What'd you think of our first grocery haul? Aren't Mommy and Daddy Lau the cutest? Let us know if you'd like to see more!
@@gardenlady3344 thank you so much!
Yes, love the grocery haul videos and learning how to select the best cuts! Your parents remind me of mine. 😊
@@shihsaidwhat awww yay! Your parents must be pretty awesome
My mom definitely taught me to always check the receipt too.
@@pandamonium2851 super smart moms!! ❤️
One day these videos are going to be priceless. There is nothing sweeter than parents teaching their kids how to thrive in life. And it was always so adorable when Papa Lau called him "son," every time he had something to show him or teach him. So sweet! Great job by Mama Lau, Papa Lau and Son!
Thanks so much Uhn! You are absolutely right these videos really will become so priceless. Even now I feel so grateful that we are capturing them. 🙏🏼 We appreciate you watching and can't wait to share more videos with you!
Great 👍!
@@MadeWithLau What city are you guys in? I live in San Diego and these look very same to me.
I love your parents and the wealth of knowledge they are sharing in these videos. So lucky to have them pass down their tips!
Thank you for the kind words :) We are grateful to be a resource for you! I totally agree - it will be so special to pass down to our kids as well in the future :)
Enjoy the style of your Dad & your mothers comments cooking.
Mommy Lau: Brush off the ice from the squid.
LOL - Not gonna pay extra for that ice on the scale! And asking the cashier about the Senior Discount day. Classic Mom moves!
Hahaha Classic Mom! From that to the checking the receipt it doesn't get any better than that 🙌
Hahaha..Daddy Lau replied: how to brush off the ice ah
LOL! Your parents are so cute arguing about the groceries! Definitely remind me of my parents. Great tips on picking the best stuff. Can't wait to see the rest of the series about hot pot!
Yes they are so adorable! I had a lot of fun documenting and sharing this haha. Looking forward to sharing more with you!!
It is funny. But it's not arguing, in Chinese culture, it's pretty normal talk 😂😂
Can we start making requests?! Would love to learn how to make Chinese brisket with daikon from your dad!
Oooo that’s a good one! Added to our list! Keep em coming :)
Bless your mother for calling it Ranch 99. We’ll never be silenced. #TeamRanch99
HAHAHA yes #TeamRanch99 - that's how I've always said it too! I would've said it in all of the voiceovers and text but didn't feel like explaining myself lol.
I was today year's old when I found out it is 99 Ranch and not Ranch 99. Oh well, too late to change my ways. #TeamRanch99
@@CourtneyinSF i mean that's how they say it in Canto! it only makes sense!
@@MadeWithLau wait.... when has it NOT been ranch 99? mindBLOWN

This video reminded me of so many childhood memories going grocery shopping with my parents. It was a good refresher on tips and tricks, too!
Awww that's so great to hear! We're touched that this video brought back such great memories and we're grateful to be a resource for you!!
Love that Mama Lau is always repeating "Fresher ones at the bottom" in both supermarkets.
I just discovered your channel and wow. Your parents are true gems…so much wisdom and humility. I’m learning so much watching this channel! Wishing you all good health and prosperity!
I like the sincerity with which Mr Lau teaches to choose, prepare & cook tasty & yet common Cantonese dishes. Tq Mr Lau
1:20 And here I was thinking my Papa was the only one who pulls the cart instead of pushing it! 😂
Leaders stand in front! lol!
OMG! That was like shopping with my parents, except for the wine. Too funny.
Hahaha yeah so much gold in here. They're so cute!
Thank you Randy . You are so inspiring and thank you for sharing your Chinese traditions. I’m Chinese from Hong Kong but was unfortunate to not have been able to understand a lot of the traditions due to a variety of reasons but you are helping me understand my culture better. And I’m a Lau too! I adore your dad !!!
Kids and Costco can learn a lot of things from this video. Getting feedback directly from consumer.
Thank you for sharing this! It felt like I was going shopping with my parents again lol! They live on the other side of the country (Canada) from me so I don't get to see them as much as I would like, especially with everything going on now. It's very considerate of you to put in the time stamps, I know that's extra work :) I can't wait for the knife skills video - I've always been in awe of my mom wielding a huge cleaver to cut everything. It feels so foreign to me as I've always used a chef's knife as my main knife. I love how Mommy Lau explains everything again in English after Daddy Lau says it in Cantonese. I'm looking forward to many more videos :)
Awww thanks for the love! I hope you get to reunite with them soon!
