Thanks for walking thru for those of us who have no knowledge of this! Very informative for those newbs in middle eastern cooking and foods!
So glad--and if you have any questions let me know! ;)
So many brands of Arak at Mosaic Market! Arak is good not only for a tummy rub, but also as a (tasty) anesthetic for toothaches. A small piece of cotton soaked in Arak is a great local temporary pain killer.
That's right how could I forget that!!
Wonderful! I will definitely stop by there!
ok this market blows my local middle eastern market out of the water. you're so fortunate to have access to all of this in your city! ice cream from Rukab and Knafeh from Habeeba!? omg
I know right? I went berserk, this place is brand new so they know what they are doing!
@@blanchetv whats the nationality of its owner
This is wonderful to be introduced to Middle Eastern Foods about which I would like
to discover. Chef Ms Blanche is splendid in her narrations. With a sensitive Storewelcome
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
Bless you and family, Blanche! Great to see the real stuff, your recipes are a part of family life for us, even here in Seoul :)
Honored to be a part of your menu all the way in Seoul, I LOVE Korean food and culture!
Very nice middle eastern store! A lot of the stuff is sold in supermarkets in Amman jordan.
My husband made the molikhia stew. It was completely new to me as I didn't even eat spinach. I fell in love with it so he would make it often for me. Been 20 years since I've had it but as soon as you talked of the molokhia leaves, I knew what it was and my mouth watered. YUM!
Honestly is one of the healthiest foods you can ever eat--glad you like it! ;)
Very interesting...thank you. You made me want to visit my local Middle Eastern market this weekend!
Do it--it's so much fun!
Nice video wish we had such a big Middle Eastern supermarket in Germany .
Great video 📹my friend. Thanks for sharing and we will see you on the next one. Have the most amazing day everyone.
I'm lucky where I live, we have a world foods market like a half mile away. I get lost in there every time I visit exploring all the exotic imports. It was the only place I could locally find rose water and imported ghee from India. If you have ethnic markets in your town, definitely visit them. It will open up a whole new food world for you.
Love what you said "I get lost in there" it truly is an escape from the crazy of the world. I could spend hours in those places, thinking not just only about the foods but the countries where they came from and the customs practiced by people from far away ;)
This is a great video.....well done Blanche and your video guy does a great job for you guys!
Thanks Kirk!
Oh my dad still talks about his grandma's kibbeh. My earliest memories were about this.
love this video! such fun to go shopping in a real Arabic market, so many things i'd like for my kitchen.
Get me to the Nigella seeds! Mmmm 😋
Yes they had that too and Nigella oil, never saw that before!
AYYYYYYY YOU ROCK. PERFECT!!!!!!
Hi everybody if you haven't yet buy Blanche's cookbook. Of course as you don't go grocery shopping on an empty stomach don't look at the pictures in this Cookbook without at least having a snack near by. You'll gain five pounds just looking at the pictures of these dishes.
LOL remember pictures are calorie free! =)
Love you Blanche!
Aww love you too Nino ;)
I wish there is an Arab shop in Istanbul like this one 😢
I am sure you have some incredible Turkish shops! =)
Nice. When I will visit SF Bay Area, I will make sure that I stop by the store. I will order Booza for sure.
I wish we had all these things where I live 😭
Aww I wish so too--you never know though, I find these markets in the most unassuming neighborhoods!
Wow I loved all the variety. We don't get such variety in our middle eastern supermarket in the small city I live in Australia.watching this made want to go middle eastern supermarket to pick up a few things and h hopefully I can find some freshly made kunefeh usually I find it during ramadan
Yes they tend to make special fresh pastries for Ramadan--wish you lots of luck!
Very happy to see you. God bless you
God bless you too love! ;)
I’m going to make a list of middle eastern grocery stores in our city. I live near a large city with metro area; population 600,000 approximately. So I’m on a hunt to see what we have! I’m afraid we don’t have a store like that!! Is that Los Angeles???
HI Jane! I am in Silicon Valley. What you can do is also check to see if you have any Persian markets. They usually have at least 1 in these large cities. Good luck!
Great video!
Mosaic Market is a Middle Eastern Grocery store from heaven. I am sure you will find there the real Snoubar Balady, the one you asked me about - not the Korean/Chinese/Russian bad stuff.
thanks my dear like 6 !
Went to my local mid eastern store today 😁
Masha'Allah nice 👌
If you pour the hone/nut xixture into a serving bowl it would mix everything up and not look pretty. From what I can see (on YT) the ME people do everything formal ( nice dishes/trays)so I can’t see that jar going out on the table. How would you serve the nut/honey topping in a serving bowl?
It would look pretty over a a circle of brie, or over little glasses of yogurt for dessert.
Think I gotta take a drive down to the peninsula to check this place out, the stores I’ve been to in Sacramento are not as nice as that one. So when you gonna post a Molokhia recipe?:) I miss that dish, loved it growing up.
