  • The Celestials were the first form of existence to ever live in the universe. They predate the Big Bang and even the six Singularities. Possessing infinite cosmic power, the Celestials, led by Arishem the Judge, created planets, stars, and lifeforms and brought light into the universe. In this video, we will explain the life cycle of the celestials and their origins.

As asexual, amoral beings, they began to rebel against the clockwork structure of their lives. Thus, the Aspirants celestials industriously worshiped the First Firmament. When other Celestials "rebels" wanted their own creations to evolve, for the universe to grow, change and die. The Firmament saw it as madness and sacrilege, and so war broke out for dominion of all existence, thus the multiverse was created. At the final battle of the Celestial War, both "Celestials" and Aspirants were desperate. The Aspirants had built the Godkiller Armor, a weapon of such power that they could turn the battle in their favor. However, the suit was stripped to provide key elements for the Aspirants' fleets, and they immediately entered a civil war, which gave the Celestials time to recover and crush their opponents. The war ended by the defeat of the Aspirants, and the Celestials shattering the First Firmament into pieces: As the rebels detonated their weapons, hundreds of new universes split off from it. The First Firmament fled along with the remaining Aspirants, and the new universes formed a collective entity, the Second Cosmos and First Multiverse. Time and again, due to entropy and eternity, the multiverse went through deaths and rebirth. You mentioned Knull. According to Knull, the eldritch god of darkness, the Celestials were sent by First Firmamen into the primordial darkness between the sixth and seventh cosmos, causing the war between light and dark. Knull saw the celestials as an invasion and created the Symbiotes from his own shadow, and created the Necrosword out of the living abyss. As a Celestial picked up Knull to examine him, who was enraged by the despoiling of the pure Abyss and 7th cosmos creation, Knull decapitated the being - thus the headless Knowhere floated in the renewed multiverse. The other Celestials successfully exiled Knull. Using the decapitated head, Knull used it as a forge to create All-Black the Necrosword - a metaphysical connection between the primordial symbiote and the slain cosmic god. Knull then became the god of symbiotes. The fire and hammer used in the Celestial Forge remind all symbiotes of their harsh birth into reality.
Over time, the Celestial's severed head decayed and was turned into a mining city and space station called Knowhere, while its decapitated body drifted through space and time until it eventually crossed into the Realm Between. There, the Headless Celestial's body attempted to fulfill its programming by creating a world within itself, but its sundered and corrupted soul could only create a twisted afterlife for those killed by All-Black and Knull, torturing them by forcing them to repeatedly relive their deaths and worst memories for all eternity. Over the millennia, the Headless Celestial trailed after Knull to assimilate the souls of those slain by the Necrosword, and in return provide it and All-Black's wielder with power, thereby making them nigh-invincible.
After the Knull war, and their own civil war, the conquering Celestials began to visit planets to experiment, judge, and plant celestial seeds for newborn celestials. To facilitate this, the Eternals and Deviants were created.
The thought is that a seed was planted in Earth. To help its growth cycle, the enigmatic First Host of Celestials selected the dominant race of the planet and altered their genetic structure. They create two mutations to grow alongside the normal baseline species. On the one side of the spectrum are the mutation of cosmic energy empowered and genetically unstable race, while on the other are the stable "heroes". The baseline species carry a latent gene for one or the other. To check on the seed and species progress, the Second Host came to Earth and destroyed the dominant Deviant kingdom, possibly to return a balanced energy source for the seed;s consumption. The Third Host had to return to Earth to force the pantheon of extra-dimensional gods of Earth to submit and vow not to interfere with the Celestials' work. The Fourth Host came and during deliberations to destroy this seed and planet, the elder god, Gaea (who was born during the creation of the Earth and long before any species populated the world), saved the Earth and proved humanity worthy of redemption.
The avatar of The One Above All (TOAA) - the Fulcrum - saw the First Firmament's situation and stepped in. All cosmic aspects serve TOAA for unknown reasons. Everything serving TOAA exists in sublime equilibrium. After nineteen cosmic cycles, the planet experimented on by the Celestials would be destroyed, and the energy would go to the Fulcrum. If the energy was consistent with Eternals, then the life-force would go to the Celestials, but if the aggregate energy signatures were consistent with Deviants, then it would go to the Horde (a species of insect-like beings on the opposite side of the Celestials). Celestials create while Horde destroys.
Roughly four billion years into the past, the Horde infected the Alpha Celestial Progenitor. In the agony of death, the Celestial fell on Earth, where he perished. The Celestial's body fluids seeped into the Earth and percolated through the planet's primeval surface, forever altering the Earth's evolutionary trajectory. This taint caused the superhuman abnormalities present in many of Earth's inhabitants that the original Celestials had experimented with. It is because of this "giant cosmic accident" that Earth is so unique among all the planets in the universe for being such a hotbed for super-powered madness
The Horde proliferated through the primordial surface of the planet, with countless eggs buried deep underground as the centuries passed. In 1,000,000 BC, Zgreb the Aspirant traveled to Earth to search for the Progenitor and contracted the plague that felled its fellow Celestial. Instead of killing Zgreb, the Horde mutated it into a rabid Dark Celestial, the first of its kind. Zgreb was mutated and went berserk. Eventually, all the Dark Celestials were defeated and removed by the non-infected Celestials. The unique powers of super-powered beings of Earth have energies that can cancel out the Horde, who are unstoppable even by Celetial standards.
There are individual Celestials - such as Godhead who silently oversee worlds. The host species are likely ignorant of the Celestial's motivations. Rarely, but it does occur, the species can communicate to the Celestial. If successful, the species are granted cosmic items (such as the Black Vortex) that unlock their [temporary] cosmic potential.
-Hope this helps the continuity and Celestial story.

