Hey quick question, I wanted to replace my ssn card in order to get my drivers license. I was given a ssn that had “Valid for work only, with dhs authorization “ printed on it, since I am an f1 student. Could you tell me the documents I need? I got my valid passport, valid visa, a printed i94 from the dhs website, my I 20. Would this be enough to mail them for a replacement card?

I don’t understand how it would matter any way since I already had a SNN number issued. All I wanted was a replacement card which could be done using my identity and immigration documents.

Question Michelle I registered online to get a replacement ssc....filled in everything then when I was on the part put in your dl or I'd information I put it like it states on my license...adress and social click proceed and it says name or as number not correct...but that's how my name is spelled on my DL....now on my ssc my name is shortened.....its different on ssc.....why is not letting me proceed online I registered like how my name is on card o my ss web....can you help me on why its saying my information is wrong. Maybe the lines for adresss should I put whole adress on one line idk.
Oh @angela those online systems are really only helpful when things are all one way. You have a unique situation - probably best to go to the office and sort it out with a real person.

After that I found my old social security card. So I decided to do some cardio workout with my girlfriend and lost my wallet on may 10th and Now everything is gone. HI @Dee If you found your original - and had received a replacement then with one lost but another found you have one so??? If you somehow lost the other one yes yo can again apply for a replacement. It's all you and your number so should be no worries.

Honestly if you are one of the few unlucky souls that have lost your id and ssc and trying to get new ones it is very very hard to get them back even if your parents go to confirm who you are they make it hard for to verify who you are even if you have your birth certificate

HI @Anne Make sure you report the loss of any credit cards etc and then apply for a new ssn- should not be a big deal. Then check your credit report regularly. Sorry this happened.

I've lost my ssc and don't remember the number. My local office is closed because of covid and I have to send the ss-5 application by mail.
My questions are
1.) It says I need evidence of age and identity, would an ID be fine if it has both of the requirements?
2.) Just for clarification, Do I send the physical ID or just a photo copy?
If you have an ID that fits the rules then that should work- and please do not send any originals. Some can also be submitted online.

Hi @OfficialJayRandom you are assigned one ssn and it cannot be changed. A crime using a ssn would be an identify theft situation and you would be the victim so it would not impact your reporting in that way. We will do another video. Thanks for the great question!

@@FinelyRevealed I found a website that says that I don’t need any identification to get a birth certificate and with the birth certificate I can get the other two but I don’t know if this website is legit. But they also want $50-$112 which I’m not able to do so I’m not sure what’s going to happen. My vehicle is broke down in the parking lot of my work and I need to get that fixed first which is going to cost me about $4500 considering I have absolutely no money it’s going to take a very long time about five months before I can get that fixed. Hi @Cameron. Every person should regularly check their credit report - that is the best way to know what is going on. It shows not only your credit that is assigned to you but also inquiries - that way you know what companies were checking your credit and if you did not authorize that check then it indicates someone else was borrowing your information.

You can help yourself by getting any medical records once you obtain that you bring it to ssa also you need proof of citizen ship or legal residents in the u.s document then you set :) to get ssn card

Hi @Fur If your parent(s) applied for you they may have a copy- if you ever worked that employer has the info. Make sure you really had one assigned. If not then you can apply when you are ready to work.

You'll need a medical record of any sort from the hospital you went to then you bring that and your birthcitificate to the ssa to get your social security card then bring ur ssn card n birth to dmv to get i.d or license

Hi @Desiree - sorry that happened. It is not magic in that way - but you should order a replacement because that indicates that you have lost your original one and will be a good record as to the time htat happened. Then you should be sure to get your free credit report - you can order one for free every year. Check it and make sure the accounts on there are yours. Thank for the great question.

Hi @Byron As you are a minor ask your Mom to help- SS is not required to take your driving test- so do that and you will have a photo ID if you don't have a passport. The driving ID and birth certificate should get you the replacement.

