The rangers were frauds amongst the playoff teams. I don't think they were a good enough team on 5 on 5 to beat anyone. That was before Igor started playing like a God.

It’s a fan bias. From my perspective devils lost their games cause they were nervous and flopping. They won cause they figured the rangers out. Rangers stayed the same all series.

Both have long storied histories, play in a world renowned venue is a world renowned city and carry that history yearly.
But both historically struggle in the postseason to the brutal frustration of their fans who barely remember the championship runs of years gone by.
Maybe the most annoying 'American' fan base, but honestly there is nothing worst than leafs fans, all sports, hands down!

dont sell McLeod short. He works his ass off and creates a lot of good plays. He just doesnt score much. Watch him during the regular season games and he has grweat hands, puck control, and speed. Oh and hes top 2 faceoff guy in the LEAGUE.
He's one of those guys that is going to get looked down on because of where he was drafted. Even though he'll never reach the heights of what people think a lottery pick should be, he has molded his game into being a good NHL player. His FO ability is phenomenal. He has great speed. He knows how to throw a check. And he can still show off the skill from time to time that got him picked as high as he did.
McLeod is a really solid fourth line player. You need these types of players to win a Cup. McLeod and Bastian are solid 4 liners, Wood, not so much, as he is a dumb penalty waiting to happen.
@@ramram349 Bastian has n't seemed to be as good as he was earlier in the year before he got hurt. But he's fine for what he does. A big body in front of the net is good and a guy you can cycle is great to have. I think that McLeod is even better than a fourth liner. Not by much. He's not a top six guy, but he's such a strong player on the penalty kill and when the team needs a defensive face-off and just the guy who will make it very hard on the opposing team. But yes, he's not a top six guy for sure.

I agree, the Rangers did show up, but they couldn't keep up the Devils' speed. The Devils wore the Rangers down. Even in game 6, the Devils weren't bad.

After a game 6 that could rattle the best of them he played game 7 with an insane level of quiet confidence. It's ok to give a player on the team that beat you, even a hated rival, credit for having a great series. God knows Devils' fans were very complimentary to Shesterkin during this series.

The Mcleod goal is a great example of just how skilled modern NHL players are. Even Mikey, a 4th line faceoff and defensive specialist, has incredible hands and poise. The same is true of so many other bottom 6 guys in the league. The skill floor is higher than its ever been (as is the ceiling).
The devils speed won this series. Rangers simply were too slow and the devils, when zoned in, completely dismantled the playbook of the NYR. Devils just kept coming

Amazing to keep hearing the narrative that the rangers didn’t show up. What a failure in hockey analysis. The rangers showed up they don’t have an answer to the devils speed or transitional game. That resulted in the rangers not having an answer thus leading to the lose. The devils completely dominated 5-5 play. This not showing up is like me saying I lost a one-on-one hockey game to Connor McDavid because I didn’t have enough effort - just dumb.
Well the announcers didn’t mention that once. They chalked it up to the difference being “the 22 year old goalie” 5,000,000 times. 🙄
The refs tried to help rangers so much in games 6 and 7 1st period so obvious even announcers had to say it..5 on 5 it’s no match…devils blew doors off them…damn ranger fans are unfortunately full of non acknowledgment that they just got beat by the “better “ team
@@usernotfound904 Another point that was over stated however it was true. Akira made a huge difference once he entered the lineup; that being said, Devils played significantly better in front of him and limited high scoring opportunities and addressed the PK situation. Once (1) the goaltending was matched and (2) the PK was calibrated - that's when the best team was going to win a 5 game series at that point with the devils needing 4 games - they took them down hard. Even game 6, Devils controlled much of the 5-5 play however the 2 defensive coverage issues with the slot goals were a huge difference in getting the rangers that win. Overall it is simple, the devil's system and fast pace play overwhelmed the rangers, they just could not systemically adjust to that speed.
I think Palat wanted make up for those 2 penalties he had on Sat. which put the Devs back on their heels after a good start, he seemed like he was on a mission and showed it with his hustle & hard play . And yes, Rags fans are the ''most annoying'' in the tri-state area - good on Boomer to admit that
The Devils were the better team in the regular season and in the playoffs . Those first 2 games were fluke wins for the rags. We were jittery and nervous and needed to find our game,and we did. The Devils were built,not bought like you jokes.
Hey Boomer, I’m the exact same way, every game I watched live the Devils lost, every game I recorded and watched the Devils won, I didn’t watch the game live last night and kept myself in a bubble until 2300hrs and then watched. I too superstitious and it worked for me. Good series. Thanks for being fair.

