  • Hey Everyone!
    Today we'll be reviewing and comparing the DSPIAE Glass Files. I was fortunate enough to receive both the MSF-13 as well as the SF-15 glass files, so I'll be looking at both of them and comparing them to my preferred method of clean-up; sanding sponges.

    I use that glass file, the downside to this compared to the one from Raser is it has better cutting power so it cleans up nubs faster but it accumulates plastic dust faster so you have to make sure to clean it with a wet old toothbrush while using it. But the price is so cheap I kept using it. Plus it saves a ton of time compared to progressing sanding. Another thing I hate about progressive sanding specially when you build a lot of kit is you have to stock a lot of them since they wear out fast.

      Haha. Thanks for the info. I definitely think it'll save money in the long run, I just didn't like how I felt like I needed to clean it up after each nub.

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  Před 3 lety +1

      Honestly performance is exactly the same so it comes down to how you prefer to use the files. I prefer the MSF-13 because of how I like to hold the file. As well as the larger surface area. If you like the little "handle" area like metal files, then you'll like the SF-15.

    Just view a video someone was using a cheap glass file he bought at Amazon. Whenever he was done filing he just soak the glass files on a plastic cup filled with tap water. It does cleans it well!

    I use a cheap glass file. I love it. I find that using the file with water sands off the nub marks nicely. The one kit I did paint...didnt seem to notice anything at all. If the primer you're using is good it will stick lol. But yeah I love glass files. I hope to get some better ones soon.

      @PlamoTherapist  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey good to know! I've been testing the glass files more and more. I have been using a toothbrush to keep it clean, but I still find myself cleaning it just about after every piece, but not sure if it takes longer necessarily.

      @@PlamoTherapist I didn't think of tooth brush for cleaning..I would..use my shirt lol....I dip the glass file in water..and then when I take it out I wipe off excess water and sand the nub while the file is wet. I watched a tutorial vid somewhere about doing it that way. It gave a nice result. Ah I just remembered..the water is to cut down on sanding dust so youre not breathing it in. It can cause the dust to clump. Then I play the fun game of tapping the piece on a paper towel until it comes off and hope I dont break it. Lol. Im sure there are 1000 better ways but thats what Ive been doing. Haha. Anyways great vid! I'll have to try these.

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah, I've been dipping mine in water too, but the clumps get stuck in the filing pattern. So the toothbrush gets most of it, but I use a toothpick to get the REALLY stuck stuff.

    Hi not sure if anyone will see this but I would like to know the difference between the MSF-13 and SF-15 files. I recently started getting into Gunpla and read some reveals that said the SF-15 clogs up quite a bit and am wondering, is that the same for the MSF-13?

  • @TheBlockieBox
    @TheBlockieBox Před 3 lety +2

    The finish looks extremely clean, though I have not run into any specific situations yet where I wanted such a polished, shiny finish.
    Is it useful for painting or is there not really anything else to it?

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  Před 3 lety +2

      In my opinion, I think for painting, it loses some of it's value which IS that mirror finish. Especially since you're going to paint right over it. I think such a smooth finish doesn't allow for good adhesion from the primer, but I haven't tried it yet. Maybe I'll do another video looking into if it affects the ability for paint/primer to adhere to the plastic.

    • @TheBlockieBox
      @TheBlockieBox Před 3 lety +2

      @@PlamoTherapist I see. It is true that you’ll basically lose that nice polished look when you apply primer/paint and I also have this gut feeling that it might not hold as well.
      I just don’t know how I feel about glossy plastic finishes. I like gunpla more when they have a matte paintjob, but in the end that’s just personal preference.
      Looking forward to the next vid!

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you! I think that for some kits like the RG line or MG line that have glossy or special finishes, these files can really ensure that those nub marks don't detract from the finish of the kit. And for the new or even intermediate builder, a single tool to remove nubs after nippers is hard to pass up for more tools and ultimately more money.

      @bryanmerel Před 2 měsíci

      I don't know if my comment would still be relevant to you considering the time but there is indeed a version of this, both on dspiae and raser that has progressively thin filing surface. You can buy those is those fit your jam better.

  • @natalebabbo-gunplaanddioramas

    Very interesting video. I’ve been using the Raser glass file kit and been quite happy with it, but it’s pricey. Seems the Dspiae is a cheaper and comparable option. I clean my Raser glass file with warm tap water. The shine comes from using the balancer sponge. One question. Are these Dspiae glass file fragile? Will they break if accidentally dropped on your workbench?

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  Před 3 lety +1

      I dropped it a few times on my work table with no issues 😅. My room has carpet so I don't think a fall off my table would do anything, but a hard floor might damage or break it.

    Hi, does the siren affects the surrounding of the nub marks like normal sanding stick? Example when you sand a nub mark usually u ended up cleaning the surrounding as well. But there's a review that says the raser actually just sand off the nub mark leaving the surrounding untouched. Is that the same case for siren?

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey man! Great question. The siren CAN sand the area down around the nub of you're not careful, but I find that even if that's the case, it will all be sanded down to the same high-shine finish. I would say that the Raser is the same way, but I haven't had it long enough to make the comparison. 😉
