I saw The Outsiders in grade 7
The first movie was NOT fast times at ridgemont high
@@DELC1exactly! It’s Wet Hot American Summer 😂
Goonies, Stand by me,and License to Drive.
@@williamsummerson1204definitely Stand By Me.
The Outsiders is amongst Francis Ford Coppola’s more underrated films
Yeah. Ralph Macchio along with CT Howell and the cast’s acting did a good job also Johnny became one of my favs even though he derserved better
Amen to that
Agree!
the first'Grown'" up films i saw
It maybe underrated but sure did bring it alive. Definitely my all time favorite movie & book and soon to be a Broadway musical!!!!
Goonies and Dead Poets Society had several actors that became famous later. And you can't forget River Pheonix in Stand By Me.
Agree with Goonies and Stand By Me, but Dead Poets might not qualify because of Robin Williams' already established career.
yeah, Stand by me was great, but these are great picks and Outsides definitely deserves the top spot.
@@Jenifer_R_ It did have a Young Ethan Hawke robert Sean leonard and Josh Charles, among others
@@bigmike2464 Agree, but Robin carried the film. Stand By Me, on the other hand, was carried by relative unknowns with Keifer Sutherland in a supporting role.
Yes, Thanos and Cable in the same movie.
The Outsiders was the first book AND movie that I was obsessed with. The cast, story, and directing are all top tier
I felt that
Same here. I find it kind of strange that most of the supporting actors in that movie are well known today, yet the main character (Ponyboy, played by C. Thomas Howell) didn’t get many noticeable roles after this.
@@joshmg25 I noticed that too. I always wondered about that 🤔
And now is on Broadway. I've heard mixed reviews but I'm hopeful.
Me, too!
"Phoebe Cates makes a memorable appearance"
...that's gotta be the understatement of the millennium 🤣
Last millennium at least
That one scene single handedly jump started a lot of guys into puberty.
As a 14 year old girl when Outsiders came out... I was fully aware of how great the cast was 💖
The Outsiders is one of the few books that I enjoyed reading for a class. I don't think I'll ever recover emotionally, but it's amazing.
I read it when I was younger. I cried when I saw it in the movie theater. Now, I am a schoolteacher and we read and analyze it every schoolyear. The Outsiders were the Curtis orphan brothers. They were not Greasers or Socs. Had the parents not died, Darel would have taken the football scholarship and gone to college.
Same!
@@disneygirl3630 Stay gold!
"Taps" (1981) - first film breaks for both Tom Cruise and Sean Penn. Timothy Hutton, Giancarlo Esposito, Evan Handler, Billie Van Zandt and more, most in their very first movie roles.
Ive waited YEARS for The Outsiders to make it to No.1 on The Mojo lists!! Its a masterpiece. My favourite movie of all time.
How could you forget Stand By Me!?
Right? Stand by me was loaded with talent.
my first thought too!
Right ‼️‼️‼️‼️
It was from the Stephen King novela (Bachman books) was 'the body,) epic!!
Gah I almost teared up with the five seconds of Johnny talking through his note to Ponyboy at the end of The Outsiders 😭😭
😢me,too!
@@leiamims3633 Me, three!
Stay gold...
The stars of "The Outsiders" were C. Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio, Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Diane Lane, Leif Garrett and... Glen Withrow? It's like everyone in this cast made it big (or really big) except poor Glen, who I actually have never heard of.
It's pretty cool that most of the movies in this list were teen drama coming of age movies. Shows how special that genre is in bringing an ensemble cast together in which many of them have became bigger names over the years
"Diner" by Barry Levinson - 1982. Cast included:
- Pre- Footloose Kevin Bacon
- Ellen Barkin
- Mickey Rourke
- Steve Gutenberg
- Paul Reiser
- Tim Daly
- Daniel Stern
Fantastic movie... especially the "Are you gonna eat that sandwich?" scene in the Diner... total ad lib
The Big Chill: William Hurt; Meg Tilly, Glen Close, Kevin Kline, Jeff Goldblum, Jo Beth Williams, Mary Kay Place, Kevin Kostner (the corpse).
