You guys already know that we speak pretty highly of Cardo. Personally, we feel like they are the leader in motorcycle helmet Bluetooth and now with their most recent unit the Packtalk Edge, they might have just changed the game. We already love all of our Packtalk Bolds so in today's video let's review the brand new Packtalk Edge and see how much better it can get!

To anyone having issues with the initial grouping process like I did, make sure all the units in the group have been updated to a semi recent software version and (this came straight from the cardo support rep I spoke to) the packtalk edge is set up in a way that it must be the group admin. So if your group's preexisting group has any other device (freecom, packtalk bold, slim, etc) as admin, whoever is using the edge will have to be the one to create a new group and add everyone else. Hopefully that saves someone a headache.
I think that was fixed in firmware 2.7?
Ive had 2 Cardo Packtalk slimâs since 2019. They are still going strong even 20,000 miles later. Through heat, and more rain than ever imagined. Only looking at upgrading for newer technology and ability to swap one unit to multiple helmets. Cardo has definitely proven itself to both my friends and myself time and time again.
Completely agree. I have my original Packtalk (before the bold) and it still performs and never has given me any trouble. I've worn out the harness wire before anything, and support sent me another.
I'm getting the edge mainly for the OTA update and to keep supporting the company's development. They are unmatched in this department and I tell everyone about it just as the both of you do
Love my new Edge! Our group and I all agree itâs a big upgrade over our previous bolds in all categories. Better noise cancellation, better sound, connectivity, everything đ
I just picked up one of theseâŠand after figuring out the voice commandsâŠI can say I really like it. Definitely a good purchase.
OC: Deathscythe ftw.
I've been using the Spirit I won from you guys every ride since it showed up. Even as their "budget" option it's become invaluable. I'll be looking at the big boy options when it comes time to add more people to comms.
Thanks guys â
Guys thanks for the walk through. I bought and edge for the very first helmet Bluetooth and it is awesome tech. Thanks for the heads up to some great tech.
Our Packtalk Edge Duo arrived last week, and it's unbelievable that we rode without them!
OC: Tallgeese gets my vote
Iâve had the Freecom 4 with JBL speakers for about 1 1/2 seasons and I love it. Phone calls are crystal clear, music sounds great and no issues with hearing either while wearing earplugs. Cardo is worth the hype in my opinion.
Greetings from Singapore. You guys forgot to mention the voice recognition and it is absolute flawless!
How worth it is upgrading to the 45mm speakers?
I currently have the packtalk black that comes with the 45mm speakers but this new edge does not.
I'm just wondering if it's worth getting the 45mm speakers straight off or if the 40mm stock ones would be good enough?
Hopefully you guys can help.
Iâve had my packtalk bold for 3 seasons now and itâs been nothing short of amazing, which makes it so hard to justify getting an Edge but I want one soooo bad
A wise man once told me... if someone makes a product you love (a game in that particular instance) pay for it so they can keep the game you love alive..
Go on and grab the Edge!
If you've rode with a group of 3+ riders can all of you simultaneously talk and listen to music? I had the freecom and if we had more than 2 ppl someone couldn't listen to music.
@@tmontana213 You probably don't need this answer anymore, but I believe the freecoms work with only bluetooth, meaning one bluetooth connection is used on your phone for music, and one for conecting with someone else, meaning someone had to be the middle man and connect to two other people and thus couldn't listen to music? the bold and edge work with the mesh system, which is a system that can connect 16 (or more, not sure) people with it's own system and not bluetooth, meaning you can be in the group and talk to people, but still have your bluetooth connection with the phone and listen to music. The bold is better for grouprides, while the freecom is more affordable while still being able to talk to people (be it via bluetooth) and/or listen to music. Correct me if I'm wrong tho
@@kokogaming8719 youâre right. I found out the hard way lol. Spent alot of money
Just switched from the bold black, and I can tell you the sound is about 20% louder at max volume and the voice control works 10x better than the bold black did when you have your visor open. I think the price is worth the upgrades. Oh and also, the speaker size is I believe a few millimeters smaller on the edge speakers so I think in general they are more comfortable on my ears for all day riding.
