NEW Tempest PISTOL Open World Build

- Now that we have had the 2nd major update of the current Secrets of the Obscure expansion, we get to play with new weapons on all 9 professions. Elementalists can finally stop casting spells, and start shooting elemental bullets instead.
The new weapon works best as a condition damage, but allows for a fast ramp up of burning so that you can make short work of any enemy in the open world. The great thing about the new pistol is that you can build very defensively, while retaining a lot of offensive power, enabling a "one size fits all" build for Open World game play!
I chose to combine this with a Tempest build, which basically enhances Elementalist's strengths, while retaining a rather simple play style. This allows you to play at a relaxed pace, while still being able to deal with anything the game will throw at you.

As someone with four elementalists, I've been waiting on this video. Tempest is by far my favorite spec to use but I still try to have different builds by using different weapon sets. That can be hard at times, so I am happy that A-Net has introduced not only new class weapons but also made it so we can use each weapon available to a class on any build. And then there's you, just killing it and taking what A-Net gives and knocking it out of the park! Thank you for taking the time to dive deep into a pistol build and sharing it with the rest of us! I can't wait to give this one a go because I know I will not be disappointed!

Pistol Tempest is definitely one of the good surprises for me this patch. I wasn't sure whether I'd like it after the beta, but they knocked it out of the park.

I've been playing with pistol on my alac condi tempest, and honestly I reeeeeeeeeally like it. I benchmarked myself on how I play (I understand it might not be the "professional" rotation) and it was around same dmg as scepter, but it requires a more specific rotation since it depends on having the bullet ready when doing some of the skills.
what I really like tho is it's got more cc's than sceptor? air 2 is a daze and earth 3 is an immob, and all the other soft cc's are maintained still. air 3 is also an evade that can turn into another soft cc and then turn into aegis! the aegis isn't super easy to get to but that's nice to get another one outside of aftershock. the 2x evades are nice too, tho don't use it at qadim cm 😂😂
yeah sceptor raw dmg is higher and prob easier cuz don't need to be as strict with the 2 and 3 kill order, and can just camp fire for dmg, but I always find the rest of the skills kinda useless outside of fire. plus I'm usually alac dps in raids, n it's not like I can camp fire anyway. having more cc is such a godsend at say samarog or qadim when my group's qherald refuses to swap to staff to cc because his "dps would drop" 🙄
so yeah...I actually really love pistol 😂 I was originally just gonna use it for the armament achieve but now I'm happily continuing with it and prob not going back to sceptor anytime soon 😂
I also didn't have any trouble keeping track what bullets I have. first, I know what buttons I pressed in what order, so I obviously know what bullet I have. if I do loose track, the icons on the bottom for bullets I find to be pretty clear - they're brighter I feel like compared to other icons. the only thing I get mixed up are the fire bullet with the ricochet buff icon as both look like bullets just facing diff direction. but fire bullets are easier for me anyway since that's my primary dmg so I use it the most often, which means muscle memory is better.
Totally agree. Pistol was one of the weapons I was least excited for, but it turned out much better than expected.
You're spot on with that all the skills/attunements have something worth using. I feel less "stuck" in attunements with pistol than with scepter, for example.

Yeah, this one definitely takes some getting used to. I feel that some of the animations could be smoothed out (but that might be a feeling/impossible to implement). I am generally happy that water 2 and 3 are worth using.

Someone else mentioned that this is very similar to a Scepter Ele build. I could be one of your older builds, also a celestial build. I was playing around on it on Skills, I se the idea of pushing toughness to get the extra stats converted, but do you really need the toughness in and of itself? If not how about runes of the tempest, gets both burning and bleeding to 90% (93 with oyster soup) and sigil of accuracy to push you up to ~80% crit (also with the soup) when you have fury.
Toughness isn't really needed, I just felt it was nice for a casual set considering we do 16-18k with protocols. But you're right, Tempest runes might be a much more balanced pick for this build, will test it out myself!
@@phandrelPlease let me know how it works, I was going to test it myself, but I realized I do not have a warhorn. I should use it to encourage me to go ahead and make Howler, but it will still take a few days to talk myself into doing that.
should mention you only get the combo finisher on water skill 2 if you have bullet to pop

I'd definitely try to incorporate a stun break (Arcane Shield or "Eye of the Storm!") and some way to cleanse conditions like a sigil of cleansing .

You need an achievement for it
As @yigitaydn3249 mentioned, you'll need an achievement to play pistol. You can unlock this fairly early on in Secrets of the Osbcure, though.
In the meantime, you could replace the pistol by scepter, as that one will work just fine until then.
My OW Elementalist build is very similar, but I camp fire with scepter which is just stronger than the new pistol. More damage, and the build makes it that you never really have to worry about your health. The only downside of the build is the slow ramp up, which every condi ele builds have compared to some other classes or power specs.
Yep, that's a solid way to go about it as well. Works pretty fine in group content as well (albeit with different traits and gear). Relic of Nourys' proc will also heal on your burn stacks if you feel like face tanking stuff.
I got turned off playing ele when the legendary pistol sound effects did not work.
Yeah, there seem to be some oversights in play with Elementalist's pistol. The bullet mechanic is such a hassle to track as well, which is why I decided to keep the rotation simple.
I got to admit I didn't like pistol on any ele spec much. It is funny to stand around in cities with 4 elemental orbs pretending it is a new backpiece however.
Haha, I now hope they turn that into one. I was surprised by how smooth it felt on Tempest while still allowing me to build defensively.
For some reason I was sure I would prefer pistol on weaver, but it wasn't clicking for me.
@@phandrelI think its partly because the pistol animations and skill effects all look kind of boring compared to sword on weaver. To be fair this is an issue with pistol on all classes - only unload on thief looks and feels good - but with that many skills on weaver and all of them managing to look as dull as all other pistol skill just makes it feel worse.
Using signets on tempest? Gross.
That's a reaction I often get with that build :P
