No everyone has a “job”. Some are stay at home moms. And they also had jobs around the home, like mending and taking care of all 10 kids and beating rugs, etc.
Literally every moment of the day (at least for the class represented here) was concerned with acquiring, preserving, or preparing food for the family. Even having so many kids was part of that: more hands to get more done (and don't give me anything about them not having birth control, because they did; it just didn't look the same). PTA, jobs as we view them, CZcams, cars, etc are all wildly new to society, most not even 100 years old. Gwenna's joke stands.
I firmly believe this is why crockpots, pressure cookers, casseroles, and microwaves came into fashion. A good crock pot recipe is rough to beat, pressure cooking can save time and doesn't have to be watched and stirred endlessly, learning to make double and freeze one is a wonder, and zapping leftovers, as well as repurposing them so that they are disguised and feel like a freshly cooked meal is fabulous... yes I am looking at you cook a roast or sheetpan of veggies & use all week.
