      The roster is probably the worst in the nfl yet only a couple of their loses were real blowouts. In most of those games they're in position to win but just don't have the talent to execute. If the lions managed to put up 20 points every game (besides the one they won) they'd actually be sitting at 6-7 rn. As a packer fan, if the lions give MCDC some talent to work with, I think they'd be a real threat to win the division in the future.

    As a dolphins fan i feel like i can expertly answer this question. Not only because Dan campbell was our interim head coach for half a season but as someone who has seen a revolving door of coaches for quite some time. Some coaches are good people and not bad coaches. They may not get the job done but it could be for many reasons not just from coaching. For instance tony sporano was a pretty good coach and good guy who the players liked but he never really got the job done and was a little too conservative calling games. On the other hand people like adam gase or joe philbin are not only terrible coaches but also massive ego having douche waffles. They think their losing is a result of everyone else around them and will never correct their mistakes to get better.
    So I don't know if Dan Campbell will get the job done for lions yet, but he's the kind of coach that at least deserves the chance because they actually want to win and the players will play hard for them no matter what. Urban meyer is the kind of coach the fans want gone because he's got an ego and thinks his genius is merely being obstructed by others. The kind that wont learn from their mistakes.

    It's sad and depressing to watch people trying their hardest and still failing, like the Lions. It's satisfying to watch the Jaguars fail because Urban is an awful person who got an unearned position and is being ultimately taken down by his players - the people doing the work that often have the least power in college. There's really no comfort in watching the Lions lose. I can't even make fun of how bad they are like the Texans who also have clearly identifiable issues.

    Urban is used to having all of his players by the balls. The NFL isn’t like that. In college, if your players don’t buy into what you’re doing you can cut them and have another 5 star recruit take their place. In the NFL, if your players aren’t buying into what you’re doing, you’re the one who’s not gonna last long. Once your team quits on you in the NFL, you’re a dead man walking. I think he’ll be gone at the end of the year.

    • @nuraby_9228
      @nuraby_9228 Před 2 lety +3

      Exactly. It's a massive change going from 18-22 year olds that you can cut on a whim, to professional athletes under contract, some of whom have been in the game just as long as you. Lots of great college coaches like Saban and Kelly can't handle it, and get run out of the NFL as a result.

  • @ir2mean

    I think the difference between the two shows the "soft" skills required to be a good coach, outside of wins and losses. HCs can get many coordinators/coaches to focus on individual components (offense, defense, specific positions etc), but it's about managing the group as a whole, and
    fostering an environment where people are pushing for themselves and the team.
    Through endless examples, Meyer showed that he acted as though he was above the team (working less hours, skipping flights, talking down and antagonizing players/coaches) while Campbell acts as if he is fighting in the trenches with the team. Even if they ended up with the same record, it's clear which team is fighting to their limit. And if it doesn't show in the box score now, that culture will pay dividends later on.

    Everyone loves Dan Campbell. So many of his best players, on a really weak roster, are out for the season and yet he keeps getting performances out of guys nobody has ever heard of. Players on a 1-10 team should be checked out, that’s the norm, but you’re not seeing that in Detroit. I don’t know that he’s a brilliant Xs and Os guy, so maybe how far he can take a team will be limited, but DC might be the best coach in the league when it comes to motivating players. It’s really fun to watch this bad football team play.

    To me, Dan Campbell is a clone of Bill Cowher. Detroit, with how much he is loved, gets rid of him after how well they have played in most games, only losing several by 1 score, would be a stupid move. Give him another draft and another season and I can see 10 wins easily. He's transforming that team, and the nexus of negativity that permeated the Lions for decades. Let Big Dan work his magic and you will have a winning culture there!!

    Earning the respect of a 21 year old athlete with a roommate and a weed habit is different than that of a 30 year old athlete with two kids and a house in the suburbs. Chip Kelly and Bobby Petrino couldn't get this right either. They could scheme up an offense that Brady himself would gush over, but they can't lead grown men.
