I have been visiting Thailand flor more than 25 years and I got family there as well. I can surely say that, from all the videos around about Thailand, your channel is one of the very few depicting Thailand as it is -its past and present, culture, religion, society- without nonsense. Congratulations and thank you. Keep it up please.

Sofitel hotel is a great place for a beer, at the rooftop bar. I used to visit place frequently. Westin's lounge is also another relaxing place for drinks, and after that I get to play pool at the nearby bars.

Thanks! Often when you book a hotel and have never been to the area you may regret commiting to booking too many nights if you don't like where it is, and Nana is not everyone's cup of tea.

@@BangkokPat I guess the tipping point was sitting in a taxi for an hour on my way back from MBK or my tailor to East Bangkok all the time.
As you suggest, Nana isn't really me but you have to see it once.
My Thai friend is an exec with a major hotel and I think she takes it personally when I don't stay there. They treat me like royalty when I arrive and it is difficult to resist.
It's an art form to decline or say 'no' in Thai - worthy of a video in itself.

There are many other places to enjoy a drink while soaking up the BKK atmosphere, and so long as you are discrete no one seems offended. Thanks for the video.

Soi 11 is a good place to stay. It has lots of places to eat and it's near the more busy parts of the area, but slightly removed. You can use the Nana BTS station to cross Sukhumvit Road which gives you clear access to Soi 8. There's an elevator just inside the walkway to the Q building that will take you back down to street level.

Hi Pat: Great post. After what will be three years of the 'no fly' we have had plenty of time to plan our next visit, and we had chosen soi 10 a year ago due to its access to the park. We used to stay closer to Queen's Park and would walk there every morning, but Benjakitti provides a much bigger loop that we have taken advantage of for a couple of years. And my favourite 'gold guy' is right on the corner of Suk 10.

When in BKK, Sofitel is always my go to hotel. Great breakfast, bone crunching Bose Sound system in the base suite and easy to get around. Or frasers suites at Soi 11. Washing machine/dryer and kitchenette in the studio rooms and full kitchen in the 1 bedroom apt. Bit of a walk to get to the main road but value for money, and cheaper than the sofitel. Both are "guest" friendly as well. 🤣

You showed a shot of that salt encrusted fish "pla phao". No matter how cool and comfortable shopping mall food courts are, I've never seen pla phao for sale in one, and it's really good with a bit of sauce!

Usually found being grilled on the street. Most food courts won't put a BBQ in there and to microwave it is criminal, it's gotta be fresh off the BBQ
