😂😭

For me writing is a extremely calming process, when ever i am stressed i take out my phone and start writing.
For me it’s creating a universe and slowly making it feel like life instead of being controlled. Then, it’s the characters feeling like people instead of puppets. It’s giving lives to my creations and writing their stories :)

Im 14 and I’ve never really cared for writing, but at 1:30 am last night I got a big inspiration for a OC I had been drawing, and this is what I came up with for the first chapter. If anyone spares the time to read it I’d always appreciate feedback and criticism on how to back it better! TW: intense violence, gore, and abuse
I stare into my fathers eyes, frozen in fear as he looms over me with a hatchet in his hand. It’s the second time I’ve tried to run away and he is absolutely furious.
Apparently I didn’t learn my lesson last time so he’s going to make sure I do now.
He raises the hatchet and before I can move, he slashes it across my face and I stumble backwards and fall to the ground, screaming.
I can’t think, pain clouds my mind, my whole body hurts even though the gash only spans through my eye and across the the other side of my face- or at least, that’s what it feels like. Blood runs down into my mouth, the warm, metallic taste mixing with the raw pain and fear.
The initial shock fades and I can think again, I scramble backwards as he goes for another swing. I raise my arm to protect my face, feeling sharp, intense pain as the hatchet bites into my forearm. I scream again, feeling the blood run down my arm.
My father grunts angrily as he raises the hatchet for a third time. “Please!” I beg. “Stop!”
He almost swings again before lowering and dropping the bloody hatchet. “I hope you’ve learned your lesson this time” he snarls as he turns away heads back to the cabin.
Adrenaline and shock course through my veins. I try to slow my breathing, lowering my arm with a groan from the pain.
I sit on the ground, trying to process what just happened. I look around at the all too familiar trees that surround the cabin. The sun is starting to set, I look up at the little sky that is visible through the trees, its a nice sunset, orange sky, pink clouds. today would be a beautiful day, if not for what had happened.
This isn’t the first time he’s done something like this, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. I need focus on is getting into the cabin and taking
care of these wounds.
It’s a bit short and i probably will make it longer, but this is what I have written so far.

I enjoy writing a lot but the worst part for me is when I wake up to reality again and realise that I’ve been writing two book chapters for 7 hours straight (because I can’t come up with ideas or remember previous ones) and haven’t eaten anything for 10 hours and my posture is the letter C.

My problem has always been that I struggle starting a story. I've written several short stories but never the novel I've wanted to write. My ADHD doesn't help at all and I'm coming up with more ideas all the time (not saying they are all good but they're there.) I love how fun this makes writing look. I'm going to focus back in on the joy and see where that gets me.
I usually plan my chapters before getting a chance to write them although sometimes I just put words at random as if it were an essay

Writing a book is;
- telling everyone you’re writing a book but not working on it for ages
-knowing how you want things to happen in the middle and end but never knowing how to get there
-having and urge to make every character gay (more personal to me)

CHAPTER ONE: The Shining Waters
a seashell blew across the floor of the blue, pristine ocean, and it caught the eye of no other than Pearl Seawe, an ordinary mermaid girl with quite boring orange waves of hair and green, green eyes that glowed like beams of light, and fair skin that often appeared translucent. Pearl picked up the seashell and examined it, and then tossed it into a fluff of seaweed angrily. “No clams or Pearls today?” She sighed exasperated. Pearl often made lovely strings of pearls merladies loved to use as jewelry, and sold it for even, fair price, but no clams had died near this area, apparently. Pearl’s best friend, Eclipse, had shiny, short brunette locks and hazel eyes, and plain skin. She was pretty, but not so pretty as Lockett Mia, one of the popular girls at Oceanic High, where both Pearl and Eclipse attended. Lockett was lucky, with long, long locks of dark blonde, and blue eyes, like the ocean, and very creamy, tan skin, that everyone envied. Everyone loved Lockett, including Mira Silvers and Chloe Dark, her sidekicks. Mira had dark skin, that was bronzed beautifully, and brown eyes like coffee. She had beautiful long braids with strands of pearls strung on each braid, and she was very pretty. Chloe was boring looking, nearly identical to Lockett, but chubbier. Lockett was known for being very mean and stubborn.
CHAPTER TWO: where is the missing princess?
For fifteen years, the case of the missing sea princess remained popular. Many parts of the sea had been searched, but not all. Pearl had always assumed it was some other gorgeous girl with a pink perfect tail and a beautiful manner. Pearl never thought, or even dwelled, on wondering if it was her. She never even put that thought through her head.
