I'm pleased that this is allowed in competition. They should allow the same for classical and romantic cello repertoire. Music is all that matters. Conventions be damned. This is beautiful.
I played double bass as a child and can attest to the fact that it takes great finger strength to play the bass, much less a piece mainly in that position (close to the bridge). Bravo!!
Esses improvisos aí cortam a vibe toda...
Impressive playing - hats off! Please help me understand something: Why would you play this on a double bass in E minor - a whole step HIGHER, in actual pitch, than what you get playing the piece on a cello in the original D minor? Playing the piece on a double bass would make sense if you made use of the lower range of that instrument. It would create a whole new and very attractive sonority.
It's because her bass is in solo tuning (F#-B-E-A). She's playing it D minor (because of the fingerings it's best to stay in the original tonality and octave) on the fingerboard but it sounds in E minor because of the tuning. Solo strings are used because they project more and require less strength to use. Hope that's more clear for you!
I'm speechless. As a double bass player myself, I'm very well aware of the difficulties of this piece. This girl is totally amazing.
The emotional side of this suite is splendidly rendered with the double bass. Very beautiful version.
I'm a cellist. This looks a lot harder on double bass than it does on cello. Amazing playing.

In allemanda 3 bars to the end not b flat (Mark's mistake)
Is their surname Bernat or Cernat? The video and the caption don't match.
Good intonation but the bow is not always parallel to the floor…still pretty good…:/)
