First Time using a HOT Tent | Building my BASE CAMP EP1

  • HI Campers,
    I finally build myself a Basecamp in the wild forest of Northern California.
    I find a great spot in the Plumas National Forest along a mountain stream to build my first "permanent" camp! I clear some brush, level the ground set up my White Duck Regatta Bell Canvas tent. I install my Winnerwell wood burning tent stove for heat. This is going to be part of my ongoing video series with my new Base Camp in the mountains.
    sincerely,
    Base Camp Chris

    Beautiful spot for your base camp near the babbling brook. Great looking hot tent and wood stove. You'll want to put a fireproof mat under the stove to protect the tent floor from heat or embers that may fall. Also fireproof backing in back of the stove, against the tent wall to protect it. Looking forward to the next video and scary story!

    Brows man from NorCal here. I anticipate many fireside chats with all that dead wood around. Don’t forget to mention Bigfoot since you are in Bigfoot territory. If you know a Bigfoot invite him to the fireside chat. A friend of my brother was a Bigfoot researcher and he carved a well known statue of him with a chainsaw many years ago!

    Who is Base Camp Chris without a base camp? 😄😄 Cool set up, but please, no fires in our dry, tinderbox forests unless there is snow on the ground! All the crunchy dry duff on the ground....it only takes a spark to burn the forest and communities down. Just use a propane stove and forget the fire pit, it's fire season all year long here. ✌️❤️

    Seeing all that deadwood, it's no wonder CA has such a problem with wildfires! Were it me, I'd love the opportunity to camp there and build some Beaver Dam Analogs. If you haven't researched BDA's, I highly recommend it. They are great fun to build, and you certainly have enough materials for it. A real boon to the ecosystem that's starving for the return of their keystone species, and they help mitigate wildfires.

  • @instinctivechannel6668

    hi nice video I like that tent that vent at bottom can be a vent when tents close and the stoves running it allows cool air to flow to feed stove I seen it in a few mine has it just for that to feed the stove but on other hand yes it can be way to run wires or other devices in deep snow that tent all around is sealed by snow that vent keeps one spot open for air these stoves require lots of air to run last you want is no vented air to feed flame and person inside all in all I like that tent colors excellent mind friendly thanks for the video nice spot lots of wood stream next to nice👍

    Hi Chris,. I have been enjoying your videos for a while and find them informative and inspiring. While watching this video three things came to mind that you may have considered, but feel that I should mention them just in case you haven't. (1) Widowmakers. (2) Flooding. I couldn't tell if you were clearing driftwood, but heavy rain can bring that stream out of its banks very quickly. Make sure you're above the high watermark. (3) Cooking in the tent. Since that is going to be a permanent camp, ensure all food spills are cleaned up very well. It doesn't take much for forest critters to smell it, and with no one around, they will chew or rip their way into the tent. If you have already considered these issues, please accept my apologies. Looking forward to your next video. Fred

    • @basecampchris
      @basecampchris  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Fred....appreciate the concerns...I have thought about the creek...it is a small intermittent creek ( will run dry once summer comes ) and I am actually about 4 feet up above it with the tent. Widow makers are always a concern....I have some healthy trees around the tent ...as far I I can see. I have decided to not do any cooking in the tent...unless it is boiling water for coffee/ tea. or mid winter when bears are hibernating. . There are no guarantees with anything but precautions always help so Thank you!!