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Mad World - 1962 Cast: Spencer Tracy, Buster Keaton, Dorothy Province, Rochester, Peter Falk, Mickey Rooney, Jonathan Winters, Ethel Merman, Joe E Brown, the 3 Stooges, Edie Adams, Dick Shawn, Milton Berle, Buddy Hackett. Sam Peckinpah, King of violent movies, makes a frenetic comedy... hilarious.... worth looking for.
Diner is a great pick.
Everyone in Mad Mad world was famous before the movie.
Diner was stacked, definitely belongs on the list.
Great call on Diner!
Rourke went on to have a great career (with all of its “ups” and “downs”) while showing some of the best acting/talent ever.
Guttenberg starred in plenty of box offices successes and 80s classics.
Bacon also became a star and proved throughout the years to be a really good actor.
Elle Barkin had/has a very good career.
Stern went on to appear in Home Alone, Hannah and her Sisters, Blue Thunder, City Slickers, and so on.
Tim Daly lowkey has had a pretty good career.
Paul Reiser ofc with Mad about You, Aliens, Beverly Hills Cop, so on.
Definitely The Big Chill, also! Terrific movie with such a great cast. One of the best
It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is a classic with a stellar cast.
I just saw The Outsiders recently I have never seen it before I absolutely loved Ralph Macchio acting in the movie incredible
same here I loved the whole cast along with acting
The outsiders is such a work of art I love this movie so much it deserves so much more than it has gotten
In Fast Times at Ridgemont High don't forget that there was also Anthony Edwards and Eric Stoltz as Spicoli's Stoner Buddies! :D
Taylor Negron pizza delivery, Nancy Wilson , Vincent Schiavalli(?),
The Outsiders is awesome! Dead Poets Society should be on the list.
I rarely read books before i see the movie, but I'm glad they made us read the outsiders in class.
Right? We even got to watch the movie after we finished it!
We did the same when I went to middle school.
Did this in my Language Arts class back in middle school. Read the book then watched the movie.
The Big Chill
Glenn Close, Jeff Goldblum, Meg Tilly, Tom Berenger, William Hurt, Kevin Kline, Mary Kay Place and Kevin Costner in his first role, only you only see his wrists.
A must watch
I was about to mention that one! That was such an important film and so many of them went on to be huge stars, especially Jeff, Glenn and Kevin.
I was going to mention this one myself. Costner's performance was a bit stiff.
My All Time Favorite! Great sound track as well. I read that live all lives together during the filming; to make it more of a tight knit relationship. It showed!
I'm going to say Cruel Intentions....Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Geller, Selma Blair, Sean Patrick Thomas.
No mention of Annie Potts in “Pretty In Pink”?
She was iconic!!
And Harry Dean Stanton as the father
"Ghostbusters! Whadya want?"
I was pleased to see School Ties on this list. These young actors were outstanding in their roles! Good movie too!
10 Things I Hate About You and pretty much every teen movie before the 2010s launched the careers of so many actors, living or dead, that are remembered to this day. Rest in peace to everyone featured in the video.
Agreed, plus Robin and the Joker actually attended the same high school! 😂
Can't Hardly Wait is one of my favorites that falls into this category.
Ooh, that's a good one!
The Outsiders has like every well known hot actor in the 1980s ever 😂
i love how the opening clip is from Wet Hot American Summer, but it's credited as Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Honestly was stunned by that insane mistake.
They also mention Cindy Williams being in “American Graffiti” but show Penny Marshall.
I came to the comments so fast to see if anyone else mentioned that mistake and I was shocked I had to scroll down so far to see yours!
Shocked seeing it too.
At this point, I can't tell if they're making mistakes because they churn out so many of these videos in a short period of time or they're intentionally doing so to increase engagement in the comments 🤔
Red Dawn (the 1984 original) is what came to mind when I saw the title.
"Wolverines!"
TAPS (1981) Tom Cruise, Timothy Hutton, Sean Penn, Giancarlo Esposito (and George C. Scott)
Brilliant addition.
I am so glad someone mentioned this movie.
The Outsiders is one of my favorite films ever.
