As an American, l really am not sure l should even have a say. I would like to see them more or less rule side by side. William and Catherine are more relatable because of their youth. Charles not as relatable or loved, a bit fussy. Camilla brings baggage, but it is not thought about these days. Anyway, many want the Monarchy to end, but l believe that if William is King, it would bring back popularity for a younger population.

A common misconception among foreigners, and some British people who should know better, is that Her Majesty can “pass the Crown” on to anyone whom she chooses. Legally, this is not so.
The British Sovereign cannot nominate his or her successor, so all kindly-meant suggestions that Prince William, Princess Charlotte or Winnie the Pooh should be “given the Crown” cannot be acted upon. Similarly, suggestions that the Crown should be “passed to William and Kate” are inadmissible, for the reason just cited and because there can only be one monarch at a time.
(There was an experiment in dual monarchy when William of Orange (William III) and his wife Mary II co-reigned from 1689 until her death in 1694, after which he carried on alone until he died in 1702. It has never been repeated.)
Those who want to abolish the Monarchy are a small minority in the United Kingdom. There was an attempt to set up a republic in the middle of the seventeenth century. It was not a success and lasted for ten years.
The British Crown cannot be passed around like an unwanted present, and neither is it an election nor a popularity contest. The succession to the Crown is governed by law, and it would take an Act of Parliament, and the agreement of those Commonwealth countries of which the British Monarch is also the Head of State, to change it.
The law of succession states that the Heir Apparent (currently Prince Charles) is the new monarch from the instant that the previous one dies (and not from his or her coronation, as is sometimes believed).
It’s also suggested that Prince Charles should abdicate in favour of his son. The Crown isn’t just a job; it’s a lifelong commitment, and to abdicate is a breach of trust. Prince Charles would never consider it. He has too strong a sense of duty.
A further point is that if the Monarch were to abdicate, there is a possibility that his or her descendants would be removed from the line of succession. Thus, if this were so, and Charles abdicated, his sons William and Harry would not be eligible for the Throne, and it would pass to his brother Andrew. I can’t find any definite answer to this question, and since there’s no complete written British Constitution, it would presumably be a case of “suck it and see”!
Comments such as so-and-so “deserves” or “does not deserve” to be King are nonsensical. The Crown is not a reward; it is a birthright. Similarly, extreme age (at either end of life) is no barrier.

I don't know why you are speculating about the Duke of Cambridge. The Queen's mother lived to over 100, so Elizabeth should be good for a few years yet. When she does go, Charles may be king for 25 years or so. William may not be king until 2050. There may not even be a UK by then if Scotland choses independence, and Northern Ireland to reunites with the Republic.
