Kiwi here, All Black fan who really appreciates this Springbok player. Incredibly strong and athletic second rower. Love the way he just smiles and stands his ground in any confrontation.

The other day had a big Samoan get out the car because I beeped at him cutting me off.
He gets out the car thinking he King Kong.. Until I got out and smiled. He turns around gets back in car lol.

I met Eben in the latter part of 2019 - trust me, you’d appreciate the man’s sheer size when standing next to him. My son wanted an autograph and a picture as Etzebeth is his hero - he’s larger than life, friendly, humble, just an all-round great guy.

I was at the ground as a Sharks fan. Biggest hit I've ever seen, and on a guy who is also ridiculously powerful. Poor Bismarck didn't know where he was. Tried to get up, stumbled back down. He was so disoriented he started walking back towards his own tryline.

My goodness, the Boks have a huge asset in Eben Etzebeth. What a beast!
Bakkies was probably slightly more feared, but Etzebeth is leaps and bounds the better rugby player. Bosses both defensive and offensive line outs, faster, more athletic and a gas tank for days. Ever since he found that line between aggression and discipline, he’s been rugby’s best lock for a couple of years now, and consistently one of the best players period.
I rate the main reason why Bakkies was more feared was that the game was not as strict back then. If you do anything now that is just marginally more than grabbing a jersey, you'll get sidelined for weeks. Opposition knows that Eben will exercise restraint to avoid getting a card, so less reason to fear.
@@chieffa32 good point. Bakkies also headbutted back then when the game was much more rough. Rugby has gone soft (like everything else these days). sigh.

SA always produces the best international enforcers and its always the the locks either #4 or #5 from Matfield and Botha to now Etzebeth. Enforcers are a must in rugby in any good team and they're someone any team would want playing for them.

James Lowe, who is probably half Eben's height and weight. Lowe ducked and Eben finished up on his shoulder. Pure physics. Most rugby players nowadays can can easily squat twice their body weight. But it didn't look good for Eben. I can imagine his teammates taking the piss afterwards.
