What’s a deal breaker for me is the 2nd position being 23 inches…one inch lower and it is carry on size. 16 inches is just far too small though in the only carry on position.
Agree!
I agree. Would have been better at 22 inches. Also like being able to use the trolly sleeve for my carryon.
Personally I think they owe you a complimentary piece of luggage! You are a great ambassador ❤
I love the flexibility in using this bag, and the engineering looks fantastic! I think they’re onto something. I happily backed this venture. I believe this is just the beginning!!
This seems super cool! Thanks Laurie!
Thanks for sharing 🎉 This suitcase is super cool 😎
Omg, I want this!!! Great for trips where you might bring back stuff and need a bigger suitcase or you're taking over stuff to friends and family, and dont need a big suitcase to cone home. I want it so bad!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
I'm so excited to receive this bag. I've been looking for a bag throughout my travels for a long, long time that will suit my needs. Let's just say a couple of weeks ago to a month I really needed this bag. But I'm going to go ahead get it and be well. Hopefully this helps me with my luggage fetish that I have LOL. I'm still trying to see if I should get the laptop holder attachment (separately purchase) if chosen.
This is my first time at your channel Miss Laurie and thank you for explaining the definitions of different options that the bag has. Over on Kickstarter some people seem still confused no matter what, LOL.
The web page for this suit case says it weighs 10 lbs. Is that correct? Checked bags generally have a weight limit. While it is cool. It’s very heavy.
Thanks Laurie, I saw an ad for this bag and was wondering about it. I might have to check it out!
I couldn’t wait to show it to everyone!
I'd like to see an updated review after it's been used as a checked bag. I'd like to know how it holds up to baggage handling. My sister's brand new hardshell that had a protective cover was destroyed. DESTROYED by baggage handlers... So yeah. Let's see the update review from a long haul or other international checked luggage flight.
Thanks 🙂
I didn’t get to keep it. It’s aluminum frame-did you see that part?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie You did such a great job describing this revolutionary suitcase; VELO should have given it to you.
That was my first thought.... what happens to the mechanisms in it after it has been tossed around by the luggage handlers... does it accidentally expand when thrown? It will be interesting to see.
@@doriscassan6996 Hi Doris. Like I mentioned in the video, it does not accidentally move to the next size or depress. You have to be pushing the button and pushing or pulling at the same time. It's great! So bizarre right?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurieYou didn’t keep it because it was aluminum framed? What’s wrong with aluminum frame? Thanks
This was terrific Information! Will look into it Laurie! Thanks 🌺🌸
I thought it was cool luggage to show everyone.
Amazing case!
Love it! Thank you so much for showing us. I will probably be going to North Carolina and Tennessee. A few more places if my body allows it. Take care of yourself!
I have perfectly fine luggage (both for checked and carry on) but I really really want this for my upcoming christmas trip.😅
It’s cool luggage isn’t it? I just wanted to show everyone.
Wow! That’s really heavy! Not for me thank you but an interesting concept.
I thought the suitcase was so interesting as well.
Love the spinners as I’m sure it makes it easy to maneuver. My only “ Hard No” with this is the extra wide extended handle. There isn’t a personal idem (with trolley sleeve) that you can attach to.
This is a brilliant idea and design, and a very thorough review, thanks Laurie! For me 16” is small and 22” is too large for carry on, and it weighs 10 pounds empty. But it’s about time that a brand invests in such a clever alternative, and I’m sure it will be a great option for so many travelers! 👍🏻
This is so relaxing
Disappointed that it is not actually on the market yet. It's more of a prototype that requires an investment from the consumer since this is on Kickstarter. When I went through the actual process to order, it says "estimated delivery March 2023". Hmm. Would like to be able to order an actual suitcase rather than "investing" and hoping it comes to fruition. Thanks for demonstrating this. The concept is interesting, and it does seem there's been good thought given to the process.
Holy cow, that’s sooo cool!!😮
I thought it was fun to show everyone this new tech.
Interesting concept. TFS
Given the really wide handle, I'd be challenged because my shoulder bag but I think my cincha strap would help. Do wish it was 21 or 22 not 23.
I have been eyeing those cincha straps!
I need one!
I love how the handle is wide (bummer about trolley straps, but it is what it is) to allow for maximum packing space. As a former legacy carrier employee, my concern is how the checked sizes will hold up to ramp services.
Very interesting. I would have liken to see the interior in its expanded sizes.
Hi Lauren there is a picture of it open flat I think near the end. Hope that helps.
Once again such a pleasure to see and hear you - it is exactly that every time.
