- In this video I'll show you how to safely remove and then reinstall automotive 1/4 panel glass. This install pertains to glass that is held in by a seal whereas a few auto makers glue the glass in. Windshield glass is a bit more difficult but many quarter panels and rear hatch glass will be the same as this how-to.

Still an Xj god in 2023. My 00 has a rust patch under the glass on the exterior and after a few years of staring at this growing spot, lm finally tooled and skilled enough to fix it for free, at home. Thanks Matt!
Hey Matt I just wanted to say thank you for the videos. I found this channel a few months ago and i never owned a jeep before but I was persuaded by the Hope Floats project to buy a jeep. I bought a 92 XJ and installed a RC 6.5 long arm kit, ARB lockers, regeared it, slip yoke eliminator, 35 inch Mickeys and a bunch of other things but threw the whole project I always used your videos for advice and to get my rig where it is and I couldn't ask for a better trail rig and daily driver. Big thanks to you and the whole BleepinJeep crew
I actually used this video to take a window off myself! Thanks bleepin Jeep!
Thankyou wish you all the best 7 years later still helping blokes out.
This was incredibly helpful. I replaced the seal on the window. Was done in under an hour and fixed the leak. Thanks!
Brilliant - thank you so much for the time you took to put this on screen... Just replaced a smashed window in a friends car which went like a dream. Cheers from the UK
You're a beast. Thanks for making these videos. They're Gold for us XJ owners!
My go to Jeep video guy, very helpful videos! Ill be replacing my glass as soon as the window comes, thanks bleepin Jeep
Pulling replacement glass at the junkyard tomorrow. This video is a Godsend. Thanks.
This really worked! Thank you so much for this informative video. The only issue we had was that it was -10 here in Chicago and the rubber seal was incredibly stiff. Still worked though
Watched your video and changed my first window. It was a quite easy. Thanks.
I just bought my xj today and that window is broken I'm so glad I found this. So helpful thanks a bunch
I havent seen this for years and years until today. Forgotten how much fun it is
The whole time I was anticipating it to shatter. . . But noooooo
You Sir are an awesome instructor,
Thank
You so much for the detailed procedure. 🙏
Just had to do this job and let me tell you this method made it super easy!!! I locked my keys in the Jeep and at the time I had no motor in it or a battery connected, so I said screw it and cut out the back window lol Thanks Bleepin Jeep!
AWESOME!
Thank you so much.
I knew it had to be fundamentally simple but you made it very clear and easy to follow.
Thanks again!
(using this method to replace a sliding door window assembly on a 1983 Vanagon)
You are the only person that I could find do this video on CZcams
Thanks for the video!! Just installed my window and it worked like a charm with no fuss!
Thanks! I never understood how to insert a window with such a strain until I watched your video. Will now start working confidently on the windows of my Mercedes Benz W124 Station Wagon.
Hey this was great, I'm getting ready to replace mine and this will help a lot....Thanks!
I have watched this video a lot and it helped out so much for when i got to take my own rear windows out thank you for the videos over the years on xjs they really help
Great video man, I was clueless on how to go about this. Thanks!
The string bit was brilliant. You just saved my bacon. I owe you. Heading to get glass in a few for my Subi. Thanks.
I'm a jeep FAN! awesome tshirt! - great video bro!
Had to like and comment after having my glass out in 5 min after watching this. Screwdriver method for the win thanks mat👍
I almost skipped this clip because I assumed you smashed the window to take it out, or it broke while taking it out. Awesome how to as usual Matt.
Genius! Till the end.
True.
Wow! I just now came upon your video; Fantastic ! Thanks So Much for info.😊
Worked awesome on my xj thanks for the video it helped a ton!
Piece of cake! My two back windows shattered on an outing and I picked two up from a wrecker. All in all it took less than an hour. Easy peezy!
Thank you! Had to replace the seal on 01 Cherokee Sport (no thanks to thieves), and didn't have the foggiest. Used paracord, but in the end, I got it on there. If I should need anymore tips, I'll be sure to come back here!
Great video on the Jeep rear window. Good Audio & good video!! Thanks. Next do a Jeep XJ rear passenger window replacement (just behind driver side) - you do this good!
Very well explained and good filming on this one
😮OMG , looks so easy, i have broken side window in my Jeep Wrangler, I gonna try to do by myself, THANKS BRO 👍🏼
Excellent job. Thx. for the upload.
Hey Matt, what size string did you use for this? I really enjoy watching your videos.
Awesome video again. One question. What diameter rope/string would you suggest for best results?
Your video was very helpful, thank you very much!
awesome I got a deal on a 2door with 160K but both left windows were smashed with this tutorial I just installed the long side window! quarter window! THanks
Timeless. Thanks. I now have a rust free window sill.
Great video, exactly what I needed to know.
the easiest way to install glass is to attach a suction cup to the inside and pull on the suction cup and string
Great instructional on the window replacement. Not sure why you felt the need to break the glass, was it worth it? Using the string/rope is a great idea.