One of my favorite things about the Outsiders movie is the poster. They're laughing because Macchio just shouted to Leif Garrett (actor/singer) that the food table he was walking to was for the talent. 😂
The summer I was 17 I read the book The Outsiders about once a week, and watched the movie at least once every weekend with my friends.
The Outsiders remains my favorite story/movie that I learned about in English class
Such a great emotional story about friendship, brotherhood, lifestyles and home lives
Platoon's cast was also INSANE. Should've been in the top 2.
I knew most of those actors long before that movie.
Can't believe you left out "Starter for 10" which is my ultimate go-to answer for this category. It has so many future stars I missed a couple the first few times I watched it...
How did Annie Hall not make your list? Shelley Duvall, Carol Kane, Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, Sigourny Weaver, not to mention Paul Simon and Marshall McLuhan
John Glover as well
Perfect thumbnail because I have this exact thought every time I watch 'The Outsiders'.
I love the Outsiders!
C Thomas Howell should have a bigger career now.
He didn’t age well & he did that movie in blackface
Dead Poets Society and Stand by Me were missed, should have been listed.
I remember watching School Ties back in the day but didn't realize who the other cast members were until today. I was focused on Brendan Fraser and Chris O'Donnell. Now I want to watch it again.
Also I have always loved The Outsiders and that was a stacked cast as was American Graffiti.
Matt Damon said Chris O’Donnell kept the auditions a secret from he & Affleck.
'Can't Hardly Wait' from 1998 has a stellar cast too. And don't even forget about the cast from 'The Breakfast Club' either.
1998 is too late for this list, the cast was already famous!
@@LaurenKaminski Wait, you're right. Oh well, if they're going to make a video listing movies in where the casts were already successful, then they have that one suggestion of 'Can't Hardly Wait' to add to that list (and also 'The Breakfast Club' now that I'm thinking about the cast there).
the last picture show with Randy Quaid, Jeff Bridges, Cybill Shepherd, Cloris Leachman and others.
The Outsiders is a great film. It should have won several Oscars in my opinion. It did do well at the box office so at least there's that.
My 3 favorites - The Big Chill- The Breakfast Club and St Elmos Fire!! All had young future all star cast members!
🌅 "Red Dawn" (1984)
I was thinking the same thing.
Red Dawn is watered down Outsiders.
This movie has two stars Charlie Sheen and Pre Dirty Dancing Patrick Swayze.
@@frayhua9716 Also Lea Thompson and Jennifer Grey.
Big Chill - yes many were already known but would become more famous after this film.
I was hoping to see Dead Poets Society 😔 the way they acted together is always special to watch
Thx, this is a stellar list!
So glad to see The Outsiders at #1.❤️
Just FYI…The Curtis brother’s house in Tulsa, OK (where the movie was filmed), is now a tribute museum, thanks to Danny Boy O’Connor of House of Pain fame. (‘The Outsiders House Museum’ on Google/FB/Twitter, etc.)
Too bad Platoon wasn’t on this list!
Diane Lane as Cherry and Rob Lowe were also in the movie
What about "Taps" 1981? With Sean Penn, Timothy Hutton and Tom Cruise
Also, Giancarlo Esposito
Superbad with Jonah Hill, Emma Stone, Bill Hader (at this point just an one-year cast member of SNL), Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Michael Cera and in small rolls Dave Franco, Clark Duke and Danny McBride
Damn this is a good one. What a major oversight by Watchmojo haha
Scott Pilgrim.
It stared so many actors who became big later.
I disagree. Several of them were already known before
Most of the cameo actors were already established. I would definitely shout out Brie Larson, though. I think she was the only relative unknown actress in the film who later became well-known.
@@jinakaye Naah I disagree. I mean Aubrey Plaza wasn't really a thing yet, same with Kieran Culkin. Mary Elizabeth Winstead had done some noteable roles but she became much bigger later. I also think it's worth to note that Chris Evans hadn't stared in the MCU yet.
@@RickeGnool Kieran Culkin was known since 1998 and made several independent films as a teenager. Chris Evans since 2001 with Not Another Teen Movie, Cellular and Fantastic Four.
