How is it risky? Have any of you ever caught one? I use it all the time in sparring, mma and kickboxing and what people do if they see it, is step back and then we continue. If you can't use a technique it doesn't mean people who have trained it a lot and understand the timing can't throw it either.

Front kick is for pushing people, low kick is for chopping them down like a tree, and side kick is for punishing them when they back off and try to get a run at you. But what’s most important is that you practice these techniques during sparring or a tournament fight so that you can get a flow going.

  • @angrychicken3890

Side kick is what I would go with. I played around with it and even though I’m not the best at it and never really practice it, but can do it. It’s just as fast as a jab when tested with a friend from a standing position. Front kick/push kick, don’t know if they are considered the same thing but different names, just doesn’t feel are powerful or fast for me. Maybe it has to do with it being able to prop yourself to the side and kick than it is to raise your leg up and thrust.

IMO, only folks whom train significantly with kicking should even consider kicking in 'street' conditions. Kick speed, understanding distance, and surprise are all essential elements that come from practice/repetition. I would trend towards front or side kicks; round kicks are usually 'telegraphed' (from back foot or an elongated chamber). Most people fight in a linear fashion making a side kick particularly devastating when coupled with appropriate timing (opponent is moving towards you).

Front kick, round kick, and the side kick would all work on a street fight. You can all throw them low, and they are not as risky as a hook kick or a spin kick. The front kick a short but strong strike, the side kick is a powerful kick or can create distance, and the round kick can swipe someone’s legs and do some good damage to the ribs. A back kick or a spinning back kick can end a fight but the reason you shouldn’t throw it is because for a split second you can’t see your target and you can miss. Or lose your balance.

  • @JoshuaEFinley

The best one and only knockout kick I've ever connected with is the upward front kick in my opinion.
You do a 1-2 combo punch then throw up a guard while leaping backwards, leaning forwards on your backfoot, and kicking up to the jaw as your oponent moves in to strike.
You can throw in a hook feignt to distract them, keeping them looking up, as you strike from below.
Make sure you have good strong knees or you will hurt yourself. You need to leap backwards like 2-4 feet varrying on the mobility of your opponent.
It even works on people who love takedowns.
It's a crane style technique. Kung fu is very useful if you mix it with other martial arts.

people who have train a long time have insane sense of balance when kicking. I don't understand why people think it doesn't work in real fight on the streets. a middle kick from someone that trained years would break an untrained guy's rib easy. a back kick full powered could send someoen to the er with a lot of damage. no don't do head kicks I got in trouble for that... I thought the guy wasn't gonna wake up. low kick of a trained guy vs untrained target is easy knee dislocation if you hit hard enough on the right spot.

Where can I get that hoodie it's amazing?
The low kick seems like a good option if you do it hard enough you might make them fall and let you run away

only use back kick if they are moving towards you. (like throwing a jab or reverse punch) if they are standing still, they can move out of the way and attack you from behind.

Id much rather go for a teep to the thigh or knee or a low kick, since the possibility of getting your legs caught is a higher possibility for a front kick