Glad you appreciate all of the little details like time stamps :) Excited to share our knife skills video with you and more!
Great video! so glad i found this channel! I'd love to see more videos like this grocery shopping haul and learn how your parents pick their groceries, what to look for, etc.
I love this video! I have never really known how to properly select meat, but now I do! I can't wait for the upcoming videos and maybe I will attempt to set up a hotpot for my family! Thanks again!

Love to watch your video. Remind me lots of Chinese food.
2 of my favorite stores. I'm so happy I found this channel. We have a Japanese grocery closer to us, but once in a while I make the trek out to the Milpitas Ranch 99. I think the produce is better than I get at the American supermarkets.
Thanks you for the video. I enjoyed it so much. Your parents are great like mine. Love 💕

Wow, I loved this video.Your parents are awesome. Beautiful family. It was a great idea filming and sharing all this important information. My spouse Alex grabs items at the market and he likes to buy the ones that are already cut. I tell him is more expensive. We also shop at Costco, so when we go, I’ll practice your tips. It’s a blessing to learn from you.👍🏼❤️🙏👨🍳
Aw, thank you so much for watching and your kind words Inocencio! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed watching this video. We hope the next time you go to Costco or a regular store you are able to find delicious pieces of meat! Wishing you and you Alex a Happy New Year filled with many blessings ❤️🙏🏼
Love this! I never knew exactly how to buy meat in grocery store.
Thanks for the love! We're so grateful to be a resource for you :) Glad to hear this was helpful!
This is my favorite video from your channel. Very informative! The older generation Chinese have a lot of tricks when it comes to buying quality meat. I buy most of my meat at Costco too
This is my favourite channel on CZcams now😘 been watching a lot of your videos to cook for my Chinese bf 😆
love your parents wonderful generous people .
OK I just want to say that this was a REALLY helpful video for a white lady who is recently getting into Chinese cooking. I have so many ingredients in my house that I bought to make 1 recipe and now I don't know how to use them for other dishes - that could be an idea for a video? Maybe like a trip to the grocery store with your parents talking about common ingredients that westerners might not be so familiar with and telling us how to use them etc.? They talked about the taro root and that was very helpful as I am not familiar with it! Anyway loved it, your parents are so cute and funny. My mom is very careful to check all the receipts as well must be a mom thing!! :)
Awwww that’s so awesome to hear! Those are great ideas! What ingredients did you end up buying?
this video is SO useful! i always get overwhelmed at the chinese supermarket, good to know what to look for
Awww thank you! We're so grateful to be a resource for you :)
I’m seeing this 3 months late but this brought fond memories of shopping with my parents. Thank you for this.
You are most welcome! Thank you for watching. We appreciate your support and can't wait to keep sharing our family videos with you! ❤️
I love going shopping with your parents!
We are so happy to hear you enjoyed going shopping with Mom & Dad!
Im not chinese but i have chinese friends who now live in another country. Im trying to make hotpot with zero experience. Thank you for this video and for the subtitles. There is nothing better than learning how to pick and cook chinese food from chinese parents, very authentic, sending love to your parents. Subscribing to this wonderful informative channel! xiexie
I just love this! Thanks for the tips :-)
Thank you so much Little Rose Em! So happy you found this video and enjoyed it 🥰
This was so helpful!
Great shopping tips!
Thanks Arena!!!
I love the gentle fun poking with the "show them" counter. ;)
Sadly in the US, the organic labels are largely useless. Small farms that are working to raise their animals well aren't going to be able to pay for the certification and aren't able to supply the massive chain stores. Rather than looking for a sticker that is not properly managed, look for a local butcher or farm that can supply meat. Again, time, money, resources all contribute to the ability to do this as a consumer.
Ahaha yes I had fun with that as well. That's a great point, I should have made a note about that in the video as well to shop local and support smaller farms.
Do you think the organic label is better than no label at all?
You dad not just experience on cooking but knowledgeable on each products for cooking that a plus for having parents like that
Thank you so much 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♀️ We are so grateful that you are enjoying our family's videos and learning from my parents!
