    Just cleaned all of my Santana through my Guru and have been listening to all those great tunes again. Good call...

    Hi Dale- another very interesting video. The Santana album is a classic although I know overfamiliarity can be a problem for us collectors. I always get the title of the Jefferson Airplane “Bathing after Baxter’s “ wrong!😃. I used to have Surrealist Pillow but got rid of it because I only listened to the opening track on each side. Perhaps I need to get another copy. I don’t know any of the “Newbie” less than 20 years old records or artists so I will try out the Hold Steady group. Good that you had some concert bonding with your then teenager son. Cheers Bill.

      Is that bathing after Baxter's broth? Probably not recommended 😉

    Hey Dale. Some good pulls here. I’ve always liked Shootout at the Fantasy Factory. Traffic is one of my favorite “classic rock” era bands. I have a reissue of Neu! as well. I think it’s a 2010 Grönland pressing. Quality didn’t blow me away, but also wasn’t terribly disappointing. Probably better to not try and invest in another reissue. The Hold Steady! Love them. That’s my favorite of theirs. Saw them on the Stay Positive tour in a small club. Incredible performance. I’ve never wanted to see them again because I don’t think they could eclipse that experience. I hope to have moments like that with my kids as they get older. We’ll see… Hey… how’s the purging going? Still going? 😎 Good to see you, Dale. Cheers ✌🏻

      Hi Jon - I think an OG or early repress is the way for me to go next with that Neu! album if I can find one at a decent price. Yes seeing Hold Steady go crazy in a smallish venue is a great memory. The purge has slowed in the second half of this year but I'm gearing-up for a renewed effort in 2024...cheers Dale

    Weirdly, I am entirely devoid of any Traffic, but they are a band I like. That Neu album is one on my look-out list. I've never seen a decent copy at a record fair. Abraxas is superb. An absolute classic. I'm still not fed up with it! I have a couple of the Hold Steady early albums on CD, but I haven't heard any of their more recent stuff. I'd sort of forgotten about them. I'll have to look them up again. I have a digital copy of Mind Control also of Blood Lust. I've not listened to them in years. Nice video, Dale. Cheers

      Hi Andy - You definitely need to get some Traffic into the collection...I might waver on purging Abraxas...Cheers Dale

    I have a repressing of that Neu! record, and I would agree with your comments. Oddly, I have never heard that Santana record. Yay: The Hold Steady! I love that band. That is my 2nd fav Hold Steady record.

      @gatefold33  Před 8 měsíci

      Wow great you have the chance to experience Abraxas for the first time...although maybe keep that quiet in the VC as it's probably in the small print that you should know the album...

    Hi Dale. Traffic is a band I'm finally starting to warm to after years of trying, though haven't heard Fantasy Factory yet. I have an original of that Neu! album which sounds pretty good as I recall. I got quite excited about Santana a couple of years ago while I was collecting their records, but I kind of sputtered out on them a bit. Probably time to give them another go. Cheers, James

      Hi James - I'm sure I'll come back round to Abraxas one day. I still have a few more Santana albums to revisit and hopefully there'll be some keepers still. Cheers Dale

    I've got the 79 reissue of Neu's debut on Brain. If you don't mind the totally different sleeve art its a nice sounding pressing for a sensible price. Discogs comments saying the same of the 81 repress with the original sleeve design. Decent album, probably worth having a copy you want to listen to. Cheers

      Thanks for the info, I'm thinking an early repress is the way to go next, so will look out for the two you mentioned...Cheers Dale

    I remember listening to the Nicolas Godin album when it came out and being undecided about it. Although seeing you show it has made me want to try it again. I think that part of the problem is that I compare everything that he’s involved in with Moon Safari, which is clearly unfair. Perhaps I should try to listen to the album again but with fresh ears this time.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 8 měsíci

      Yes Moon Safari (and Premiers Symptomes) set a very high standard early in their career that I'm not sure they have ever been able to match...

    I think the best thing about After Bathing At Baxter’s is the cover artwork. Somehow I’ve never connected with Jefferson Airplane, so was interested to hear your opinion.

      I definitely like some of their songs (the obvious ones) and I think I like a couple of their albums but need to go back to them as may not be essential...

    Hi Dale
    ' Shootout' is probably my least favourite Traffic album, although that looks a lovely OG.
    Not familiar with Damon, will have to check that out, your description was very intriguing.
    I agree with what you said about Jefferson Airplane, their albums all seem to sound thin and muddy..case in point, I've bought several OG copies of Volunteers ( my favourite).. and they all sound weak and very ' quiet' mixes, so much so that I find I have to really crank up the volume to get any sort of dynamics. ( shit..sounding like a dreaded audiophile now)...!!!
    I think I have that same white vinyl repress of the Neu debut, to be honest mine doesn't sound that bad, so you may have just been unlucky and got a dodgy pressing.
    I really like Air and Nicholas Godin, always creative and interesting atmospheres.

      @gatefold33  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hi Rob (the audiophile...) - I need to revisit my copy of Volunteers but now with trepidation...I have a couple of other Nicolas Godin records that I think are stronger. I should check out more of Air's stuff as only have a few of their earlier albums...cheers Dale

    Serpent Power had the kind of sleeve I would probably grab. Not liking that Santana album. It has been played a lot but it is made for shaking your booty to Dale. Get off the chair, pop it off and start dancing around the house

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 8 měsíci

      Unfortunately Dale doesn't dance Steve...well only on the inside...I can't afford the therapy to rectify that, much to my wife's disappointment...it's a long story...

    Don't understand why Shoot Out is not considered well, I've always rated it quite highly.
    After Bathing at Baxters is my favourite Airplane album.
    My copy of Neu! Is part of a double with the 2nd album and sounds fine.
    Bored with Abraxas - oh dear I despair of you sometimes 😂!

    Hullo.
    I've not much to say about that lot, beyond thinking the Hold Steady album cover is atrocious. I've always thought that it looks like a bargain basement flyer for a dreadful nightclub, and that curly typeface looks like the type (sic) Elaine in accounts would use to jazz up the coffee morning poster. It actively stops me from listening to the album, I feel that strongly about it.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 8 měsíci

      I always assumed the cover was a bit ironic...However I will try to warn you if I ever show it again...maybe a brown paper bag is needed...

    as an oldie i gravitated towards those few - abraxas is timeless but samba pa ti is widely played live in pattaya bars - the thais are renowned for being great at copying classic rock - the traffic album is ok - as for the youngsters - i am starting to get into the coral =- thanks dale - baxters is awful in my opinion
