Brilliant bosskey sir; and thanks to Mr sree Iyer for bringing this episode.. many nuggets came out which are quite revealing..as Mr Iyer pointed out isaignani has got the knack of tuning ragas , which are known for pathos, sympathy etc. like ragam chakravakam, which emotes feelings like devotion .. he has used that in superb racy nos like vanithamani manamogini in Vikram, vaanile thenilaa in kaaki chattai etc ..hats off to isaignani

In addition to what you spoke about Sadma, hey zindagi song.. let me remind you that... In Sadma (1983), it was "Hey Zindagi.." (KamalHasan). In tamil version for movie Thambikku Endha Ooru (1984), it was "..en vazhvile varum anbe va (Rajinikanth), and again in hindi latest, it was "hey zindagi.." (Shahrukh Khan) for movie Dear Zindagi (2016). If you notice, India's topmost best heroes .... Kamal Hasan, Rajinikanth and Shahrukh Khan had used the same tune for their films, and all versions of this song was a superhit. Never will this happen again. This in fact is a miracle. Three different heroes and one song.. This is phenomenal..!!

Sir, if I'm right even "then sindhudhe vaanam" song was actually composed by Ilayaraja. I saw this in an interview where he was praising Kannadasan for writing the lyrics for this compelex and exquisite tune in a matter of seconds.
It is G.K.Venkatesh sir's song. Raja sir was working as an assistant under GKV sir.

I think Raaja avarhal had mentioned Sri Lakshminarayana Iyer was one of his first gurus (father of LVaidyanathan and LSubramaniam).

One of the famous song of GK Venkatesh in thane sindhudhe vannum is " unnidam mayangugiren ullathaal nerungugiren" sung by Yesudas. It is an amazing master piece. Fantastic orchestration. Listen to that. It is a good to hear that Ilayaraja learnt from GKV.
Surprised to note there is no mention of the great Salil Chowdhury, from whom Ilayaraaja learnt a lot of orchestration, conducting and multipart vocal harmony when he was playing the bass guitar and combo organ for Salilda recordings in Chennai.Many of his songs also have the Salil touch in them.
