Rail traffic in Romania - Southern Carpathian Mountains - Danube riverbank - Magistrala CFR 100 [4K]

- One of the main railway lines of Romania, line CFR 100 (Bucharest - Timisoara), passes through the scenic natural environment of the Southern Carpathian mountain range. Scenery areas along this line stretch through numerous river valleys to the point where the Carpathians meet the Danube River, in the Đerdap Gorge. Single track section of the line stretches along the narrow edge of the Danube river bank, over numerous old steel bridges and through several tunnels. Then, the line separates from the Danube River and passes over a smaller mountain pass between Orșova and Caransebeș. In that part, it goes through the valley of the Tamish and Belareca rivers, where it crosses a few bridges and passes through several tunnels.
During this video, the valley of the Belareca River is shown, with its few bridges and a tunnel, as well as the flattened part in the area of Iablanița, Mehadia and Domaşnea. One of the special scenic parts with phenomenal bird chirping is located at the entrance to Poarta train station. Dense forest at the entrance to the Poarta tunnel, with a special mix of the most diverse animal sounds, croaking frogs, evening crickets sounds, birds chirping and singing, gives a special impression of calming appeasable nature. In front of the one tunnel a large dragonfly appeared, clinging to the plant, so that even a passing train couldn't blow away. A significant number of video sequences were created in the Đerdap Gorge, along the bank of the Danube river. In that part, numerous concrete protective coastal fortifications stand out, protecting the railroad from water, old steel bridges stretch over numerous river gulfs and huge protective concrete walls overhang station Vârciorova (Virci Orova).
A significant number of different freight trains of various cargo operators pass through this line. There are about a dozen of them during the day. Long and heavy freight train traction are often pulled by two or three locomotives, where there is often one locomotive in the middle of freight train, which is very rare to see on the European railways. They are mostly Romanian-made LE 5100, six-axle CFR and others electric ASEA locomotives from Electroputere Craiova. There are also a couple of CFR Calatori passenger and InterRegio trains. The longest daily train of them is IR 73 (Curtici - Arad - București Nord). When there are no trains, scenery views and sounds of nature complement the scenic ambience, during the waiting for the next train coming.

This is really good. So many railway videos just show one train after another flashing past, often focusing just on the locomotive. That is not the true spirit of trainspotting, which is mostly waiting. Listening to the birds. Seeing the wildlife. This was truly beautiful. As other commentators have already said - a masterpiece. Beautiful! That section is included in the rehabilitation of the Timisoara/Caransebeș-Craiova railway, the southern branch of the pan-European Rhine-Danube corridor! The new line will come on a new route, I don't know if it will remain in the field and it is in the bidding stage!
I hope for the renovation of the line. After the renovation, there will no longer be such a combination of railway and nature :) That is one of the reasons why I made this video.

Breathtaking views ! Though those places are not populated with brown bears, it compensates with other kind of wildlife, especially venomous snakes. The shots taken from above the tunnel and the ones from the steep ridge are a trully "do or die" scenario xD

Truly superb videos with excellent editing ! I watched the whole programme without a break…really wonderful! You chose the locations exceptionally well and I much appreciated the scenery. I have seen freight traffic on the Danube many times before but the length of the first freight ‘pusher’ barges was really surprising! I hope the dog and her puppy survived…she seemed quite calm but the pup was vulnerable as it was so young. Congratulations….and I enjoy subscribing to you and your professional videos. Hi Dulevoz, your films are always enjoyable, but I think you surpassed yourself with this one. I especially like breaking away from the trains every now and then and showing the Danube or the local wildlife etc. I wish you could film in the UK - you'd do a better job than anything Network Rail could organise.

Thank you! Great video! For everyone who wondered about the poor infrastructure maintenance. Indeed has been long neglected however this main rail line is set to be completely repaired and upgraded. The main 100 railway links Bucharest via Craiova to Timisoara and its modernise programme is split in many segments. Overall work will begin in couple of months and will include train stations and some different rail related works. Nature simply beautiful.😊
Very great video, but enjoy this route while you can. They plan to (do a terrible job at) modernizing it, they're already starting exporpriating people living near the railway. Personally the whole route from Craiova to Timișoara is enjoyable and has stood the test of time decently, would have stood it better if it was actually maintained since the 1990s. Thats why you see trains go so slowly on this route. Even then considering the terrain and so forth, i cant imagine trains going over 80 km/h for the most part. At best on flat straight stretches at around 120 km/h.

The train at 11:40 - is that all sunflower oil? This is maybe the best of your videos. It's beautifully photographed, well composed and immersive. I feel like I'm standing right there.
That locomotive only has a "sticker" with a romanian sunflower oil brand and the tank wagons are empty or loaded with fuel.
