I consider it a foul if one player managed to attack the opponent with the cue stick. I used to work on a pool hall and fights sometimes happen
its not
ha.. "i declare myself the winner as you have breached the spirit of the game"... *all hell breaks lose* >_>
Yeah, that’s what the fat end of the cue is for in Scotland
thanks man for the rules it helped me a lot
Thanks! Glad you found it useful : )
Love that table, plenty of room on the raised for your bridge hand. Nice tight pockets too. Never played English pool but played a lot of snooker before on a 10 footer
English pool is a lot closer to snooker. Using the same napped cloth too which slows the balls down and the tighter pockets. Not to mention smaller balls.
What size are the object balls? American pool is 2 1/4". Some tables here have tight pockets though. Most Olhausen tables have tight v shaped corner pockets.
English balls are 2" and the cue is normally slightly smaller than that. The pockets on an English table are rounded like a snooker table so if you aren't accurate the ball will simply bounce out. On american tables it can hit the side of the pocket and due to the sharp cut will just bounce in.
Yeah we play with 12-14mm shafts. Now them pockets on Olhausen tables are tough you got to be dead on or it hang. Plus they are deep so it's almost impossible to go rail first and hit on sitting in the pocket.
Sounds like English pockets.
If you spill your pint on the table, do you try and soak it up with your opponents socks.
Do you get ball in hand in English pool?
Hi good video, what is the D for on a pool table, I have a disagreement with someone because he thinks that if there is a fault the white should always go to the D and not the baulk line?
If you interfere with the game at my local pub you are dealt with !
Taken around the back for some heavy kissing?
@@SethMcFartlane No the cue gets rammed in deep
You didn’t explain the two shots thing ? What does that mean exactly
What about two shots carry?
Yh that is still a rule
If you don't understand buy yellow and red ball to practice
In reality a lot of these rules would never be followed. Can you imagine the ensuing carnage if (after a few drinks on a night out) you had to replace balls back to their original position?
Imagine this: a ball close to the pocket ends up going in without external influence. The table in question is £1 a game. So not only do you have to spend more money getting a single ball back into play you also have to trust that the person placing the ball back isn't completely wrecked by alcohol.
When I play with friends and the above example occurs we usually just play on and consider that ball potted legally. No foul awarded. It's just easier and simpler that way.
This isn't the only example, but going over each one would be far too time consuming. Every region has it's own rules, and subsequently each pub then has it's own spin on them, and then each individual player. It's impossible to state a set of rules for such a varied game.
But that's what makes it so fun. =)
This video shows two / three different ways to setup the triangle.
Confused
Q1 - 2 shots on the black?
Q2 - Can you hit or pot a players ball on your first shot?
Q3 - I thought you could move the white ball behind the line one any foul if you wanted.
If I pocket the number 8 ball and the end but the white ball goes in too, do I lose the game?
+mutsa rocky yes
Not only you will lose the game, you will _also_ lose the money you wagered

Hi I have the following question, I had one ball remaining on the table while my opponent was on the black ball, I managed to snooker my opponent in a way that he could not hit the black without making a fault and by doing so he would pot the black as it was really close to the pot, the guy said it is tie, but I think I won the game? Could you please explain the rule in this case?
If he potted the black on a foul, he loses.
Forgetting about the rule about if the opponent puts all of their balls but you haven't put any of yours, you have to streak around the table
That isnt a rule but ok then
Yeah, mate! I've had to show my arse before when I've been 8 balled. But never made anyone else do it when I've 8 balled them!.... Cus why the fuck do I wanna see a blokes arse? If I 8 balled a lady though......
Wow that table is in need of some TLC
in the game of eight ball
You forgot one on the black if you pot the white when you are playing the black you lose the frame
can you tell me what is the size of the pool table plzz respond
English pool tables are 6 foot by 3. Playing surface, not overall dimensions.
Can someone explain the rule here for English Pool when it comes to the moment of creating a snooker shot? Can a player make a slow push shot to snooker-ed his opponent??? Is it a legal shot?
No, that would be a foul. Any shot made needs to have any ball contact any cushion. Roll-ups are forbidden and are punished by a standard foul.
What I want to know is:
In english pool world rules if a player on the black which is over the pocket but unable to pot it because an opponents ball is covering the ball so would not be able to put the black without fouling in the process therefore losing the frame.
They purposely foul as they cannot go for the black at this point so you have 2 shots. You have say 4 balls left but also purposely fould on your 2nd shot as you also cant finish because your last ball is covering the black over the pocket which means you will likely pot
Basically, you're fucked. You need to get two shots and use your first shot to get your ball out from where the black is without potting the black. Then dish up.
I have a question: Today I was watching 2 people play pool, during the break the white jumped off the table hit a mans arm (the guy who racked the balls) and then flew back on the table. The guy whose arm hit the ball thought it was a foul by the person who broke off and picked the white up. Nobody knew the rules, I thought it wasn't a foul but could see both sides. What's correct?