Should the same rule apply for a rear lift had on a cherokee?
would this be the same procedure I would use for a Grand Wagoneer?
what size string did you use. I got new ones and gunna attempt again soap up the whole seal.or just string?
That was fantastic can't wait to try it thanks again
does your info apply to 96 accord LX, quarter glass on body and not on door???
Matt it's the same for the rear passenger door windows right?
I have a 2 door with the vents on the back, side glass... is there anything else holding that in? or are they just part of the whole window? I want to swap in solid windows that I have but I'm worried there might be rivets or something in my way.
Great video ...i understand now how can get down my rear glass of my Jimny !
That was brilliant!!! Grate video.
Thanks! I have been putting this off for years on my old Mercedes wagon.
Nice job man. Thanks
Nice demonstration 😊
Thank you for this. I’m waiting for my new rubber. The back two are really bad and seriously need replacing.
muchas gracias amigo. desde Venezuela.. lo hice y salio todo bien..
Damn now that was satisfying and helpful! Much appreciated!
This videos is amazing!
Thanks for the great video
Niiiice! Love it! Excellent video.
after all that work on installing that window, why would you break it? good video and might just work for what I'm working on.
Using string, I've not seen that done before. Elegant.
man, that looks like a simple enough job. hopefully its similar for a 1998 4 door tahoe. thanks for tips!
It worked.
Thank you very much 👍
On the same rig, is it the exact same way for the windshield? Mine leaks water some ... 89 Montero
The success smile caught me off guard😄
Wow, great video man! I'm gonna give it a shot! What's the worst that could happen...LOL. Thanks!
Love the how to stuff, Doin' some DIY myself, the wife hit a tree at Jeep Jam. A JK with less than 10k miles on it and is already gettin' a second bumper and fender flare. Oh well, gives me somethin' to do I guess. Hopefully I can find the video and I'll post it on my channel.
this is so satisfying
Does anyone know if a rear window in a Jeep Cherokee would fit a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the same model year?
Great video thanks
Is the front windshield exactly the same?
Thanks for this!
Is it different if the window has chrome instead of just the black rubber?
could be.
Thanks bro you really help me
What if your glass is a bit older and doesn't have that rubber gasket on it already?
hi mat and internet folks.... my window from junk yard didn't come with rubber gasket. can i reuse that? i want to use the one from my broken window. does that pull on and off similarly?
Great Video! Is this the way I would do the glass on the gate?
Yes, it is
That was impressive!
What size string did you use!
Beautiful!!!
That's a pretty slick trick. That takes some general know how, and good hands. If you get stuck on a corner, you need some finesse to get it in place.
Hi how can I replace a Nissan Patrol y61 gu 1/4 rear glass window
One tip I did on my first window, I wrapped duct tape around both sides of the window, so if it started to fall, the was several strands of tape to catch it.
Would this work with a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was told they use epoxy and I would get it out but never get one back in? I have a 2004 Salvage Jeep I can try to get out and back in. Looks like a great idea for the WJ. Not many Jeep Qtr panel glass replacements on You Tube, only yours
If it doesn't have the rubber seal then its glued in.
Neat trick Matt
Thank you kind sir!!
Thank you!
Thank you!!
Very Informative :)
Nice job, I have to remove my front window glass do you have a video about that or will you make one?
Windshield?? If your replacing it hire a pro. If not, kick it out. If you mean the front door glass, I have a video on that yes.
Thank you for your answer. I ment the windshield. I thought I could remove it my self, but after I read your answer I understand that is impossible. The reason why I want to remove it is that I want to remove the vinnumber plate placed on the dashbord with two rivets. Do you think there is a better way to do this. Sorry for my spelling and english. I come from Denmark ;))
so instead of a screwdriver to help remove the gasket, what about those tire removers for bicycle wheels? would those work?
Derek Christo that would work perfect because I was a glazer for a few years and the tools we used are just like the plastic tire tools
Derek good fuckin idea man. Getting ready for this project and that likely wouldn’t have crossed my mind.
Very helpful
What size string?
I'll be honest, I had my doubts about how easy this would be. It was easier than I thought. The hardest part was yanking out all the trim to get the donor out at the junk yard. We had the window in in under 5 minutes.
Thanks really helped out I’m about to go the junk yard and do it
Have you ever replaced the quarter panel glass on a ZJ? Mine just spontaneously shattered a few days ago. The rubber surround appears to be different on the inside than the XJ in the video. Are the ZJ windows installed using adhesive? I could figure this out on my own, but I'd rather go into it with a little extra knowledge from a veteran like yourself. Btw, I love all of your videos. Thanks for them!
I assume its glued like a later model windshield
Pretty slick
Hey I was wondering if there's anything "bad" about removing the track bars on a jeep yj? Or would it be a positive thing to do to improve ride and articulation?
+Jake Husak not gonna improve ride but will improve articulation.
BleepinJeep Thanks a ton man. Love your channel. New jeep owner and your videos have helped me a lot.( Also raised in Tennessee but moved out to California in the last 2 months)