I picked up the cardo freecom 2+ couple years back and I still been using it mainly because I haven't got a new helmet and it still works and I don't ride with anybody with com gear yet
Just order these with the 45 mm upgrade... cant wait for them :)
I like that itâs a lower profile than the Bold. Most of the wind noise I hear comes from the drag presented by having it mounted to the side of my helmet. My Bold is only a year old so unless it dies on me Iâll keep running it for a while. Iâm probably one or two firmware updates behind because of the hassle of connecting it to a computer since I almost never use my laptop.
Or until I upgrade from my RF-1200 to the Arai Regent-X Iâve been eyeing
Edit: a Gundam edition would force my hand into upgrading instantly
Thank you for this video! I'm using Edge and love to have an Atlas soon. Earlier, I'm worried about the mount to "get in" the Atlas look weird or not, but now I can see it fits okie with the Atlas. â€ïž
beau is such a likeable dude haha. Sold me on this cardo man
Definitely going to upgrade to the Edge. The magnetic air mount is enough for me alone.
I upgraded too! Bought this as my first intercom.đ
You forgot the voice recognition improvements. Voice commands are flawless.
I've had a Packtalk Slim for a while now. It's been great. Even lived through a pretty bad accident (but the buttons seem a little less responsive now). This will probably be my next Cardo when (if) my Slim dies.
I hav lots of issues with the app disconnect from the unit and the mic stop working. I have to delete all pairings on my iPhone and start from scratch again. Unit runs firmware 2.6. Hope Cardo fix the problem soon.
OC: if thereâs gonna be a Gundam collab, itâs gotta be OG Gundam. Char and Amuro colors.
We just bought the edge and it are first one how do we set mine the rider and the wife's up as passenger? Or do I show her as a rider? And are main helmets are 3/4 so should upgrade to the 45 speakers?
The extra standby time probably comes from upgrading to Bluetooth 5.2 which is much more energy efficient. That explains why the talk time is the same but standby is increased.
I currently have the freecom4+ but im looking at the packtalk edge
I started off with the Sena 20s and moved on to the 50s. I sold those and purchased the Packtalk bold a couple of years ago and have been using it since. Both 50s and Bold have their pros and cons but I prefer my Bold unit over the Senaâs Iâve owned.
Cool. Why do you find the Bold better than the 50s?
I did the same change
New to Cardo Edge have 2 been great to have music & phone the speakers are great!
While it work with han or gmrs radio via Bluetooth or 3.5 mm jack?
Hi Guys. Recently took our Interphone Helmet intercoms off as they are not what we need. Replaced with a Duo Packtalk Edge. Great solo but when I talk to my pillion i can hear her out of the helmet before through the intercom speakers, about 2second delay. Does anyone know if its because of a device error or something I have done wrong during the setup! Any feedback will be apprieciated. Software in the UK is version 3.0 and we have that on both units.
Just bought one. Is there any way to adjust bass , treble?
My Freecom4 has a feature that shuts off intercom if nobody speaks for about 30 seconds, is it the same with the edge? It's a pain in the ass to have to call intercom over and over and takes away from the safety aspect of being able to talk if something happens.
I have a pair of freecom 2. I don't ever ride with anyone else, but I hate riding without one on my helmet now.
They seem so bulletproof, that I don't expect them to wear out for a long time. We will take something major for me to switch at this point.
I researched a lot on cardo vs sena and thereâs very little quality difference. Most people said to get what your buddy has. Lol thatâs why I picked cardo. My buddy had a bold black and I picked up an edge. Love it! Iâve been riding since 1986 with no communication, what took me so long? This is a game changer for group rides
I literally just bought the bold black. I wish I knew this a little bit earlier
, I pressed the wheel round button down like the instructions told me and I still can't turn this Bluetooth device off. Please tell me how please
My question is can the magnet hold on an off-trail snowmobile through trees and branches so as not to lose it?
Paid advertising.
