    best labrum repair testimony on youtube. informative and diverse and you nailed the common questions most of us are left wondering about. I'm paranoid about damaging my repair but your statement about the sling reassured me. And yes, sneezing and coughing and laughing can feel very unsettling on the shoulder during the healing process. I'm on day 9. fascinating shit.

    Just wanted to say I stumbled across your video series after I had my labrum repaired (8 weeks ago) and i have had my ups and downs since the operation. Thanks for putting all of the time into these videos. I spent a lot of time watching, comparing/contrasting etc. I still have a long way to go and I just wanted to say that having these as a resource is really helpful. Thanks again, hope your still feeling great , and I am looking forward to getting back to as close to 100% as I can.

    You've put together a fantastic series here my man.
    my story is some what similar to yours. started with a whip of a basketball almost 20 years ago. After that it was a subluxation here and there. Saw a couple surgeons who stated that i was pretty much borderline, but manageable.
    Then years of working in a warehouse started to get the better of me. And like yourself, the subluxations were now happening in my sleep. horrible wake up call. i remember scaring the crap out of my wife. lol.
    Anyway. After going through this about 4 or 5 times in less than a year it was time to get it sorted.
    i had the mild anxiety but felt minimal pain for the first day or two tops.
    I'm now 3 days past and feel quite good.
    i think the thing that's made it easier for me, is that the multiple pops previous to surgery allowed me to know the signs and the little tweaks that strike a nerve. so it's making things easier when it comes to avoiding pain.
    honestly, the aftermath so far had been a lot less worse than any of the dislocations i had.
    Sorry for killing your day with this long ass reply. lmao

      +Potter tons It sucks that you've had to endure this as long as you have, but I'm glad you decided to get it fixed! Thank you for the kind words and supporting the channel and the series. I just passed my 2-year mark from my last dislocation and coming up on the 2-year mark for surgery. I still feel great, have only the SLIGHTEST range of motion limitations (palm going behind parallel with arm fully extended), and never another worry about it happening again.
      Good luck with your recovery and feel free to ask questions if you have any throughout your recovery. I'm not a medical expert, but experience is 2nd to none.

    I started physical therapy by doing at hanging circles three days after my surgery. I also have a SLAP tear, bankhart tear and a biceps tenodesis. There basically wasn't much holding labrum onto the scapula. I have 8 anchors total.
    Yes, sneezing is awful. The worst part is when the nerve block wears off though. Advice use an ice machine basically 24/7. I had very minimal swelling and my physical therapist says it's the contestant cooling from the ice machine that helps with this.

    hey there Ive seen that your video is about a year old. Hows your recovery going? Im exactly post 6 weeks from labrum tear surgery (bankart). Just want to know did you feel the need to have the sling on for 6 weeks or maybe even longer or before the 6 weeks. Were there times when you would have it off? Just curious to ask because I had the sling on and off before the 4th week just because of it being uncomfortable sometimes. But I'd say most times I'd be sitting on a recliner or lying down. I feel like I need to check (if there is a way) if I've compromised the anchors. Whats your take on that?

    • @marcusaurelius161
      @marcusaurelius161  Před 7 lety +1

      First off, good luck with your recovery! Next, I would encourage you to watch the entire series that I made on this surgery on my channel. I document my recovery all the way up through 14-months post-op and I answer a lot of what you ask about in those videos.
      As far as checking to see if you compromised the anchors, there is not a way to tell outside of an MRI. Unless you did something very vigorous or the shoulder dislocated again, I would say you should be OK.

    I was having pain in my shoulder and then I finally went to an orthopedic doctor and got an MRI and found out that I have a slap tear. I started doing physical therapy for like a month and then they gave me stretches and exercises to heal it up. I did it for a short period of time and then just completely put it off (like eh, I'll do it tomorrow 🤔). Now for about a week I've been getting pain throughout my trapezius(?) muscle. From the neck to the top/back of my right shoulder. I really don't want to get surgery, so I'm in hopes that if I make it a regular thing to do the stretches and exercises, I can heal it up that way. I got the slap tear from repetitive motion. I've been doing the same thing at work for the past 6 1/2 years, lifting bins off of the floor filled with plastic parts from the press, dumping them on a table, sorting through and putting them in a box. If the physical therapy doesn't improve it then I'll have to get surgery 😒 Anyways, I'm glad that it all went well for you. During this pandemic, stay safe man. Peace ✌🏻

    Hello again. Thank you for the response. I have made it to week 6 and started actual Phyiscal Therapy once a week and i do exercises at home as well. Pain levels are definitely up there due to the therapy. Ice and me have gotten married because we are together all the time. I have had pain in my biceps more then the actual shoulder where they worked. I have got more details about thr surgery. I had a bankart tear and another slap tear cant recall what it's called. Also they had work a little on the rotator cuff as well. But the pain and some swelling is a normal thing because of the therapy? When i talked to my pt worker he did say there will be some pain and swelling there but ice will help. Thanks again

If you choose to take pain medication don't take ibuprofen, instead go for the acetaminophen. Don't push it too hard and don't try to come back too quickly. Let the healing process run its course.

      Ok, first off, TAKE YOUR TIME HEALING. If you mess this one up, you'll have to go through it all over again, and then you're REALLY talking about a long time. Secondly, everyone heals differently and experiences pain differently. If the doctor and the PT aren't concerned, then I would say you're OK. Keep doing what you're supposed to be doing, and stay away from things that are more than you should be doing. Set small goals and focus on those. Good luck with your continued recovery!

If he wants to, he can do the little isometric-type exercises while in the sling. Don't move the shoulder, but flex the muscles. Lastly, do the pendulums and get into Physical Therapy as soon as possible. Oh yea, and work that scar tissue!

      Marcus Aurelius hey man. I am actually doing a lot better than I thought. I still gotta get my stitches out but everything is clean for the most part. Can’t wait to gain full control of my arm again

    when you wake up are out of it or aware of everything

    • @marcusaurelius161
      @marcusaurelius161  Před 8 lety

      I was aware of everything going on around me. Really, it felt just like waking up in the morning; just a little groggy at first and almost wanting to sleep a little more but you're aware of everything. You'll get a wave of "alright, I'm good to go", but don't be fooled by this as it only lasts about 15 minutes and then all you want to do is sleep some more. Think of how you feel when waking up after taking allergy medication like Benadryl or flu medicine like Nyquil.

      When I woke up after mine I threw up twice. Then got up and walked out.

    I had mine done 5 weeks ago. I had a bankart fracture. 11 anchors for the labrum and a screw for the bone. Really wish mine was arthroscopic but ended up being open

      Open is tough, from what I hear, but sounds like you needed it. Hows the recovery going?

    I met a guy that had a 340 tear and he got nine anchors in.

    Could you do push-ups again at this point

    • @marcusaurelius161
      @marcusaurelius161  Před 6 lety

      Not even close. I could start doing push-ups somewhere around the 4-month point, but I was still SO weak that they were not traditional push ups. Thanks for supporting the series!

      Marcus Aurelius no thank you man, this is helping me get through this. I have one more question though, I am a varsity athlete and senior year is coming up and this injury has made me get really out of shape. Is there any workout I can actually do or anything I can do to stay in shape? I am 2 weeks post op. Thank you for your reply

      You can always send me a "message" on here. That would be the best way to reach me, privately.