@@usernotfound904 That may have been true in the early games but not last night. He played as well as Shesterkin last night. That stop in period 1 against Zebanejad's slapper from the wing was huge. He did it again in the 3rd against a screened shot by Trochek. Sure the Devils were much, much better defensively and made things easier for Schmid but he was damn good last night.

You really have to feel sorry for Ranger fans, and I think it can be traced back when the Rangers Finally won the Cup in 1994. It’s tough being a NY fan. Lowest cup total of any original six teams, 29 years since last cup (4 in 97 years), 50 years since last Knicks championship, 54 years since last Jets championship. At least the Yankees have had more recent success although being in last in the AL East doesn’t bode well.
The Rags are the Yankees of Hockey. All these great names and vet players, get out worked and out played and out coached.

The Rangers are an embarrassment to the city of NY.....whereas The Yankees are the WINNINGEST sports team of all time.
Maybe they mirror each other over the last decade or so, but over time the one cup in nearly 85 years Rangers should never be compared to the Yankees. I love 'em and they're usually good and in the mix but the Rangers almost never close the deal. They even struggled to do so in '94 when they were clearly the best against a mediocre Vancouver team. Nothing is ever easy for them. They're better off being an 8th seed/wildcard.

Hischier was probably the best player effort wise on the ice. Complete 200-ft game.
Meier had something like 35 shots in the series. So these guys were mostly snake bitten.
Hischier didn't get a goal but he led by example and his imprint is all over this series win. I knew he had leadership traits when the Devils picked him but his growth as a captain has been incredible.
The Devils have kind of a Blackhawk feel to them. Hughes is Kane and Hischier is Toews. And they have solid support players. Will it result in 3 Cups? Only time will tell.

But this team feels special and you never know when you're going to get the chance that they have now. Fox is a great offensive defenseman, but he is small, and timid in the corners when you put pressure on him.. he has a ton of brain farts in the D zone.. and it not just this game… and in the playoff when the whistle gets “swallowed” and the checks get finished, he’s gonna be a liability in the D zone

Nah Akira did not outplay Shesterkin. The devils never really allowed the Rangers to establish any sort of threating offense to him. He was great but to say he outplayed Shesterkin is disrespectful to Shesterkin. The Rangers just looked like they didn't want to be there.
Rangers did a little too much at the deadline getting both Tarasenko and Kane when they should've stuck with just one of them. There wasn't much chemistry with the offense and felt too much like game 5 and 7 against TB in the 2015 ECF. I feel they should give Gallant another year because we've seen the Rangers underperform in the playoffs with previous coaches so what difference would it make with another coaching change?

"Why did they not show up"? Easy. Panarin, Kreider and Zibanejad are regular season point compilers that thrive only during the regular season when the checking isn't constant and the penalties are called on the opposition for looking at them funny.

Rangers had obvious problems going into this series. Like the Isles, you can just rely so much on a solid goalie. Series always swing back and forth. Rangers did great job responding in G6 but Devils used home ice in G7 and came back with Schmid. Series was similar to last years ecf where they had Tampa down 2-0.

Schmid played great, but Igor still outplayed him. The devils defense was impeccable and the rangers defense couldn’t keep up with the devils speed and gave up 10 odd man rushes vs the rangers 1 odd man rush.

Face the facts. The Devils finished the season with the better record 3rd best in the NHL vs the Rangers 9th best . They beat the Rangers head to head in the regular season series. The Devils are simply better .. In addition the Rangers roster this season are not the same as last --- missing the gritty players they lost in FA.
