Most Rangers fans I’ve encountered have been very respectful, so I’m not going to gloat. I’m extremely proud of this Devils squad, but the Rangers had a hard-fought series and respect to Igor. I know these two teams will be tough to beat for some time.

win the loose pucks, hold the zone, forecheck, back check, puck support, working the boards, winning faceoffs (consistently) just to rattle off a few. long summer ahead. . . .

Unfortunately, they had a breakdown of fundamentals.
Simply put this season was the biggest collapse we have seen in a long time. An aging kane who was noticeably slower and more of a detriment to the team than not. NJ showed this team has major holes and will not make a cup run until it’s addressed.
Standouts:
Miller had a horrendous series and from what I saw if he wasn’t get beat on the rush, he was constantly turning the puck over in the defensive zone and even breakouts. I think this playoff run should make management keep an eye on what the long term plan is with him. Young, yes but his play was far from what we normally see
Zibby: I’m gonna chalk this up as just a team who was mentally defeated and zibby was a casualty of that, he is a phenomenal player but when your big guys don’t show up come playoff time. You’re not going anywhere
Laf: I have been cheering this guy on for so long and defended him against friends and fans who hated on him for too long. 0 points and barely noticeable on the ice all series, I sadly admit he is trending in the direction as a bust. His speed is clearly a huge flaw in his game and at this point if rangers don’t trade him for something, a first overall pick will be thrown in the garbage. This has a huge impact on the rangers future. (Look how hughes has shaped the devils roster)
Lastly, Panarin: love him as a player and person but it has gotten to the point where come playoff time, panarin turns into a ghost of his usual self. I think it’s a strong thought for management to think about trading him and his big contract to make room for players who can pitch in goals but also play a 200 ft game. 0 goals from a 12mil player in 7 games is inexcusable. And on top of that surrounded by all the talent in the world. Panarin was a major reason this team failed
Last notes: let kane walk, let mikkola walk, get rid of goodrow ( he played well but that contract is stupid for a 4th liner) trade laf and highly consider trading Panarin and miller. Hate to say it but with the way the cap is and the run we just had, major changes need to be made.
Oh and goodbye gallant. Long overdue, out coached and out classed by NJ. Yes the players didn’t show but when it comes down to it, gallant does not have what it takes to win a cup. him starting the playoffs with zibby in the bumper and not on the wing on the PP was one of the dumbest things I have ever witnessed as a NYR fan.

I don't think NJ "exposed" anything. The Rangers exposed themselves and long ago. Remember the month of November? Even after the so called turnaround/helmet throw we still weren't playing that much better. Think about our wins. Almost never showing up for a full 60, ALWAYS coming from behind/digging ourselves out of holes, the D was mediocre at BEST and all Nonchalant Gallant did was make line changes and no TRUE adjustments with the same in structure. Then we go and get a needless Kane when we should've put it into better D assets/structure and you have an All-Star team (all firepower no armor) that isn't jelled and has no chemistry because half are north/south players while the other wants east/west and the coach doesn't know what to do with it all! NONE of that translates into a well liked playoff team let alone Cup champions! As Herb Brooks once said, "All-Star teams fail because they rely solely on the individuals talent; the soviets win because they take that talent and use it inside a system designed for the betterment of the team."
And Nonchalant had NO idea how to do that!

Such a waste to because Shesty was a rock back there, save for when the team never showed up. And with Boston & Tampa Bay out AND the Canes staff depleted it woulda been looking good to the Finals. But no, the Bipolar-ness of the Rangers of this season got the best of them for game 7 and they got what they deserved. 🤬😞
I agree with everything you said. I just believe that Patrick Kane had his moments just like Tarasenko did, but its hard to produce when your centers are sleeping all series long.
I am suprise you didn't say anything about trocheck. With his big contract he should be the first one to go honestly. But we going to be stucked with him at least one more year before we can trade him
Sorry dude, I’m usually on the Optimism team but this group did not look good at all. Blowing a 2-0 lead to a rookie goalie with this roster is inexcusable.
I am all for the kid line but at this point, our top 2 lines are set and there’s no indication they’re shipping anyone out. Kane will go but that will only give Kakko a bump if they don’t sign a top 6 RW in FA.
I don’t fault the kids for not being superstars, I actually blame the rangers for bringing these kids in and expecting them to be superstars playing 3rd line mins. That will never ever work for young star development. Guarantee laf would be an allstar if he went to any other team with young players.
All in all, rangers need a shake up. History once again shows, all star teams with all talent never work out in sports. Too much “skill” and not enough guys who are willing to get in the greasy areas to get the puck. Our 4th line looked the best out of anyone tonight! That’s Embarassing.

