  • So you broke your rear glass on your hardtop JK? So did I. I replaced it myself for $240. This is the step by step instructions of the entire process from buying the glass to cleaning out the glass from the attached parts to putting it all back together to an operational and like-new state. I believe this should apply to 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 hardtop Jeep Wranglers. The whole thing probably took me 4 hours, but about 30-45 minutes of it was stupid mistakes that you won't make if you watch this. Another hour was probably burned just messing with the camera. So this should probably be a 2-3 hour job to do it well. I put a couple funny bloopers at the end of some screw-ups.

Really do appreciate the video. I’ll be installing my new glass window this weekend!! I’m sure I’ll be referencing your video several times 🤣🤣

Nice vid. Looks like too much work for me so I called my insurance company and told them I broke the rear glass when I was taking the hardtop off and they sent Safelite out and they replaced it for free! If you have comprehensive insurance it’s covered.

Very helpful video. I could never get the wiper arm to disengage with chisels, screwdrivers, etc. Spent $13 on Amazon for a tool I’ll only have to use once, hopefully!
For the struts, I ended up taking them apart. It made putting the top part back on much easier. Wish I would’ve thought of that 2 hours earlier!

Thanks for making the mistakes so I didn't have to. Super easy DIY thanks to you! Saved my about $750 over what I was quoted by the repair shop.

Hi, and another big thank you for taking the time to put this video together! A lot of work, but sooooo... worth it for everyone you have helped. Matter of fact, your video is referenced in the comments in ebay or Amazon. I got mine on ebay, but it did not come with the weatherstrip, so I carefully removed the one from the old bar, cleaned the new one with alcohol, and used black weatherstrip adhesive to hold it in place. My struts went a little easier. Once you lined up the squares on the plastic and metal brackets with the square stem of the screw, it tightened like a champ. Though I did need the large pliers to remove the nut from the broken glass. All in all, nice to save the money doing it myself. The glass is a bit more expensive now ($280+tax). My son priced Safelite and they wanted around $700 for the repair. And how did my window break? My sons were using my Jeep to pull out a stump, well the top of the stump decided to go airborne and you know the rest of the story... 🙂

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just finished replacing my rear glass with the same replacement (from Amazon). Previous owner hit the defroster grid with an ice scraper and destroyed it. I had an extra nut left over, and couldn't remember how the wiper motor had been attached. You saved the day!

I actually got a free hardtop with missing rear glass. Bought nice rear glass on amazon but gave up on the struts this evening. Tomorrow I'll try again after watching you vid. Thanks!

Can't beat free! That was nearly the fate of mine. If I couldn't fix it myself I was going to give it away and go soft top. Came together really well though. Good luck!

Outstanding. Probably should have watched this before I started replacing mine instead of after when I can't get the struts connection to stay in place.

Hopefully it helped. I didn't realize how many people bust that window. Seeing how many others have done it by seeing the views and comments is therapeutic. I'm not the only one...

Ha. I was so mad at myself. I heard that thud in the trash can and I immediately knew what happened. You could see me freeze for a few seconds in disbelief that I just did that. 😂 Glad you enjoyed!

Thank you very much you make awesome videos very detailed. You helped me out tremendously. I was in a bad accident and I had to kick out the back glass to exit the vehicle. I cannot afford to have it professionally installed as you had mentioned a cost over $1000 to take it to a glass shop I think they quoted me $1200. I watched your video, ordered the glass on eBay and was able to install it with no problems. Thank you very much for your video.

@@MattBurns303 vote red. Doesn’t make sense what they are doing to this great nation. Keeps mine in the garage a lot more too.

broke mine the other day in the garage too - landed on my head and glass everywhere (doesn't crumb up that well). my cock up was pushing down on the glass to move it slightly when it was suspended and it couldn't move due to the ceiling straps.

I really thought I was the only one that would break that glass and when I posted this video I thought, if I can just help ONE person... 5000 views later I'm realizing this is more common than I thought. Good luck brother.

Extra tip... Tighten the strutts before trying them.. otherwise plastic parts break etc..

I bought it on eBay from acepickupparts. Try this. You can also buy the dark tinted one from them I think. Hopefully this link works... www.ebay.com/itm/194376944708

pick out the broken glass before you try loosen the bolts. that will reduce the pressure on the bolts making them easier to unscrew.