I have the pack talk one because I have no friends but I have to say I love it.
Can you show me how to connect with my bmw gsa 2021 what order do I connect all three , etc , having loads of problems, re he cardo turn music up , etc doesnât work , music only works on the tft if you start the music on the phone , yesterday everything was working until I wanted to make a phone call , I connected to my wife but no sound , Iâm using the new edge , Iâve been with Sena for years , but this sounded amazing , if only it worked as they say , nobody at cardo support ever returns your emails etc . Sena alway answered your call for help and sorted things out . Carl uk
I just got my Edge the other day and HOLY CRAP it's loud. I own a HD with some very loud pipes and even with earbuds I had to turn them up most if not all the way up to be able to hear over the engine and they would over time back out of my ears and that sucks during a ride. I had to turn the unit DOWN lol that was a first! Very clear sound even over the exhaust notes! I haven't got to try out the intercom yet... Still trying to get my group of friends to even wear helmets. I refuse to ride without one I am hoping it will rub off on them to wear one!
Does your Edge have issues with the DMC mode and joining multiple devices? Mine no longer has the join button and randomly wonât add other cardos to its group
You have to be the leader of the group when you have an Cardo Edge
Adding to an already great video...the new upgraded bluetooth with the Edge is significantly better than previous Pack Talk units. The clarity for voice but particularly audio is worth the upgrade. The music is now cleaner and more dynamic.
are you able to listen to music while connected to a group chat? how does that transition work.
Does anyone know if the Packtalk Edge will connect to a Sena group?
Finally usb c. My slim. Like many other's slims. Has gotten the charging port damaged. So might get this
I got one a few weeks ago and itâs been great. Iâve never had a Bluetooth device on my helmet so decided to just get the Edge since itâs the newest. The volume knob isnât too bad after getting used to it. Otherwise the other buttons are just fine to use once you have muscle memory of where they are while riding.
My one issue is that my ear space shrunk in my Arai Regent once they were installed so now I have to adjust my ears every time I put the helmet on and even then itâs not perfect.
Either way, Iâd still recommend it.
I have the same issue with my Arai rx-q, itâs not that huge of an issue once I get going but long times it gets my ears hurting
Try plugging headphones in. Good noise blocking headphones will protect your ears and make the sound way better. Leeparks has a pair that's pretty much just earplugs but with sound.
@@cherryHvH yeah itâs weird considering Arai have special pockets for speakers so I didnât expect it to really impact ear space as much as it did.
@@davidross5860 the convenience of the Bluetooth speakers are so nice though!
@@ChaseLancaster I still use a cardo I just plug headphones into it. You still get voice commands etc it's just better as far as sound environment imo. Only takes a couple seconds extra to pop them in.
OC: I'm in on a Bandai in 00 raiser colors!
I've been using Sena for years, and the ones since the Mesh jump have SUCKED! Nothing but problems with them. Pretty sure I'm swapping my wife and I to Cardo.
I say 00 Qan[T] instead, but they are basically the same colors. It's the Gundam I'd always hoped for.
How will the magnets hold up to 180mph?
Asking for a friend. đ
Y'all forgot to mention the voice commands and how awesome it is!! Virtually hands free!!
Does anyone know if you can use the cardo packtalk edge whilst charging on the bike ?
OC: An Evangelion collab would be sweet. I'd also take Bandai for sure
Purchased edge recently, 120km/h = one big sound glitch. Send them on warranty and riding without set :)
Yeah there great guy's thanks got get oneđđđŻ
If you've rode with a group of 3+ riders can all of you simultaneously talk and listen to music? I had the freecom and if we had more than 2 ppl someone couldn't listen to music.
Yes. You can listen to your own music or, share your music over the DMC
#OC Did you not see the Live On Two Wheels edition I put in the Quickshifter segment!?!? That's the one!
