English and German are both Germanic; Spanish, French and Italian are Romance, thus it's not that hard to choose if they already come from the same groups. I talked with some korean friends and they have this stereotype, i don't know where it comes from.
Funny cause for many others (and for me) at least STANDARD italian and not when spoken with strong dialectical inflections, is one of the softest language ever.
Plus, as i wrote in another comment, there is the phenomenon of the "selective sterotyping", so even if they get to hear the soft part of the language they tend to reinforce their idea with the cases where it's a little more aggressive. (like one of my friends took as example people talking at the Rome station like...Really? XD then i spoke a standard formal one and she was like shocked of how soft it was).
P.S: speaking loudly doeans't mean speaking aggressively lol, being aggressive is more in the tone and intention not the decibels ahah.

I really don't think this particular case is one of selective stereotyping, also because there is no indication that this person is Italian, that would be an assumption.
So, I know and agree that selective stereotyping is a thing. But I don't see how it's applicable in this particular case; unless you assumed that person to be Italian.
About how Italians look... I fully agree with you. My girlfriend somewhat looks like a Southern European (Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Greek). It's in fact very well possible that she has such ancestry (though it must be from very long ago (definitely before Napoleon); Roman times or the Spanish invasion in the 16th century; or mercenaries, Byzantine migrants, Italian or Portuguese traders etc.) I'm from Flanders (near the Netherlands) and well; it's geopolitcally (and historically) known for two things; being the battlefield of Europe and having some of the most prominent ports of Europe, like Bruges and Antwerp. And at school, in my class of 15-18 people, at least 2 other people looked like the "average" person from Southern Italy. Here's the thing though; in my girlfriends family, only her father looks somewhat like her; all her siblings don't. My best friend; pale as hell, brown-blonde hair, freckles and all, skin burned in Athens after being 20 minutes in the sun; his parents are the exact same; yet his brother is just like my girlfriend when it comes to skin tone, hair etc.

It was interesting to see German being called soft for a change, I speak a Norwegian accent that can sound like German to someone who speak neither language, so we kinda share the comments on sounding harsh, as what most folks hear of Norwegian are the folks in Eastern Norway who roll their Rs, they get confused if they travel through Norway, as you could travel 30 minutes and suddenly the dialect changed, East they speak pretty much as Norwegian is written, South they speak what is what you could imagine Danish would sound like if they pronounced all the letters instead of choking on them, Middle is hard to describe but most their dialects are nice to listen to, North they've mostly removed the language and communicate mostly through filthy cusswords while smiling and being friendly, and here in West it's as if we decided to use the second written language in Norway, Nynorsk, but pronounce all the words as if we were speaking with a stereotypical German or French accent. There's plenty of mixes around between them as they kinda gradually fade between each stereotype as you travel, so if ya drive North, going through the middle, you find a point where they're cussing like a sailor but with a really nice dialect. :P