@@cafeabasedecinema I don't know, Kieran's brother was the one who got the headlines when they were young
The Outsiders was the first book I read cover to cover as a very young reader. It completely fostered my love of reading to this day almost 50 years later. Although the movie does leave out some key points in the ending it still will always be one of my all time favourite movies. AND we can't forget that Melanie Griffith, Flea, Sofia Coppola and Leif Garrett were players also in the movie. Albeit some uncredited. 100%deserving of the top spot
Next Of Kin needs to be on this list. Patrick Swayze, Helen Hunt, Liam Neeson, Bill Paxton, William Baldwin, Ted Levine, Ben Stiller, and I'm always forgetting someone.
Great video and memories, Lost Boys comes to mind for me.
The World According to Garp (1985): Robin Williams, Mary Beth Hurt, John Lithgow, and Glenn Close (debut).
Breakfast club
That was favorite of mine!
totally agree. I have been saying for years that the outsiders was the best cast movies of its time and only rivaled by Dazed and confused and number 2 for the generational crystal ball.
I'm around the same age as Ralph Macchio and OMG I was head of heals for him when I saw that movie. I had never seen a human being so adorably cute as him ❤
St Elmos Fire. Lots of future talent there.
No, Angels in the outfield. That movie was stacked with future stars
When Star Wars first came out, one knew who Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher or Harrison Ford were, but now everyone knows them even if they haven’t seen Star Wars
Only Harrison Ford went on to have much of a career outside of the galaxy far far away...
@@rickpapineau5939
Hammil's *famous* as the Joker- yes, it's voice-work - but everyone knows it's him
John Hughes wrote Pretty In Pink but it as well as Some kind of Wonderful was directed by Howard Deutch.
Of course i do. Happy tuesday morning, Phoebe. Take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
Tootsie - Bill Murray played Michael Dorsey’s (Dustin Hoffman) best friend and Jane Krakowski in National Lampoon’s Vacation as the country cousin!
Charlie Sheen in Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Calista Flockhart in the Birdcage
Mayim Bialik - Beaches
Cynthia Nixon - Little Darlings
Great video!! And fun to watch. Some actors I didnt recognize till i saw this CZcams video!!! Thats sad!! LOL!! Austin TX USA
'Young Guns' - although they were already pretty famous, I guess - but then, what about 'Silverado'? Such a huge cast of actors who go on to be mega stars.
Well, there was The Big Chill in 1983 for one!
I clicked onto this because of the Outsiders. I’d forgotten about some of the others, or not heard of them. I may have to check out some of them or re-watch them with new eyes now knowing what I didn’t know then…lol. Funny how I didn’t recognize James Spader after all these years and I’ve watched Pretty in Pink so many times. I was a teen of the 80’s now I’m a huge Blacklist fan…lol.
Very very great epic list I like it a lot very very great job mis mojo one of my absolute favorite list ever and number one is one of the very best movies ever 😊❤
What about DONNIE DARKO?
Most of the young cast was unknown at the time
No this is from 2001,it’s too late & they’re already famous.
@@LaurenKaminski only drew was famous at that time Jake and Maggie were newcomers at that time
@@anikamathur02 Seth Rogan was in Donnie Darko.
I was very young when both of these came out so I'm not sure how notable some members of the cast were at the time, but two that come to mind are Earth Girls Are Easy and The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai: Across the Eight Dimension.
Earth Girls are Easy had early career Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis, Michael McKean, Damon Wayans, and Jim Carrey.
Buckaroo Bonzai had Peter Weller (pre-RoboCop), Jeff Goldblum, John Lithgow, Christopher Llyod, Ellen Barkin, and Jonathan Banks. Oh and how could we forget Yakov Smirnov.
Good list, but another movie is the original Red Dawn and TAPS. I would have also chosen Sixteen Candles or Back to School over Pretty in Pink.
Dead Poets Society was right there with tears in its eyes.
DPS wasnʻt there!!!
@@rkeonifairbanks7087 Hence the tears.
I remember watching American Graffitti with my parents as a kid and I couldn't, for the life of me, remember why Ritchie from Happy Days was appearing in a movie.
