For the people who claim Metalcore isn’t metal.
First Wave Metalcore or “Metallic Hardcore” is a pure fusion of Hardcore Punk and Metal. FWMC would include bands like Converge, Earth Crisis, Integrity, and Starkweather.
These earlier bands were harder, heavier, and had more edge to them. At this point there wasn’t an emphasis on breakdowns and clean singing. I contend that this era of Metalcore was not only the best but is closer to what the genre should have and could have been.
Then, the Emos attacked.
Emo is a style of Punk. The scene/emo style Metalcore is after the 2000s. There was more of an emphasis on the pop aspect as well as breakdowns and more open note strumming. Bands like Attack Attack come to mind.
So, I consider Metalcore to be Metal but it really depends on whether you’re talking about Metallic Hardcore or Emo Influenced Metalcore.
Modern Metalcore bands that keep the Metallic side alive would be As I Lay Dying, Early Parkway Drive, Killswitch Engage, Early All That Remains, and Bleeding Through.
Hope this helps. I’ve done a lot of reading and research and found that Metalcore and Hardcore are very interesting. Their history is expansive and spiderwebs into many different directions.

The Surrealist Old metalcore was the best but i think that early Converge was Hardcore Punk,Mathcore,Grindcore

Ehm... Architects? Maybe they don't deserve the 1st place in this list, but they deserve a spot. They definetly became genre defining band since 2014. Their sound prety much differs from all that metalcore bands usually offer.
They're not the defining band of metalcore. Don't get me wrong I really love Architects but I think Parkway Drive would fit better as the defining band of metalcore. At the end it does not really matter because I love both bands. But Architects really deserved a spot on this list
Agreed, leaving them off along with Converge is fucking awful. I can accept Dillinger not being on if they make a mathcore list at some point. Architects and Converge need to be on that list too.

Killswitch is like groove metalcore. the guitar work is awesome but it is like its own style
I remember when he replaced Jesse Leach and The End Of Heartache dropped. There was quite a division back then about who everyone preferred. I don’t keep up with forums and such anymore, so I don’t know if people still feel that way, but I remember a lot of strong feelings about it.
I couldn't agree more with the top 5.
BFMV, Trivium, A7X, As I Lay Dying, and Killswitch. Those 5 defined the genre more than anyone else. BFMV and Kilswitch had the melodic side, A7X and Trivium had the arena anthem metal sound, and then everyone knows of the legendary darker riffs of As I Lay Dying. Combine the sounds of all 5 of these bands and you'll hear some modern metal in there.
BFMV and A7X are steaming piles of crap. Trivium are great. KSE are awesome, but AILD are better.
Architects need to be on this list. All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is a masterpiece.
They must to be in the plase of Bring Me The Horizon. BMTH is shit, Architects is good.

I like metalcore except when it starts it's blast beat drums and excessive double time, Killswitch know when to use it and don't over do it. Trivium used it well when I listened to them. Bullet for my valentine used it great and not excessively

@@ShiprektBones I would have to disagree, listen to August Burns Reds new album and see if you change your mind. I was lucky to see one of three shows on the Killswitch tour with ABR before everything got shutdown and while Killswitch is great, they just don't hold a candle to August Burns Red live. ABR brings so much more energy and the stage presence is unreal compared to Killswitch.
ABR got boring after like 4 albums that all sound the exact same... I actually love the bands that change. Like I love BMTH's new stuff, just cause it is different. As good as Melodic Metalcore is, I'm really disappointed that there was no earlier bands like Converge, Earth Crisis or Zao

Trivium as always been Trivium. Even if their music changed a lot, we hear Trivium. Not like All That Remains, that turned to something else. A7X became Metallica 2.