Very nice video and so cute, both your parents.....sweet too!
thank you so much for all of this :):’)
You are so so welcome! Thanks so much for tuning in 😊
Hahahaha, can't wait for the fruit/veg video where Auntie and Uncle will take half an hour to buy the best yu choy, bok choy, long beans, apples, shallots, etc. To this day, I'm the weirdo in the produce section looking over every single string bean I put into my bag. Edit: oho, I spoke too soon, I didn't see the segment on produce XD oh well, I still demand a fruit/veg video!
I remember being a teenager forced to pick out bean by bean I was so jealous of the other customers who just came and shoved handfuls of green beans in a bag!
@@kyungseo6908 I literally experienced that with chilies last week! I was picking out the nicest ones, and I noticed that a guy was waiting for me to finish. I let him go so that he wouldn't wait like 10 minutes, and he scooped out what must have been 4 pounds of chilies! And not wimpy chilies, but the Thai bird's eye chilies!! No choice but to stan.
@@emmaghows3841 Ahaha gotta make sure we get the best ones! I was tempted to edit out more of my parents picking out vegetables but I was like.. this is part of my actual experience. Don't want to deprive people of getting to wait for their parents picking out the best ones lol.
This really was lots of fun! Your parents are certainly very cute! Great tips here! You know I've actually never been to a Costco before so it was exciting to see what it's like. I know I'd get so lost in there, look at all that selection!!
Oh wow! You'll have to go sometime. They also have A LOT of free food samples haha. You can literally each lunch there.
Hey bud, I feel a kindred spirit with you. My mom is the chef in my family and our hometown is Sun Wue (Canto) or Xing Hue (Mandarin) which as next to Toishan. I've been learning some dishes from my Ma but I enjoy learning from your father so I can surprise my Ma with a few things she may not have known. Thanks for the amazing content. My daughter should be around your son's age, too. My family now resides in Nevada but we are originally from CA. If your family ever visits Las Vegas in the future please reach out! It'd be fun to connect!
hahaha your dad with the cilantro "just grab any!"
very informative video! from the little vocab pop up with the jyutping to learning how to recognize quality meat and veg, its really helpful. on a usual grocery run, do your parents buy for the week or month? I have a bad habit of buying ingredients for things I'm excited to make but I don't have the time/energy to before it goes bad :( I'm trying to learn how to gage how long to keep ingredients and when I should buy to make
Ahaha yes so classic lol. They usually buy it for the week or buy meat in bulk and freeze them. I am the same haha, some of our stuff sits for way too long in our fridge!
Love this so interesting!!!
Thanks for the love! So glad you're enjoying it :)
I love the way I learn cantonese at the same time as cooking...your parents remind me of my grandparents... and parents as they go through a market... there's a channel you should check out called Chinese or cantonese catch phrase that I loved
Love the way your parents communicate during groceries. Exactly same as how my parents communicate with each other. My dad was a vegetarian chef for 25 years. And he always comment on the stuff that my mum picks. “Why you pick this?” “That’s better”... usually in the other families, the mother is the one has the says during groceries shopping... but not in my family
I would love to watch more shopping videos!
Awww yay! So glad to hear :) We are excited to share more with you!
Thank you so much for the recipes that my mother and father taught me years ago I have since forgotten
Oh yay! We are so happy to hear that Rose! We hope that when you make them, the dishes taste just like how your parents made them 🥰
I always check my receipt, too! I love Ranch 99!
WOW I go to the same Costco and 99 Ranch!! Good to know about purchasing meats :D
Exactly what I needed in my life
...I never check the receipt😅 Where polite Canadian upbringing dominates over my Chinese roots.

That was sooooooo wholesome
I just wanted to thank you for this video. Not just for your parents’ great tips and guidance on purchasing foods, but also for sharing the priceless time spent with your parents. I used to take my father to the market in the years before he passed. He was a stickler for expiration dates which has stuck with me. His vision was failing and I have a permanent memory of looking at him at the far end of the bread isle peering intently at the ends of the loaves of his favorite bread for the latest expiation date. Had the loaf maybe 2 inches from his eyes. Despite his eyes and other challenges, he stuck with the kinds of rules your folks are teaching you here. Please take every moment you can with them, treasure every second, even if it’s frustrating and you’ll have a treasure trove of wonderful memories when they’ve gone to the great shopping market in the sky. Sadly, it can happen in a flash. Thanks again and all the best to you and your wonderful family.
I love how they bicker in the grocery store. There's such a nice homey vibe to this :)
Awww yes me too! They're so great :) I especially love capturing those moments and being able to share them with you and the community!
