    My Little Koala just arrived and I had to come back and watch your review again, the instructions are crap, and I wasn’t surest if it was doing the NOR cycle or just in standby mode. It doesn’t tell you how many mAhs are going into the cell while it is charging, I guess it only does that when it is discharging, have to wait and see. So you have to be able to watch the voltage go up or wait until the timer changes from 0:00 to 0:01 (it doesn’t tell you the seconds), there is no light or other indicator. But, I still have big hopes for it, have been waiting patiently for it to arrive 😁. Thanks for the video Joe!

    A few points.
    The power brick is rated at 2 A or 2000 mA so the total charge amperage should not total more than 2 A. If you want to charge at 1 A (1000 mA) you should only be doing 2 batteries at a time, you might be able to safely do 3x 750 mA (2250 mA total) charging, buts that's as far as I would push that power brick, and even then I personally would not. If you feel the need to charge 4x 1000 mA, get a 12v 4 or 5A power brick.
    Fast Test: Measures during charge (Fair accuracy)
    It will discharge first, and recorded during the charging cycle.
    Best time to use this mode is when the batteries are nearly discharged anyway that way it will only take minutes to finish discharging, before the test starts.
    Normal Test: Measures during discharge (Good accuracy)
    Will fully charge first, and record on the discharge cycle, then fully recharge the batteries.
    Best time to use this mode is when the batteries are almost fully charged to begin with, this way it will only take minutes to fully charge before the test starts.

      @mihairosu8518 Před 5 lety +6

      You are wrong! The power brick is 12Vx2A = 24W, when charging batteries is 4x4.2Vx1A=16.8W (at max) plus any losses during conversion (12V -> 4.2V)! So the the power brick it's well within specs!

      @@mihairosu8518 you're right that the power supply should be within the specs and that since that we're talking about a buck conversion it's indeed about power and now current. Yet upon receiving this very same unit with the very same adapter, said adapter is incapable of supplying enough wattage to perform a NOR test @ 1000mAh for 4 batteries!! The charger just simply cuts off and reboots. NOR test @ 750mAh seems to be working fine albeit with the machine heating up quite a bit. I will write Banggood about this to either get a partial refund or a more "juicy" adapter like other people on this thread have said.

    No doubt the variability in the IR testing of the LiitoKala (and the Opus) can be attributed to the spring mechanism of the battery holders. You can reduce the variability by pressing the spring end into the battery towards the fixed end during the IR test. This makes a consistent solid contact and takes the spring tension out of the equation.

      Use a reliable Fluke, or Gossen Metrawatt, multimeter or a LCR meter for checking batteries internal resistance. Those Chinese charger probably have poor component for test compared to products people rely on to take electrical measurements. Justice my 2¢. If you want to measure the batteries resistance in AC current use a quality multimeter, or a LCR meter to check DC current

    One last test take 4 batteries and compare capacity results between chargers. Since they may be watching this, it would be nice just to have a 7s bank holding 70-140 cells. Then you put the cells in and you have a 24V system. They spend all the time on batteries and chargers, yet they don't have battery holders with tesla fuses, balancers, and safety checks. Kind of wondering now how they have 5V output if all the batteries in it are different voltages, do they each have a circuit and they combine them?.

As others mentioned they can only discharge at 0.5A so you'll get about 15% more mAh compared to 1A discharge. Anyway it's so affordable that I'm fine with that.

    I have Ledlenser 14500 Li-Ion rechargeable 750 mAh 3.6V 2.77Wh and FENIX 18650 ARB-L18-3500 mAh 3.6V 12.6Wh Li-Ion rechargeable batteries and PANASONIC Eneloop BK-3MCCE AA 1900 mAh ve BK-4MCCE AAA 750 mAh Ni-MH Rechargeable batteries. So since they are not Nickel-cadmium and lead-acid batteries I don't need to discharge them right?
    Lastly, as far as I know if we wanna store a battery, won't use it for a long time say 2- 3 months, we have to store them in a certain percentage of juice. I think its %40 or %50 I'm not sure. So, can discharge mode be used in this situation? For example if a battery is full we can discharge it till %50 then store it. Is that true?

    • @AveRage_Joe
      @AveRage_Joe  Před 6 lety

      I havent tried any low voltage cells since I precharge all cells in a tp4056 charger. The blinking end I think is when the discharge has been completed and the steady end is when the cell has been recharged after the discharge cycle. I dont know of a charger that will do a capacity check then recharge or recharge to a storage voltage. I know the opus has a hidden switch that will go to the storage charge. It can also be used to capacity check LifePo4 cells.

I chose the wrong mode at first, chose FAST TEST and the charger stopped testing after 5 minutes, ended with less than 100mAH each. Switched to NOR TEST and 2/4 of the eneloop pro started working again! Could get them to 700-800mAH. But the other 2 went over voltage. Each eneloop pro supposed to hold 1.2v 2500mAH, but that 2 went up to 1.5v and refused to charge past 50mAH. What can I do to get them working again?

      If the battery is a 1.2v battery, it wont charge much past that or you would ruin it. 1.5v to fully recharge it sounds great to me. Once its fully charged like it should be, you could capacity test it to see if they are still at the rated capacity. I also remember hearing eneloop batteries had a special charge profile but dont quote me on that.