+Steve Ruddick From most break offs the white leaves the bed and moves around, if another player is too close to the table then is it still a foul? If it is then what's stopping a player from deliberately standing close to a table and looking for contact to gain a foul.
Its a foul the cue ball left the came of the table and over the cushions
Australian pub rules are very different
Is it a moveable foul if the player misses their ball but leaves the cue ball in a snooker position.
BushManRon no, it’s a free ball
3:44
Pubs rules very to each pub, I was once in a pub where the last potted a colour is the pocket you must pot the black. Also back table is bullshit.
is it a foul if cue ball hits the rail then the intended ball but the intended ball does NOT hit the rail nor does it go in a pocket
Samuel Procaccini that's not a fail in EPA rules happens all the time in my league
If the cue ball hits the rail again after hitting the object ball then it’s all good
Totally missed the most important argument in all pubs... 1. Two shot carry on yes or no? 2. Name the pocket on the black? 3. Do you get two shots on the black when a foul is made...
What happens if say I'm on reds and I pot it but then pot the white? What happens to the red? Does it come back on the table and if so, where? Or does it just stay potted?
Its potted but your opponent gets two shots
No the red stays in the table the other player get two shots
Also depends on the rules if its world rules and you say red and pot the red and the white the other player can still chooseif they red or yellow
3:12 🤣 😂
Every pub has different rules.. seem some real strange ones
Very true, mate. I play in a local league and know the rules inside-out. But far too often, in the pub, you get people who think they can play the game and call the "one shot on the black" rule. "You can only play down the table after a foul" rule. They play in to a touching ball and it's not a foul rule. They hit their ball and don't hit a cushion and say "why the fuck is that a foul" rule. And most of all, you pot their ball that may or may not be covering a pocket (giving them 2 shots), and they go mad, calling you a cheat!.... Playing against drunk men who don't know EPL World Rules.... Recipe for disaster! There's gonna be a rumble! Even if there's no money on it!
Massive improvement on "Old Rules", though! A League match in a pub could actually go on to the next night.
After watching this video I told someone that you are allowed to hit backwards from the baulk line when the white goes in off, he said no we are playing ghetto rules lol so you really can't win.
I want to known when my opponent sink the black ball by his hand, what will happen I will win or committed as a foul
You win it's called a deliberate foul. This also counts if they deliberately dont hit there ball for whatever reason.
@@RonOutdoors In this instance, deliberately potting the black with his hand is loss of frame. But a player can intentionally play an opponents ball at any time during a frame with a penalty of two shots. (EPL World Rules).
what happens if a player fouls before they can play there free stroke
If you have two shots and you foul on the first, you don't take your second shot and two shots to the other player, depending on what foul you did
@@Matty-e8r if you pot on your first shot out of the two, does it carry over or is it just back to the standard one shot?
Ah so if a pool falls into the pocket with no interference your supposed to replace it only problem with that at pubs the balls go back into the holder....
In pubs it is a fool if i was reds and a yellow droped in on its own without me doing anything its a foul at least in my country that's how it is
These rules are the same for 8 ball which is in America
What happens if a player misses all the balls but leaves the other player snookered?
Other player would get two shots and the first shot is free
some of these rules are incorrect
It was recorded before the 2014 changes, that may be it? I just started to try and understand this (I've just played American 8 and 9 ball befire) so I may be wrong.
Which one
@@ellisgreen2005 The one I noticed was.... If you pot ball/s of one colour from the break, you're not stuck with that colour. You can elect to play the other colour but you have to pot one or else you leave an "open table".
@@philrogers4535 yes that is a rule
I thought it was also a loss of frame if even after potting all of your balls you pot the eight ball and que ball on the same turn
Joseph Leatherbarrow that is correct along with if you pot a colour on the break you are allowed to switch colours but you have to pot it if you do not pot it the frame goes back to open table, and if your opponent misses a shot you are allowed to move the cue ball but it has to be behind the baulk line
Do the bar owners favour - don’t flip the coin on the table - it cuts cuts the fibre of the cloth and eventually will lead to a torn cloth $$$ to repair
wow these rules are not all correct
You didn't even set the balls up right
Its a good job this video is 6 years old.....that table looks bloody awful!!! The black is put donw and move half way across the table lol!! Although I have played on a couple of tables like that.......and thats in the league lol!!
oh yea great logic the ball is going to return to the table really so it is going to grow wings and fly back are you f*cking kidding me?
A ball can leave the surface of the table and return back to the surface its called a jump shot you fool
@@shredder9536 "you fool" i love it
These rules are no longer relevant
This is snooker
No it’s blackball the uk version of 8 ball
I think you’ve omitted one more movable foul. Often there is a situation where the opponent has fouled and has ended up snookering you. If that happens then we either have to move the white OR we can take a free ball from the position we are in as one of our two shots. There is also no mention of two shots and whether they are carried ; or whether it is one or two shots on the black when a foul has been awarded