Actually talking about reliability I own the packtalk slim and I barely was riding over the 3 years I owned it and now mine wonât turn on. Soo i definitely wouldnât recommend buying the slim model. But honestly Iâm probably going to buy the edge now. đ€·ââïžđ
OC: I don't ride with groups, so I would be fine with a Spirit HD. And my friends that I would ride with, don't use comms, just hand signals. If I was in a group that used comms, Edge all the way, not even a second thought.
How do I turn this thing off. very frustrating
I've used a Cardo packtalk bold, freecom 4, freecom 1, and a cheapo Lexin off of Amazon. The biggest difference I noticed was sound clarity both at speed and at rest, and the overall fit and finish. You get what you pay for still stands true even with Bluetooth units. You can absolutely get by with the cheaper units, it just won't necessarily have the same quality of build or quality of sound.
If you've rode with a group of 3+ riders can all of you simultaneously talk and listen to music? I had the freecom and if we had more than 2 ppl someone couldn't listen to music.
@@tmontana213 yah never had any issues. I think the most we ever got was 7 or 8 with the bold
i found can't connect to WhatsApp microphone .
I think you guys helped me to spare dollars for the Edge. Although, its not cheap, my HJC 90S Carbon was 500.00 shipped, this thing is 360.00 now and its crazy, but i am guessing, you pay for quality and a company with years of history in the com business. I was not sure if to get the Sena 20B which is built for the HJC and really looks great and clean, but I hear that the speakers on the Sena are not that good quality.
If you more to music, I think you should get Sena since Harman is better than JBL. There is a compare video of Edge and 50s. You should take a look at it. But if you more to intercom, Edge is better!
JBL is a subsidiary of Harman Kardan
đ€ got buy one of these đ
I would love to see a green Kawasaki edge.
Clipping the mic to your hat, well.. makes you look like a dofus. Clip of to your shirt đ
The big questions is Packtalk bold for 288 +/- or the edge for like 335?
Having both, Edge hands down.
@@taybeltz sound difference or just overall fit and finish with the nicer mounting?
@@602jesse massive step up in clarity, volume, overall sound quality and noise cancellation.
@@taybeltz they need to push out a software update so the edge can join older packtalk groups without an edge hosting it
@@392Joel whatâs the problem with the Edge hosting it? It only has to happen once.
It dont like linking to my iphone :(
How bold of you to assume I have 14 buddies đ€Ł
I'm PO because ridding with my wife. I get static. Not on phone calls, not listening to music but when we talk, static and it's not my Freecom x4, it's my wife's Black Bold. I'm reinstalled it all and update and all the things you can imagine and it keeps doing it. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I am switching to an Edge from another brand
The real question, is it enough of an upgrade to justify swapping out your old Packtalk Bold?
Upgrade in every category. My group and I all agree on that đ
@@taybeltz but is is enough of an upgrade to justify the cost of replacing one?
@@cmelochick thatâs your call but if itâs worth have better quality, louder, cleaner sound quality, voice commands that work every time, better noise cancelation during intercom and phone calls, then yes.
@@taybeltz I've never had a problem with a voice commands in my packtalk bold, you can have the clearest audio in the world, but if you're still adding in wind noise, it's not going to sound perfect. I need a battery that lasts significantly longer than the bold with a signal that is truly longer range and not affected by a couple trees
@@cmelochick itâs a completely new chipset where the bold was running an outdated set of hardware. The edge is more efficient and the battery life is improved. Range is noticeably longer. Wind noise is gone compared to the bold. Any shortcomings of the bold seemed to have been resolved with the Edge.
I don't think I've EVER had a bluetooth comm and thought to myself, "damn, I wish this volume dial was harder to rotate."
Who's "accidentally" hitting the jog wheel/dials on these things?
I would prefer a bigger unit with a more powerful battery. Something that would last 12 hours of full use and not just for the weekend coffee run.
BT5 consumes less power explaining the higher talk / standby time for Edge. Bold is still using BT4
The Edge is great BUT IT HAS A HUGE FLAW. It cannot join an existing group?!?! the app doesn't allow it. So the newer Edge will only connect to the Bold units if IT is the master/admin to the group. This has made it such a pain in the ass in a group! And what if theres several Edge units? they cant join another Edge's group. It's a massive oversight Cardo need to patch that out ASAP
Can I talk to my wife if I had 2 of them even though she's listening to music? I can't with another brand..