Dazed and Confused 😂🎉❤
Matt McConanghey became a household name thanks to his iconic catch-phase Alright,Alright,Alright.
“Ohhhh you damn right!”
One movie I would also throw in would be Big Fat Liar.
Along with Frankie Muniz & Amanda Bynes as the main leads who were big names at the time as well as Paul Giamatti before his career truly blossomed, the movie also had Taran Killam (hold your anger on him, I already know), Donald Faison, John Cho, Kenan Thompson before his time on Saturday Night Live, & Sandra Oh.
Boyz N The Hood is another great film with a great cast who would later become acclaimed actors: Cuba Gooding Jr, Ice Cube, Morris Chestnut, Laurence Fishburne, Angela Bassett, Nia Long, and Regina King.
Names that have stood the test of time. Can’t believe they are still making movies! 🍿
These are amazing films. It is nice now that films have started to also portray strong friendship bonds within groups of girls, in the same vein as the portrayals of strong bonds between male friends, especially growing up.
One the best childhood friendship films was Stand By Me. A wonderful, heartfelt movie with a great cast and well written story by Stephen King.
Wow! Great job Mojo, I didn’t know Amy Pohler was in Fast Times…it almost looks like a completely different move
That’s insane to look back on!
Fast times and The outsiders were inspirations to Riverdale, a show that i think will show to have a great cast in the future
I was so in love with Matt Dillon 😍. Great list, went back to memory lane 🪷💜🙏🏽
The Outsiders was the perfect #1. You did miss Dead Poet's Society from the list though.
Top Gun: Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Meg Ryan and Tim Robbins
Also the guy playing 'Sundown'- he ended up in Die Hard, & Walker: Texas Ranger {wonder if anyone has a list of the up & comers in *that* show?}
Reality Bites (1994): Winona Ryder, Ben Stiller, Ethan Hawke, Steve Zahn, Janeane Garofalo, Renée Zellweger, John Mahoney, Andy Dick.
Also, the soundtrack is fantastic!!
Angels in the Outfield, has quite the cast.
When mentioning Cindy Williams in American Graffiti you showed Penny Marshall…just anFYI
"Can't Hardly Wait" launched a dozen careers, highly underrated coming of age/teen movie.
The Outsiders definitely earned top spot and American Graffiti scored a solid second, but you failed to mention Suzanne Somers in the small role of the girl in the TBird pre Three’s Company.
I love the Outsiders is one of my favorite movies Awesome 💯🔥👏🏽
Love these movies:
1)The Outsiders
2)Pretty In Pink
3)School Ties
4)The Magnificent 7
5)American Graffiti
I remember reading The Outsiders in the 8th grade, probably about 8 years after the film came out. We watched the movie after completing the book and all the girls were hooting and cat-calling during the opening credits because all their heart throbs were in the same cast. And don’t forget that Stevie Wonder wrote the theme song specifically for the movie.
Dead poets society, 1989, please, in part II ❤
8:20 don’t forget Anthony Edwards, James Russo as the 7-11 robber..Eric Stoltz and a small, yet memorable cameo by Taylor Negron as the Pizza Delivery Guy
I always need to remind myself that The Magnificent Seven came *before* The Great Escape. Don’t ask me why…
Also Mackenzie Phillips is in American Grafitti.
Somehow I had a feeling The Outsiders was going to be Number One!
Princess Diaries - Sandra Oh, Anne Hathaway in her first role in a movie, and although Mandy Moore was a well known singer at the time, this was really her acting debut.
I didn't read The Outsiders, but I saw the movie. Actually, in high school, we had to read S.E. Hinton's Tex, and then we saw the movie, which had starred Matt Dillion. It was one of those coming-of-age stories. St. Elmo's Fire should have been on this list, as it had featured some of the Brat Pack. I noticed that some people had mentioned Stand by Me in the comments. I'm surprised it didn't make the cut. The Graduate is amazing! It's one of Dustin Hoffman's best roles.
Even if they didn't make the top ten, you should have included honorable mentions for films like Stand By Me, Reservoir Dogs, The Faculty, Sleepers and Can't Hardly Wait.
Agree on Reservoir Dogs