It feels like a visit from a friend rather than a video about a product. Additionally - the case sounds fantastic, and I am already thinking about how I would make use of such a case.
I am currently a Tumi loyalist, after many years of bouncing around other brands, and I have been with them for over 10 years now. Like many Tumi customers I have several (over 6) bags from them, and everything just seems to work. Just like every other brand, they are not perfect, but you get into a groven with them, and I have ended up liking the way their bags work.
This case, however, has me interested. It might be time to refresh the luggage soon, so I might give it a whirl.
Velo would have to look far and wide to gat a more effective ambassador than you, and I'm not sure they could even find one. Great job. They owe you a set of cases.
BTW - what are your thoughts on Tumi luggage?... You must see their stuff all the time, given you travel quite a bit.
Have you ever used their kit?
Got any thoughts on that or on comparisons with other brands?
Any comments form you would be gratefully received.
Once again - Thanks for making such delightful videos and for being so great in them. Keep up the excellent work.
Thanks for your kind words! My flight attendant friends do not like their luggage, but I have heard from a viewer who loves their backpack.
That’s genius l am going to Canada in 5 weeks want to travel only with carry on case. Want to buy this will look up website thanks for the tip. 🙏💕
I wonder how the inside works. Looks nice, but I wonder the way you have to pack to make it either small or large. I think you can not make it small when you already have packed large. Maybe a video about how to pack inside and change sizes when is already packed? Thank you Laurie, greetings from Dallas.
A-mazing!!!
As an international traveler, I am intrigued by this design. I went to the info page, but did not see a weight. Yes, it is a very interesting idea.
Weight is 10.5 lbs., a deal breaker for flying internationally where weight limits are enforced rigidly.
I too was intrigued by this new type of suitcase! It is 10 lbs but as a carry-on it does not feel like it. Maybe because it is square?
That is a cool suitcase
I like that. I'd still prefer it to be a 2 wheel style, though. I think I've mentioned being the designated porter and coupling multiple suitcases into a train. the 2 wheel style tracks better in that function.
Thank you, Laurie. I just can’t use a bag that, empty, weighs more than 10 lbs! No way.
Hi! That is totally fine. We were just showing those people who may want carry-on luggage or checked sized luggage what this new type of gear looks like. I was mesmerized!
What’s the cost it’s not only cleaver but I bet a game changer when traveling. I like black but I bet they will offer more color choices
Interesting technology!
Laurie, what's your take on hard-sided luggage, now that you've had some time to test it out & travel with it? I remember watching that you originally preferred soft-sided carry-ons.
Love your videos!
I sure did want it, but when I packed for Banff I could fit more shoes in my 20" hardshell than the 22" soft sided one. Maybe it is the 2 sides when open. I could not believe it.
Looking at it now to see if it works with my airlines to fly over to the US from DK. Thanks Laurie! I always love your videos
Hi it is not for sale as of yet. I believe their site will tell you where they are.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I know that, it is a kickstarter. However, it has weird dimensions that I doubt Iceland, KLM or SAS would fine acceptable. My husband had my squishable Cotopaxi Alpa backpack, and he got hit with a surcharge. Plus, i do not want half my weight taken up by the luggage itself. Though I loved the interior
I just checked the velo site and getting the bag seems to be an issue. Seems a second facility was needed and the ship date has been moved from January to May but not to the US. Really sad since I was thinking about getting one but I can spend that kind of money and risk not getting the bag before my planned month long trip. Thanks for sharing your experiences and videos
Hi Laurie, Happy Thanksgiving! Without the quick grab handles, would the luggage handlers have difficulty with this bag when it’s the large check in size?
Hi technically no. But you can make the handle be a quick grab one. It will not collapse.
this would be helpful when one likes to shop/bring back gifts with not having to buy another bag. interesting and great idea. btw, I had to get the Minkeeblue bag! I have one and LOVE how well it is made. Can't wait to get that pretty red/plum one.
Ooh that’s a great idea too! Lots of flight attendants do that.
That what I was thinking too for my trip to Europe next year. I want to be “carry on only”, but I know I will shop, and have been wondering how to plan for that.
I love the concept but traveling internationally, it will be a checked bag depending on the airline. I hope this is just the beginning of this ingenious design. Thanks for sharing 😍😘
Most major global airlines will reject it - e.g. Air Canada accepts up to 9” deep - Velo is a whopping 15.5” deep. Buyer beware
Laurie, what is the weight of this velo luggage when empty?
Hi Linda. It is 10 lbs.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie thank you for quick reply. Dang! that's pretty heavy at the start.