Hi @xoMikey - you can try calling them. It takes a week or so to receive the replacement depending upon the workload of the office you contacted - so don't be overly concerned if it has just been a little while.

Hi @Chris - check your credit report if you are worried about identity theft - everyone should do this once a year at least - and yo u can do it for free. . Also you can request a report from social security to show the earnings reported for you.

I need a social security card in order to get either and ID or license but my license expired 2 yrs ago because I couldnt find my social security card when I needed it to renew my license when the time came. And that was december before the pandemic hit.

Hi @Justice Your parents will need to obtain duplicates of your original birth records and if they obtained a social security card for you then apply to get a duplicate or help you apply for the first time if that was not done before.

Hi Jillian- if you can get a social security card in your old state then you can move everything to the new state. Or you can use your birth cert and a passport in the new state to get the SSN .

Hi @Melengoes Line up your different things and start with the basics. Birth certificate- then replace the state id/drivers license and pass port and whichever one you get first then go get the social security card replaced. Good luck!

Birth cert or cert of live birth can be ordered- certified duplicate.
There are other/state ids with pictures that can be obtained if you do not drive
Or with the birth cert you can get a passport.

Hello I’m 19. I never memorized my SSN because I always had the card with me. But now I lost my wallet and it contain my drivers license my SSN and debit card. I’m freaking out I don’t know what to do. The only thing I have is my birth certificate and a expired passport from when I was 12.
CC LOYAL this whole thing is exactly what happened to me the other day and I’m also 19 I do remember ssn tho. I already got my debt card I just have to get my ssn and drivers license don’t panic though just make sure the irs knows it’s missing so they can keep an eye out for identify theft.
But I’m in the military so I’m in California and I lost it here and my home is Illinois so I have to fly back using my military Id to see my family and so I can get a new Illinois driver license so I can get my ssn but it’s ok it all can be replaced and once you get it replaced you’ll forget it was even stolen
Hi @CC sorry for your situation. Please don't freak out- you can get a replacement driver's license from your state agency. For your social security number you have your w-4 that you gave to your employer and your state and federal tax returns which contain that information as well as the signature card at your bank where you have a bank account. Just go and get a copy and then get your social security card replaced. Order your free credit report online now and then do that again in a few months to see if anyone has used your information- or tried to use it. Check all bank statements and credit card statements carefully and report any errors. Good luck!

First ... in the future..do not take your ss card with you. Keep it in a safe place at home. Only take it with you when you will actually need to use it.

HI @Roy - great question. The application is available online for a replacement card- they don't actually let you submit it online. To submit the application you can mail it in OR go to your local social security office.
@@FinelyRevealed I went online to the website and went through the process for a replacement card and they sent a email that said my request was submitted and to expect another email for confirmation.I never received it so I called the toll free number and they said it would take 4 to 6 weeks but I need it sooner because I'm applying for a Grant and they need a physical social security card is there anyway to get it faster other than going into office directly???
Sorry - the fastest way is to go to the office. Mine came in a week. For the grant - ask if you can provide some other verification- if you have a social security earnings statement or a copy of the top of the first page of your last tax return or a copy of your last w-2 (with all info showing except earnings blacked out)

HI @Kelly Adults aged 18 and over may request a replacement online but for children (under 18) the parent needs to apply and it usually is done in person- check with your local office to be sure.

I applied for a ssn for my kids and it got lost in the mail(I applied from outside the USA) I contacted the ssa and they told me i have to reapply but in order to reapply don't I need a ssn but I didn't get the number and there when I applied for there passports i didn't put in a number so is there anything I can do?

I've ordered a new passport. Im 26 and lost my ss card. All I have for "proof" is my drivers license. Would that be enough to get a replacement SS card?

Hi@Famous Sorry for hte trouble. Get an I90 and submit that for your replacement - use copies of your original green card and your drivers license or other documents. Good luck!
