In today's video I discuss the different commissioning routes available for Marine Corps Officers. There are plenty of ways to get in, but that doesn't mean they are easy. Expect to be met with great challenge if you desire the opportunity to "earn the title" as a Marine.

Yes, OCC is the Officer Candidates Course, though it could be considered an "in-school" program from your definition for those who are finishing their junior year or in their senior year of college since they are too late to do the two separate PLC summer sessions (Junior & Senior). I chose the OCC program at the beginning of my senior year as it was too late to choose PLC. I graduated from college in early June and then reported within a few days of graduation to the summer OCC class (1984). It may have changed though I believe OCC classes start in June, October and January (3 times yearly). My one suggestion is being very physically fit with thick skin and strong moral conviction of never quitting. While OCS "screening and evaluation" is officially broken down as 50% Leadership, 25% Academics, and 25% Physical Fitness, most every officer I spoke with over my 21-year career would better categorize it as 60% Physical Fitness (and mental toughness), 20% Leadership and 20% Academics. I found that being a good runner was my best prep for surviving OCS in the hot Quantico summer (sub 18 min 3-mile), where I added the upper body strength part in the few months before OCS. I'd make sure you can do a 280+ PFT before shipping off to Quantico. Keep Attacking!! LtCol Doug Olsen, USMC (Ret).

Hey bro if you don’t mind me asking I am thinking of doing the same thing, so how do you pay for college and room, we’re you able to work and how is it to work while doing plc, college and reserves?
Maybe a bit late with this comment, but regarding attending a service academy to obtain a Marine Corps Commission, ANY cadet from any of the service academies, Navy, West Point, and Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine can opt for a Marine Corps Commission. I am a retired Marine Corps LtCol and had many colleges who attended all of these institutions.
I have a question. I know I’m kind of late but is going reserve then plc worth it? Or should I just go for plc right away?
Going reserves then PLC, if you’re end goal is going PLC and becoming an officer anyways, Is really not worth it. There’s not much benefit, you’ll just end up spending more time (w Parris island and all the entry level training as an enlisted marine) only to wait for OCS, which will then also require further training. If you want to do PLC (so be an officer) Id recommend you go for it straight away. The only reason some do that is because they have disqualifying aspects that wouldn’t allow them to be an officer, yet if they were enlisted already it wouldn’t be an issue, this is pretty much the only logical reason to my knowledge
Does leatherneck have the quigley like OCS does? I'm weighing my options for my future career and don't want to have to swim through a culvert, that shit freaks me out lmfao.
Enlisted at 20 last summer, was gonna join the USMC, went with the Air Force instead

@@malakairamirez4856I never did serve in the military but highly thinking of it. I know a few marines myself and they all said go AF. Mainly they all told me “the quality of life in the air force is better then the marines” just thought I would share that
Hello! I just finshed MEPS today actually. I enlisted for 4 years active and 4 years ready reserve. I know I can switch to reserve if id like to go to college first. It is only committed when I go to bootcamp. What are my options? If I pick reserve, then go 6 years reserve and get a college degree could I then enlist again as an officer. Like what are my options if I have enlisted already. But I’m 17 and have months until I graduate and actually make my decision.
You can enlist in military for 4 years active. Switch to reserves, your college would be paid for. You must apply in universities NROTC approved.
Can I just do four years at a normal college to get my bachelors and then become a second lieutenant? Their site says I would do two six week courses(summer before junior year and summer before senior year) then I would graduate college and go straight to TBS. Would a normal college work as well?
Hi, a little confused as to your question. Schooling is completely separate from OCS (the courses you’re referring to). A normal college is the only option for PLC, the other option at most normal schools is NROTC, then lastly there’s the service academy route (naval academy or merchant marine academy). Past this, you can apply for OCC after you’ve graduated if you won’t be applying/working towards a commission while in college

Want to become a officer asap. 20 years old. 2 years trade school so far. What path do I take to get there? Like do I start as recruit and then start going to school for what I want to learn like aviation and that counts as my two extra years for school? And what else. Thank u for anyones response.
ASAP path: Get Bachelors first since there is NO WAIVER for that if you want to go Commission immediately without Enlisting, and be fit. Then get in contacted with a OSO, that person will sort you out on what to do
Enlist fast path: Go Enlist first, and do school while as Enlisted. Once you get your Bachelors, you can go ECP as early as an E-3