Wow😍
Love everything but the wheels & the weight~
It is just such cool technology or engineering. Couldn’t wait to show y’all!
How do you put on the airline luggage tag on this? I do not see any handles on this.
I just read an article that airports are supposed to install better scanners by 2024 and the flying public will not need to have the small liquids in a liquids bag. Have you heard about this?
I saw that for the UK! Hoping!!
Yes, I believe already in Shannon Airport in Ireland!
WOW 🤯
Deal breakers: Trolley straps will not fit, small size of carry on, lack of side strap when expanded. Without that side strap how am I going to hoist the expanded, packed case into my car to drive to the airport?
So many features to think about, right? It is not for everyone.
I love how geeked you are about this luggage!😍
It is just so cool that I wanted to show everyone what is coming down the runway ha.
That is quite amazing. As far as packing laptop only if you know the case is not going in belly of plane, how can you be sure?
I guess if you know your boarding time-if your letter goes first or if your area gets to board first.
I love your videos...... just when you do some of these bag ones I can you show affordable one that are similar. I know this bag will not have one, but like that backpack or one that was flight attendant investment pieces.
Hi thanks for watching. I have an Amazon page if you would like info: www.Amazon.com/shop/traveltipsbylaurie But this video is just to show you this new bag that will be coming out into the world of travel.
Wonder what the price is
Can you do a followup after you've used it for a while to let us know how it holds up? I could see it breaking but hopefully I'm wrong
Hi, I did not keep the suitcase; I just wanted to show it to the world of travelers.
Do you know if European airports are strict regarding backpacks as carry on?
Hi it is the airlines you can google. Search personal item or carry-on size requirements
Great review. When I clickedo nthe link there were no prices. That's ok as I guess it's expensive!
Ha, it's still in the kickstarter phase. I just wanted to show my audience this new gear.
Can you bring nail clippers through the TSA line?
Hi, yes!
Holy crow!!
Its not available to buy yet so i will see how it compares when they have a price on it
That's amazing! I'm still confused about the zippers though. Followed your link and watched all their video clips but I still don't get it. 🤣
It’s magic! You don’t have to understand it lol.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Oh, I should've known that! 🤣
FYI - This is a Kickstarter company - needing help to get money to help it grow, Great item
That looks cool, but I am curious how much does it weigh ? You have some great ideas for packing but would you be able to pack a carry on suitcase 7kg with purse only (30cm x 40cm x 10cm). I am Irish and flying in and out of Houston in a couple of weeks. I have 3 hours to spend in Houston so do u have any recommendations for food in duty free there 😉
I think it will weigh 10 lbs
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie thanks a mill. I think I will just stick with Samsonite C Lite (made in Europe) it's 1.9kg and 4.2lbs.
The deal breaker for me is that wide handle .I stack bags and I don't like bag straps. So it's a no for me
Great video and you are too cute!
For hard shell baggage, i would like to see a smart engineering for the wheels. Maybe folding wheels. They are taking too much space to the already limited space flying companies give us. Until then, and until they add quick access external pockets, i will continue using the other type. This product here is very smart though, i must admit.
Check out Take OFF Luggage. I don’t have one, but I’ve been intrigued by the removable wheels.
@@kristin347 Thanks for sharing - new to me!
Where do i buy one. I am Ontario Canada
Hi, I do not think they have started selling this one yet.
Hi laurie.. I'm a traveler too, may I ask the weight of the luggage and where to buy them. Thanks. I always watch your video. Very helpful. Have a good day.
Hi!! It’s 10 lbs.
@@TravelTipsbyLauriesorry, but that’s way, way too heavy for me…
@@dorothybutler2269 No worries at all, friend. It is not for sale yet. I was just showing y'all this new suitcase.
have you tested this luggage with heavier load? It doesn't seem as durable when we extend it and adds more weight.
Remember it is not for sale yet.
This is going to either become standard or put some companies out of business 👍🏽
I thought it was so cool!
Hi dear! Have you used the luggage so far? I received the advertising, the price is excellent, but is it worth? 10 lbs with clothing?
Hi I was just letting people know about this luggage-they wanted me to just help get the word out. Not sure it’s available yet
My daughter will be living abroad for a year in Curitiba, Brazil. Any travel suggestions would be appreciated!
Ooh how exciting!! I have not been there.
Very clever. Is the bag heavy?
Looks like 10.3 lbs empty. Yikes!
It’s hard to explain. Because it’s square, you do not feel the weight. It’s solid but not heavy to hoist overhead if in the carry-on position.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie maybe empty its not heavy but once it's full that maybe a different matter.