Wish Cardo came out with a camera unit. Tired of the connection problems with SENA. Nothing but upgraded static with that shit products
Iâm hearing thereâs a major bug in the Edge with pairing other Cardo communicators. In order for the edge to use dmc with older units like the bold with a bunch of other riders, you MUST host the group. It wonât allow an edge user to just join an already active group. This sounds like a big issue. People donât have time to recreate whole new groups when they show up. It should just be able to work seamlessly with older units for $400âŠâŠâŠ..
Itâs not a bug, they designed the software like that so people will get annoyed and want to upgrade. Might work the opposite for them if they donât push out a software update so that they donât have to host it they might lose sales from people not wanting to upgrade because the hassle
@@392Joel itâs stupid because the unit has capability to use both versions of DMC. But yea that would make sense, itâs that greedy attitude with companies though that quickly turn people off of their brand though.
it works now, with a firmware upgrade. we have a buddy who rides with us who still uses an edge and me and him connect just fine now
There is really nothing special about the magnets. All they do is guide the unit on to the connection pad and then they are held there by two clips. To remove the unit you must move the unit forward to disengage the clips. It is actually the clips that hold the unit onto the pad, not the magnets. Think about the SW Motek Evo tank bags. Same principle the magnets only guide them onto the locking mechanism. The clips actually hold the bag on to the tank until you release themâŠ
OC. Beau you know Chase has a bad backâŠYou canât jump on it.. itâs bad enough he has to carry the whole showâŠ
The only problem here is once you admit to being paid by a company, any view you express is pretty much void, I'm not saying that you don't actually think they are great, but you simply can't trust anyone who has a vested interest in something đ€·đ»ââïž
There's no real world difference between 40-45mm drivers. You pay waaaay more for an equalizer. Dont do it. Just fit them better to your ears.
Colab with Indian!
I was a dumbass and didn't do my research and bought the Sena 10C Pro when they first came out. First unit died just before the warranty ran out so they sent me a new unit which took a $hit just out of warranty. Screw Sena! A Cardo unit is in my future.
Let's Go Brandon!
What these videos don't often tell you is that the buttons are STRANGE combinations of easter egg cheatcodes to pair up to non DMC units, answer vs ignore a call, share music, private chat, etc- no amounts of boop-beeps and bops make using the unit self explanetory and their included pocket cheat sheet manual is barely useful. Adjusting and dialing in audio is odd and also not self explanatory. I consider myself QUITE the technological guru that can figure out all the things without reading the manual but if you're one that tries not to depend on a phone app to configure and set up a motorcycle accessory, the user experience of these get an F.
I am disappointed with Cardo's customer service. I sent an email and have not received a response in over a week., Additionally, I called and hung up after over one hour and twenty minutes without anyone picking up the line. That's not customer service. Not a happy camper!!!!!!! Has anyone else had an similar experience with attempting to contact Cardo?
Given how cheap it is to build Bluetooth devices, these Cardo and Sena intercoms are an absolute rip-off in my opinion. I bought the cheapo bts2 and it outlasted my friends Sena, and in most cases I don't use it at all so no point spending big money on one!
I felt that way until a friend gave me a Cardo packtalk slim. It's really a game changer. After it's set up, works perfectly. Talking to friends is automatic. It's really worth the money. And yes I'm in the market for a second one despite getting one for a gift.
Yeah thatâs about as stupid a comment Iâve seen all year. So congrats on that lol.
Obviously you have no need for one, so why are you even making a comment about how expensive it is? Youâve never even use this item, so again, who are you to make a comment about something that youâve never even used?
@@chrisronin4421 even if I never used one, I can still point out the fact that cardo and Sena are over 1000% more expensive than a cheaper product that does exactly the same thing, if not better.
Does the cheap one have 3 year warranty? Peace of mind is what we buying. Knowing we have that quality communicator. Iykyk
