What was wrong with Section 28? Why the new government guidelines for schools are wise

- Thirty-five years ago, there was a lot of fuss when the promotion of homosexuality was banned in schools. Something similar is now happening with the teaching of ‘trans’ ideology.

I am always highly suspicious of anyone who wants to introduce sexualised material to children.
@@CliveofEngIand As an older American woman living in London I agree.
Introducing children to sexualized material should be a crime, as it steals their innocence.
Children given these kind of progressive mindsets will not fare well if future society becomes more intolerant. The possibility that this could happen becomes more real everyday.
@@CliveofEngIand Yes, I agree with fake-Clive here about peddling sexy stuff to kiddies. It's not on!
Again something else should have been dealt with ages ago . Let children have the chance of an innocent childhood , or is that too much to ask .
Pink Floyd's "Teacher! Leave them kids alone!" is prescient.
👍 And the "flying pink pig" was Pink Floyd's way of portraying these s ick pe ople.🤔
Was the Floyd's Arnold Layne an early song about a tranny or just a bloke who had a woman's knickers fetish?
"Hey teacher, leave my arse alone!"
I've always hated that song, but until recently, have never quite been able to verbalize why. And I am a former primary school teacher. The guitarists son turned out well having had a private education though...not.
My son is 17, just found out they were taught about bottom sex in sex Ed, I was so shocked and upset, why can't they just teach about birds and bees like we were, I never knew anybody who was gay at school, and nowadays that's all they want to be, sick of all this crap just stop teaching our kids rubbish
They've changed it from a natural, biological function to something that goes great with poppers and anal beads.
Did they tell them it damages their organs and causes diseases.
The real problem is:
Parents passing this responsibility to government and not doing it themselves.
You get somebody to do something else for you, don't complain when they don't do it like you would
Same sex relationships have been a feature of every civilisation since humans evolved and a minority in every population must be genetically predisposed to it. However, the Long March into western institutions has moved the emphasis from rightly accepting of gay lifestyles to actively promoting them in the classroom to youngsters whose brains are still developing - often while denigrating heterosexuality.

Growing up in the 50s I didn't feel the need to "come out" as such. I didn't broadcast my homosexuality, people just figured it out (I was, and still am, a very effeminate person), and they just left me alone so long as I kept myself to myself.

The activists seem not to be listening to thosr they actually claim to be protecting. Perhaps they are only protecting themselves.
Good for you mate. I think today it is seen as something more than a life choice. It seems they want to offend instead of living their lives.
I was a Youth and Community worker until 2001 and thought section 28 made complete sense. I worked with boys who had been SA and now in their teens thought they were gay because they'd been groomed by the abusers for years!
The psychology of child development shows how this works and how they form attachments to their abusers.
I'm horrified at what goes on in schools these days 😢
Look up the Professor Kentler German experiment between the 1960s and 90s where, with the approval of the Berlin Senate, hundreds of boys were fostered in the homes of known p-files to 're-socialise' them, with predictable results. The boys became conditioned and attached to the abusers but the 'expert opinion' of the p-file Professor outweighed any criticism or attempts to close down the scheme until the 90s. Similar institutionalised abuse occurred in Britain, of course.
Excellent comment.

You ever listen to former American president Nixon’s conversations on homosexuality? He predicted all this insanity we are dealing with!
Is it somewhere on the CZcamss?
This is what Lord Arran, the man who proposed the decriminalisation of homosexuality in England had to say when the bill was passed:
"I ask those [homosexuals] to show their thanks by comporting themselves quietly and with dignity ... any form of ostentatious behaviour now or in the future or any form of public flaunting would be utterly distasteful ... [And] make the sponsors of this bill regret that they had done what they had done".

One of my teachers was obviously gay but never, ever, referred to it. Then again, straight and married teachers never felt the need to bring sexuality up in those days - unless in the embarrassing sex ed classes.

This is so damn sick. None of this was going on in schools back in my day. I was a tomboy, but I sure would hate to think if I was then brainwashed into believing I was a boy. I hated being a girl (as boys had all the fun), but it would have been AWFUL had I been convinced to have gender reassignment. Never would have happened though. I would know better.
Frankly, I don't think many youngsters could be convinced of that anyway (unless they were mentally very weak to begin with), because children are smarter than what most people give them credit for. I don't know about these days though. It's a clown world now.

Unfortunately, as soon as homosexuality was normalised, the clock was ticking. The slipper slope is real, and it just keeps getting worse as time goes on.
Homosexuality is 'normal' for some individuals. And the majority of such simply wish to be treated with the same respect and understanding that we are all entitled to. They are not the ones pushing this whole ridiculous and damaging gender ideology. Nor do they wish to 'turn' the whole world gay. What is abnormal is trying to persuade/bully children into doubting their sexuality and / or gender. Often cynically playing on those adolescent confusions which most teenagers experience at some point, in order to convince them they are something other than either a male or female human being.
@@christinerussell113 Correct. It's postmodernist 'woke' leftists who often aren't even gay that are promoting the race, gender and sexuality ideology in the west. It originated in the universities and has spread from there into all western institutions.

@CliveofEngland. Although a heterosexual myself, I listen to my gay friends, a couple, like you, in the older age group, and they are horrified by what has been happening. Life for gay men and women was once extremely tough, something which I am sure you won't need to be reminded of. The pendulum has certainly swung too far in the opposite direction. Beyond the 3 Rs I can't really see the point in school. Other than being a programming centre.
When I was in primary school in the 90s we just leaned the basics: How a baby is made.
And in secondary in they went into STIs and sex myths at both 12-13 and 15-16.

It is not the responsibility of the government or education authority to teach aspects related to sex. It is the responsibility of the parent. The line has always been that there needs to be more sex education and this will reduce the amount of under age pregnancies. This however does not appear to have happened. If anything sex education needs to either be removed or reduced greatly. As for alternative sexual preferences. Again there is no reason why the government or local authority should be pushing this onto children. Leave the kids alone and stop grooming them.

While no school child of any age needs to know about transexualism, seeing as how human sexuality raises its head for everybody around the age of 12 or 13, I do see the need for them to be at least aware of homosexuality. It's a tough one Simon! You use the phrases "promote and encourage" and if that was solely the issue then we are on the same page. Unfortunately it's not. Time's have changed since the good old days and Young children are being exposed to all these new norms that liberalism and Internet technology has gifted us. We can't put the genie back in the bottle so we need to educate in an "age appropriate" manner. Not easy as the childrens exposure and awarenesses varies very differently. School's are very much the front line and the poor old teacher has to have a brief. Throw in the religious viewpoints and suddenly it's way more complicated. But it's my opinion school should be a place learning and absolute trust and safety for all children and the teachers must be allowed to use their discretion on this subject sometimes on a one to one basis if the child is confused, advanced or at risk, and escalate the matter accordingly in the latter. You must do a longer in depth deliberation on this subject Simon without prejudice as you normally do.

Section 28 did not outlaw homosexuality but did ban its 'promotion' in schools. Whether that was right or wrong, the public were simply not ready for the open celebration of homosexuality, which many people still thought unnatural, in the education of children and adolescents.
An early example of a liberal establishment running way ahead of where the majority of ordinary people were, and stirred up a baclash. Hence, if you believe in democracy, there was a case for saying that the zealots needed to slow down a little until society was ready.
The state's only vested interest in public education is to ensure there is a generally literate public capable of reading, writing and performing basic arithmetic calculations. So public education should probably end around the third grade.