The weight when empty is a dealbreaker for me. 10.3 lbs. Yeesh.
What is the weights of the bag?
Hi it’s 10 lbs.
I don't get it. Wouldn't you pack it for whatever size you wanted, unless you wanted to start small and expand it later for items you picked up on your trip? And having a wide handle that a luggage sleeve wouldn't fit over is a deal-breaker for me.
At the beginning she made the point that some people might want one bag that served many purposes -- so instead of collecting several bags in different sizes, you might be able to get by with just one that changed size. I'll bet that would be great for people in tiny city apartments, or folks who didn't travel much too.
That makes sense.
Is this for purchase yet?
I think they are still kickstarting.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Thank you.
What's the price please?
It is not for sale yet; check their site for updates.
it's definitely an interesting concept as a first iteration but I think they missed the mark along the way on their sizing. It would have better to have the suitcase go from an underseater to a true carry-on and the largest size would be a small checked bag. Also, the proportions seemed odd, almost too boxy, and I wonder if the depth is more than some airlines allow. I couldn't find the true dimensions anywhere on their campaign page. As others have mentioned, it seems way too heavy to be a carryon and would eat up a good chunk of your weight allowance on international flights. And finally, there didn't appear to be any exterior grab handles anywhere, which also seems odd.
I like the wide handle and could see them developing some sort of sling that goes across it when it's extended that would act as a hammock of some sort that could hold a personal item, but from what I understand, the better option for ergonomics and also weight distribution would be to have a J-hook with the personal item laying on the suitcase itself and not the handle.
I agree that underseater to carry-on would be helpful.
What’s the weight?
10 lbs
Is it very heavy?
It is 10 lbs but does not feel like it in the square carry-on position.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Thanks!
How much the luggage?
I do not think it’s for sale yet.
Thanks for your reply .it’s a great product 👍
I bet this advertisement for VELO
It was a paid advertisement for VELO as indicated. They're just starting it up.
Your video is a bit confusing and actually contradicts the Velo manufactures own description. It says carry on 22" but you say it's checked at that size. I think you're mistaken.
The handle won’t hold my backpack 😢
That was the one bad part that I mentioned.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I have a bad habit…of commenting during the video…not after…but I really love the innovation….luggage has been getting better and better lately…and half my luggage stash comes from u… truly love your channel….❤️
Dont believe it, it is just advertisement, I heard the luggage is very heavy !
Laurie this appears to have been a scam; I gave them my money over a year ago. Do you have any contact info so that I can kick these losers in the groin? (metaphorically, sadly just metaphorically)
Hi, they were just in start up but no I do not. Good luck!
I finally got mine but not only is it clunky, it’s also too big to qualify for carry on for many airlines. This case is 15.5” deep and many limits are around 9” deep. Do your homework!
$359 :o :o
Not so revolutionary. If you have filled the larger sizes with items, it's darn near impossible to get the suitcase down to carry on (the smallest) size. So the expandability is really only useful one way, getting bigger.
Do not try to order one. I was one of the early backers on Velo's kickstarter and its been a year and almost no one has received a bag. Check the kickstarter comments yourself. This is a scam!
Also too big to qualify for carry on for many airlines. This case is 15.5” deep and many limits are around 9” deep. Do your homework!
@heatherm133 good point. Finally received mine and traveled with it. I did a review on my channel. Also, it weighs 11 lbs empty.
Looks very expensive...
This was obviously invented by a woman!!! What a neat suitcase!!!
😓 քʀօʍօֆʍ
Experiemced Travelers will NOT buy it. Why ? It is too HEAVY. Do you agree with me ? Travel Light is most important than design like this.
Great concept but poor execution and very faulty design. I got my bag last week and am disappointed. Not only does it not expand easily or correctly and sits on an awkward angle in its highest position, it has no top handle or side handle. How on earth are airline baggage handlers going to load it from the belt onto the plane and off again? You certainly don’t want them to have to pull up the main handle, as it will end up snapping off. The lack of a small top or side handle for airline handlers to use is a HUGE problem! There’s not even a place for a bag tag unless you raise the sliding handle up. It’s also worth mentioning that the middle size makes no sense. Why make the mid-sized option 23 inches when 22 is the max for a carry-on? The only option for carry-on is a tiny 16 inch size, which in my opinion is really too small to hold much at all.
Also too big to qualify for carry on for many airlines. This case is 15.5” deep and many limits are around 9” deep. Do your homework if planning to travel with this!
almost too clever by half...
Interesting concept. TFS