    Fast Test: First discharges battery from any voltage it is to 2.8V, and Second: full Charges it and measures capacity during this charge, and then stops (so measuring the Capacity During the Charge).
    Nor Test: First Full Charges the battery. Second Discharges the battery (to 2.8V) and Measures the Capacity during this Discharge, and Third: Full Charges the battery and Stops (so measuring the Capacity During the Discharge).
    Also there is not any description that: What is the "2X" in the shown "internal resistance table"?!

    After getting used to this unit being upside down cell insert wise, and from the occasional "even in the first 8 seconds you still have to do each slot settings manually" it really isn't that bad of a unit though it does get much warmer than the OPUS. I will be getting more of them.

I thought I did it, but low and behold, only slot 4 was nor test, the rest weren't. So had to start all over again, and this time I just did it one slot at a time....Having to put the cells into the unit the opposite of all other units takes a while to get used to. This mode setting setup is a bad design.

    Hello Joe!!I use my Imax B6 V2 to measure the resistance of the batteries(till I get my new charger!!!😊). Just curious, Do you know what the resistance should be for a basic std 10amp discharge battery. I am sure the resistance grows with the 20 and 30 amp discharge rate batteries. I have some of each. The Highest rated Batteries I have is a 30Amp LG HB2(Brand New). I can't find any info in agreement to what the resistance should be? I believe I might have heard someone say 150m and under is good, anything higher if its not a high rated discharge battery is bad?
    I have never really paid attention to this until I got my Imax b6 V2. I just test the battery over and over and kept a close eye on the discharge of the battery after 1 week. Would be nice, just to know what resistance I should be looking for.

    I have six clones of these chargers/testers. On mine:
    1) They discharge at only 500 mA max as there is no active cooling (fan).
    2) If they get too hot, discharge drops to 300 mA, resulting in an inflated mAh result.
    3) Fast test ignores the discharge and gives you the mAh put IN to the battery (aka a charge test).
    4) NOR test (aka normal test or discharge test) won't show test results until the recharge process has completed, so there's no opportunity to move the cell out to a TP4046 and start testing the next cell.
    Still, good testers if you understand its shortcomings.

    • @Woodyjims-shack
      @Woodyjims-shack Před 6 lety +2

      I think the clones may be different. Mine don't work like that on point 4. They discharge and show the result once it drops the cell to 2.8v this number then doesn't change through the rest of the cycle. So if you are around you can switch them to the tp4056's once discharge is over :)

      For Powerwall builders and a lot of other battery builds, most test at 1a to find and weed out the cells that have high resistance/heat up and because its faster but you can charge/test them at .5a if wanted because real discharge or charge in a powerwall or big battery build usually ends up being less then .5amps. I havent had a chance to try out the Miboxer charger so I cant say but in theory it sounds good to charge based on battery health.

    Are you still liking this charger? I just bought one to augment my capacity to test batteries - have an Ambient Weather BC-3000 (this is basically a re-badged Opus BT-C3100 v2.2) which has been a great charger but between having to replace the fan every so often and getting a better power supply for it (the 3100's stock power supply is absolute garbage) - Lii-500 just seemed to be a much more cost effective option since I never discharge any batteries faster than 500mA anyway.

      @@AveRage_Joe That is good to know. I just sort of stumbled across this one - it seems to be similar to an accupower IQ338 - but again - half the price - so it seems hard to go wrong with it. I'll let you know how it does - I have 16 18650's coming in that need to be conditioned for the first time so the Lii-500 will be busy. I probably will do it with the Opus model just to see how they both compare in the real world (after I replace yet another fan in it - lol).

    Nice review of the LiitoKala Charger :) Another one for the tool box! It's a shame, though, that it's just as inaccurate/inconsistant with the Resistance test as the Opus. Does it use spring wires inside as well; and possibly not even soldered?

    Hiya Buddy, been catching up on your great videos.
    I have a request/suggestion for your battery charger videos. Could you test the cutoff voltages for discharge tests? And also bounce-back voltages, after discharge is complete. ie., some chargers may discharge to 3.00v under discharge load, but then bounce back to 3.60v 1 minute after removed.
    I have the Opus 3400, and it actually removes the discharge load to check cell voltage for discharge termintation at 3.30v. This makes a large difference in the S.O.C. remaining in the cell, and at the same time prevents them from pulling that last 1% or so SOC from the cells, which greatly shortens their lifespan. Cheaper chargers just shoot for 2.6 - 3.0v while under load , so the cell could still have 30% or more charge still remaining, depending on the discharge load and cell type.
    You have become one of the most faithful posters from the 18650 folks. Cheers on your persistence and great videos! That is what it takes to succeed on CZcams, and it's great to see you're starting to see some of the perks from that ;)
    ~Aspen

    • @AveRage_Joe
      @AveRage_Joe  Před 6 lety

      Hey man whats going on? Yeah I could do a video on there cutoff voltage and then see where the cells bounce back to after removing for about a min or so. It might take me a little time to capture it since im not always around to see the low end but Ill try to time it on the weekend. Im wondering if the bounce back happens more on the 1amp setting over the the lower settings. Im betting it does. If I can be there for that, ill check the lower amp setting as well. I appreciate the comment and Yes, starting to see some of the other benefits of doing the CZcams!!!!😆👍🔋

      10-50 is good cells where 15-25 is a really really good cell. Anything above 50 it’s crap for high draw devices. But okay for Low drain devices. Up to 100 and above be aware of it and be careful from overheating