Even the games the Rangers won, they were outplayed by the Devils. The Devils were the better team. They wanted it more. McLeod and Haula did a number on them with faceoffs too. They had no answer. To think they had no goals from Hischier and Meier. They will beat Carolina too.

Defense is 50% of the game. Kane plays no defense. And he has slowed down drastically, and obviously lost heart,. I knew he was going to be a detriment when they got him.
Igor Shesterkin is an incredible Goaltender however 0 for 3 in first period , in Playoffs , you don't win very many games. Last year they advanced against Pens in OT playing a Team with both their Top Goaltenders out .. Big changes coming to the Rangers , ,,, Tara and Kane .. it DID NOT WORK ... ?
Even though they were totally outplayed, Rangers had 5 really good point blank chances, including Zebanajed when it was 0-0. Schmid made the saves. Devils just better. If Kane is healthy then he is in decline.

And Hank's answer is perplexing and infuriating b/'c he knows why but has to be a good diplomat. "That's Hockey" and that body language is code for your offense is dry, pasty and without flavor. All they do is throw the puck at the goalies chest or toward the net hoping for a redirection. Sometimes you score in bunches this way and sometimes the well runs dry. Aside from game 6 the well ran dry b/c your throwing high school caliber shoots at a guy who is 6'5.
Because rags forwards only get confidence and momentum from scoring on the pp. No pp goals, soft skill forwards quit
I feel bad for Igor. He was like Audie Murphy back there against the Devils. Hope Igor won't suffer from PTSD after this series.

I love the guys on the team, but man, what a complete letdown. I saw no grit, no energy, no physicality and no true desire to win. Not winning battles, no scrums in front, making terrible turnovers and giving up on plays is a recipe for losing. The key to winning this series, imo, was by taking the body and slowing them down thru the neutral zone with physicality and forechecking hard. I watched the Rangers avoid contact all over the ice, that's just not playoff hockey.
Sorry, you can have all the talent in the world, but you can't win anything without grit and determination to impose your will. Everyone, except Igor, needed to elevate their energy and no one stepped up.
What a huge disappointment. This team is far, far better than that.

That's where the Rangers get hurt and that is speed, you have Fox , Miller, Trouba, Lefranier, Kakko that have no speed and are inconsistent at their end giving up the puck. Rangers love to sit on a one goal lead and leave it up to Igor to be the savior and lose. They can't say they were out winded this year ahead 2-0 they lose and fall on their faces like every year. Leafs fan here. I think and thought that one of the teams NYR, New Jersey or Carolina will be in the SCF. Whoever comes out of this NJ/Car series will go on to beat either Florida or Toronto and advance to the finals. The Rangers are scary good and New Jersey beat them. Both NJ and Carolina are excellent teams. Should be good. This years playoffs have been great.

The same problem the Rangers had all season did them in in this game. Not getting the puck out of their zone. Terrible passing and winding the puck around the boards the Devils knew it and had a man at the point to keep the puck in. I thought getting Patrick Kane was a good move but he played like a bum who should retire. Artemi was a big disappointment and Adam Fox is no Brian Leech I don't care how many Norris Trophies he wins. Just a disgraceful performance in a game 7. And I don't see much difference for next season either.
Fox couldn't hold Leetch's jock. That's the problem here. Mika is no Messier. Kreider is no Graves. That 94 team had winners. This current team, not so much.

There is a reason why Mike Keenan addressed the problem to Neil Smith.. they need to get bigger they need to get stronger they needed element of size and strength which this team does not have you have nine same type players with the exception of Chris kreider everyone is soft soft players Alexei LaFreniere no points he has been a total bust why did the rangers draft him there was no reason to draft him they need bigger players when are they going to realize this when is the organization actually going to draft some players that can actually play look at all the draft picks that the devils have made that are excellent the rangers can't develop anybody