I liked the Eternals movie. It could have been much better though. My reasons are as follows…First, i rhink they tried to push an entire cosmic story and origin in 2 plus hours. As a by product of this flaw, they didnt build a characterization sufficient for the audience to empathize with them, the eternals. I think they rushed it. They could have done better in developing the characters. Ikarus has always been headstrong but not a villian. They could have made him have doubts but not turn on his own and kill Ajak. I understand from a writers standpoint that they tried to create a shocking moment which is valid in any story, but again they werent savy enough to not sacrifice a characters development in the first movie of the eternals genre. The eternals are unique and I think the second movie will actually be better.

We get it in the comics Ego is not deemed a celestial. But you can argue that just like in 300, the deformed Spartans were murdered/exiled at birth. The hunchback still had their fighting abilities because their blood flowed through him but his deformity prevented him from wielding a shield, so he couldn't be accepted on their line.... See where I'm going with this? Ego too was born from a celestial seed planted like his brethren but the planet lacked intelligent life forms to extract from for his creation. His brain matured but his body never formed properly to emerge from that planet, but he survived by merging instead. Hence the creators of celestial used these "trials and errors" to learn how to properly birth future celestials. Would you disown a family member that's born without limbs? I would hope not, and if so you're just as F'd up as Spartans and Celestials ijs. Ego was a celestial, just a disabled one that was abandoned so he never understood his purpose.

The problem is that Disney are kicking themselves in the teeth with their brazen lack of continuity because they just don't care enough to even properly read their scripts and tie in continuity with previous films before they greenlight a new one.
GOTG2 isn't even half a decade old and they already broke its continuity.
      Just... uuuuuuggggghhhhhhh...............
It sounds like you put a lot of thought into doing Feige's own apologetics for him.
Please, respect yourself better - they are just sh111111111111t at continuity.
They can't even follow continuity within a single film sometimes.
Let alone within the whole MCU.
Take for instance Tiamut - the vision that Arishem sent to Cersi of his emergence showed a monstrously big celestial.
The thing that emerged near the end of the film WAS NOT on a scale with such a being.
It would not have even touched the mantle of the Earth going by the observable size of it's hand and partial head.
Such a being 'emerging' would almost certainly cause a catastrophic geological disturbance and large tsunami's locally - but not on a global scale event.
It just wasn't that big - hence continuity error.
      One last point:
"His brain matured but his body never formed properly to emerge from that planet, but he survived by merging instead."
It showed with no ambiguity in GOTG2 that the power was in his 'brain' - the light at the center of his planet.
It showed he was fully capable of forming structures all on his own - if he had time to do the cha cha with all those races, he had the time to form a body, and he certainly would have known about the others, which he unmbiguously said he never found.
Face it - Gunn went cosmic to make Star Lord and GOTG level up, then Disney took a pass and decided to do it their own way after they fired him.
Eternals is the result of that decision - whether the MCU will eventually realign to Gunn's original cosmic vision for it is anyones guess, but I would say no.
They will make GOTG3 and then be done with him, with the Guardians only appearing again in other characters films - GOTG3 is just Disney/Marvel/Feige burying the hatchet to save face after kneejerk firing him, but he will eventually go.

Ego the Living Planet wasn’t/isn’t a Celestial, though. He just wasn’t/isn’t. He was/is what his name implies, a living planet. Nothing more, nothing less. In the MCU’s continuity now, your point holds some ground up under it, Ego likely is supposed to be a Celestial that didn’t quite form himself right so he looked around when he was young and just emulated that. This is only my personal headcanon concerning MCU Ego, but it is that he still isn’t a Celestial and he lied and he only did so to make himself look better in order to convince his children to cooperate with him better for his plan. But to try and answer your question about Scott Lang being the size of a Celestial. My answer simply is that I don't think he could survive or live at that size. He's human unlike a Celestial who are basically gods, so, Lang at that size just wouldn't have enough oxygen air to breathe in to live. You saw what happened to him in the second movie when he went up to a gigantic size, he passed the hell out and had to be revived by the Wasp. Someone else may know more about this than I do that can answer it in more detail for you.

The celestial seed wasn't planted 7000 years ago. it was planted millions of years ago and the deviants were first sent probably a couple million years after Tiamut's seed had been planted and their duty was to eliminate the predator live forms in order to make way for intelligent life to flourish on earth, but the deviants evolved and went against their core duty and hence the eternals where then sent about 7000 years ago to eliminate the deviants. Celestial seeds form and mature over millions of years and not a couple thousand years.
