    Start with the back filter first. Good advice and a step that is often left out in technical manuals. Great video! Thank you!

    Hi Garrett,
    I see the same model number on the primary and secondary fuel filters. I thought they had different micron ratings which would give them different model numbers. Can you clarify please?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Před 4 lety +3

      So, these were the filters that came with the kit. Many people believe the filters work in parallel to increase flow and filter life, and the guy that designed this kit is one of those people. Unfortunately, that isn't true. If you remove the filter base you can easily trace the fuel path and see the filters clearly are plumbed in series. In summary, it was a fundamental flaw in theory of operation by the kit supplier.

    Hi man - thank you for your help, I just got the fuel filter 3511/12 from napa and I dont mind installing them, the problem is I can't get the new napa o-ring inside the canister, I see how you did the o - ring and its looks so easy, do you think the o-ring that comes with the 3511 is not fitting the canister?
    Maybe I should throw away these filters I just bought and get the kit...
    What do you think?

    • @Zachnsm1234

      Btw - what about the primary fuel filter, any kit for it?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Před 3 lety +1

      always better to switch to spin on filters if you can. I use a Napa 4770 filter base to replace the primary filter head entirely instead of using the adapter.

    • @Zachnsm1234
      @Zachnsm1234 Před 3 lety

      @@tacticalrepair thank you for your reply, its looks like the adapter is easier to replace (either way the alternator has to move) any reason you replaced the whole filter base instead of the adapter?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes! The thread pitch if the 4770 base is 1"-14, which gives you many more options of better filters than the adapter allows.

    Is it common for this filter to leak a little from the top gasket ? I have a slow leak on my napa filter and it’s brand new

  • @johndowe7003

    hey bud, my canister leaks from the top, im guessing its the seal on it, is it ok to drive it like that? ive done a 24 miles trip and it didnt bother the engine so im on the edge of changing i out but if its not urgent ill put it off for now

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Před 6 lety

      john dowe try to tighten it up and see if it stops. If it isn't pouring, it should be fine.

      thanks bud i been binge watching your videos lately. good content on your channel. i have a 1970s m35a2 as well so its good learning on it from other people. like that alternator video was really good. i like how well spoken you are about the topic. could you do a video on testing the voltage and adjusting the alt. i tihnk it would make a good video since u have motors laying around where u can easily show how to test and adjust the alts.

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Před 6 lety

      john dowe I may do that. Not a terrible idea. Btw, new fuel filters will come with the o-ring that is leaking on your top canister bolt. Leaking means it's probably not been changed in 15 years and the o-ring is rotted.

    • @johndowe7003
      @johndowe7003 Před 6 lety

      Yeah probably, im gonna stick with the old style filters for now. do you sell m35a2 parts? i need a windshield that isnt broken. i wanted to swpa out the glass but i read it wasnt worth it cause its a big hassle. and the one i bought off mike motor pool was 200$ whata ripoff

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Před 6 lety +1

      john dowe no I don't sell parts like that. $150-$200 is the standard price for new windshields these days. But keep in mind that they are aluminum frames and they won't rust out again in 6 years.

    Do these have any advantage over the stock ones?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Před 3 lety +4

      Much better filtration, way easier to change them, wider range of available filters in more places.

  • @KraeseRepairs

    Would it better to fill the filters with fuel before install?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Před rokem +1

      No. Your lift pump will fill them automatically when you turn the power on. Pre- filling them ensures contaminants will bypass the folter element.
