  • Do you have a passion for collecting? Why not turn it into a career? Jim Sears has been selling baseball cards for more than 15 years and his Turf and Dirt sports trading cards shop is on track to make more than $750K in 2021. If you want to know how to sell baseball cards, you’ll want to watch this video.
Jim Sears started off working for another card shop. He saw a need for a healthier, more positive community for sports card collectors, and Turf and Dirt was born out of this idea in 2019. The pandemic closed their brick-and-mortar months after it opened, forcing them to sell sports cards through their eCommerce shop. That quick thinking kept their basketball card flipping business viable when others were forced to close.
One key to Turf and Dirt’s baseball card flipping success is their sponsorship with the Everett AquaSox, a Seattle Mariners affiliate. Today, we’ll find out how Jim secured that partnership and his advice for networking with sports card investors.
Jim didn’t just want to sell baseball cards when he opened Turf and Dirt-he aimed to build a sports card investor community. The customer side of football card flipping is a big part of any sports card business, and we’ll hear his advice for creating a culture that keeps customers coming back.
For collectors and sports fans, it’s a dream come true to sell baseball cards for a living, and Jim’s words of wisdom can help you do it the right way. You can learn more about Turf and Dirt online at turfanddirtsportscards.com/.

I literally went to this shop TWO WEEKS AGO!!! Bought a rookie Lamelo Ball and the dude was straight up. Honest and chill. Didn't say a word, I said I'm looking to invest in some Rookie cards to get a collection and profit years down the road...and he didn't correct me "cause I was a prior collector as a young kid and knew what direction to take for later sale" but actually got me some nice Rookie Basketball cards. Rookie James Wisemen, I'm sure he's more of a baseball fan but it was perfect.

The Card Boom is real. Props to those who can afford it and having fun collecting.(and those profiting) I feel bad for those people addicted to breaks and boxes that it's making them broke. I collect casually now and stick to single cards - if you go down the rabbit hole, a lot of your cash will be gone and cause you anxiety. Be responsible folks.. it's a hobby. I'm 41 years old now, and I started collecting cards when I was 12. I remember going to the card shops and trying to pull mutombos rc cards. I stop collecting cards in the early 2000s because all the card shops in my area close downed because of ebay. It's Great to see card shops opening up again because there's no better feeling then opening up a pack in the shop and landing the player you were chasing for.

The internet has increased accessibility to where you can buy what you want when you want it. I agree that the hobby is pricey. I've been reconnecting with those 1980s and 1990s sets I couldn't afford as a kid and going further back in time for less volatile vintage. I'll probably start buying 2021 cards in 10 years!

Great vid. Jim is a great interview. Fantastic camera presence. He and his wife couldn't be better suited for the biz. However, oh man, I don't like where this hobby is going for store owners. Jim said he was sitting on $2 million or so of product/inventory. Or, at least that's what he thought he could sell the store for if he sold the store today.
I'm old. I lived through the last card shop/hobby crash and burn. The current bubble is cool and profitable. Until it isn't.
Because of Jim's business being on so many internet platforms in addition to the physical store, it should be easy to see when the biz has run its course. Good luck friends.

One is cards/memorabilia and it’s far from me but not many boxes/packs, one is mostly Magic/Pokémon and doesn’t have much product at all, and the other, which is the closest one to me, is strictly boxes and he might have a few boxes open for packs. I think it’s awesome that you have the option to buy boxes/packs for every product here. Too bad you’re in Washington. I’ve always wanted to open a card shop but I fear, due to the ups and downs of the hobby, I’ll lose money. Congrats on your success 👏 love the store and it seems like you work very hard are humble and provide a great service to the community. I wish you were in Cleveland man I would stop in all the time. Question? Do you still have that signed gale Sayers jersey hanging up? If so how much are you asking?