You know we shot a molokhia recipe last year, but the camera man's hard drive crashed and the video disappeared, we will have to work on another one! ;)
Alas, somehow YT did not print that I want to learn more about the Middle Eastern cuisine and a sensitive digestion that hopefully, would be tolerated
Great episode as always. I always wanted to buy those mason jars of nuts with honey, but would wonder how I could scoop out of the jar. Wouldn't it be rock hard with the dried up honey inside?
Actually it was soft--no dried up honey (just make sure its fresh by checking expiration date) =)
You viedios my favourite
Best tahini we use is al kanater
Thanks for the tip!
I need to move to california
Nice 👍
Oh, Blanche. That was painful to watch, but painful in a GOOD way. ;-) I live in SW MO in a culinary void, the other end of the spectrum from Austin. I came here from retirement in Nicaragua chasing a woman and got stuck here. I need to win the lottery. ;-)
Hope you win it soon and get some good eats out there! ;)
@@blanchetv Coincidently, this video came up on my CZcams feed. I had commented recently that this soup, presented to us by our host in San Sebastian, was probably my favorite meal there. ;-) czcams.com/video/fixHiTWKRWA/video.html
@@lonniepee9804 Oh wow thanks for the recipe! Time to make it and relive my beautiful memories of San Sebastian-looks like a solid recipe!
where is that store ?
9 - 37th street in San Mateo California

Hello Blanche and any Arab friends on here that can help me out. I have so enjoyed this channel and have just found a lovely Middle Eastern Market in my town. We've been twice and the family that owns it seems so sweet and very helpful as we shop their store. However, I am unaware of the rules of Arab hospitality and I have some questions. First, if they ask us to bring the food we cook are they serious or just picking? Also, and most importantly the real reason of this posted question, we used our card last time and the next day saw on our account that they credited back the entire amount we spent. 😳 Is this a type of Arab hospitality or is this possible cause for concern. My family is clueless how to process this. Thank you so kindly to whomever may give some insight.
HI Michelle, it is not uncommon for Arab families to give free merchandise for people they really like =) As for asking to bring food you cook, they are probably just joking--but if you make a special dessert they would probably be touched if you brought some in, but they don't expect it at all.
My friend used to joke about “booza coosa”.
Every day the ice cream maker was working, Tony would ask “do you have booza coosa”.
The ice cream maker used to make a confused face and say no.
One day, the ice cream maker wanted to surprise Tony and made booza coosa.
When the ice cream maker saw Tony walking up the street, he says “I made booza coosa, Tony!”
Tony says “yeh yeh yeh! booza coosa”🤢 “are you crazy”!
LMAO!!!
Only thing that disappoints me about these markers are the prices. They're unfortunately so high. I don't know how the average person affords it!
Every supermarket is crazy expensive right now because the fuel to transport the goods is so costly. At my local Safeway a dozen eggs have reached 9 dollars, I can't believe it!
Allah protect you from bad eyes
Shukran! xo
99% imported authentic middle-eastern food
The problem with support small businesses is they have a horrible return policy!!
I would rather support small businesses than corporations that are destructive to our communities on so many levels--places like Amazon rip off the smaller businesses, before selling their products to us. Fortunately I have never had to return anything at a small business like this as I always loved what I purchased.
they have razon thin margins and are very helpful
Small businesses would definitely benefit from not having customers like you come in to their stores! It's a two way street, you don't like their return policy and they don't like your patronage! You both have the same expectations of each other. Kindly take your business elsewhere! Perhaps you can buy your reconstituted-substandard-unauthentic limited-selection middle eastern products, in massive family size packaging @ Costco. Good luck on finding what you're looking for!!
I always tell Americans to never shop at Arabic markets, and to only support places like Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Let them buy the shitty stuff. I don't want the prices to go up on the legit groceries that I buy >:)
(jk, jk)
I think half the Middle-Eastern products at the regular supermarkets were probably made when the Ottomans were still around
LOL hilarious! Yes you are probably right--foods they have been eating for 100s of years!
@@blanchetv Oh, I meant those actual products on the shelves at the American markets were literally manufactured during the times of the Ottomans. Like when great great great great grandpa Zidan was still alive lol
@@Mas_Tun lol! 😂
LOL!
I am against that. Ever think, why child feels drunk?! It is a strange habit and it is absolutely unethical.
What are you talking about
The only problem I have with the Jerusalem Olive oil is the bottle it should have been in a dark green glass or just put in a metal bottle to protect the oil quality Because the oil is very sensitive to flourescent light
There are a lot of great olive oils from Jerusalem in dark green glass bottles and metal containers. You just need the right brand. I really love Al' Ard brand
Uncle Roger hates this market LOL Because the market doesn't have refined seed oils or MSG
