- Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and director Martin Scorsese attend the London Film Festival Press conference for their movie The Irishman. They talk about the cast, de-aging VFX and Marvel theme park movies not being cinema... Shouldn't prove controversial at all...
During the interview they talk about why it took so long to make the film, Scorsese talks about his thoughts on releasing the movie on the Netflix platform and Al Pacino and Robert De Niro talk about what they thought the first time they saw themselves de-aged in the movie. The Irishman is based on the book by Charles Brandt.
The press conference was also attended by Producers Jane Rosenthal & Emma Tillinger Koskoff.
Plot: A mob hitman recalls his possible involvement with the slaying of Jimmy Hoffa.

Al Pacino stole the show, he gave the best performace of the year.
I’m obsessed with Scorsese’s endless energy!!
but less than Robert De Niro's energy ! They are as monster against time !
Any press conference or any interview with the 3 of them, Martin Scorsese is always talking more than the others. He also must be a very sharp guy, a very quick thinker... But Al and Bob are very good too.
Martin Scorsese: Best Filmmaker on the planet.
Robert Deniro: Best Actor in the Milky Way Galaxy.
Al Pacino: Greatest Actor In The Entire Fucking Universe.
This is like having God, Jesus and Moses in the same room. Tremendous
As much as I love all three of them, you’re over exaggerating the whole thing to the level of cringe.
De Niro and Pacino are the last living Legends of Hollywood.
I mean, not really true. But certain two of the biggest among them.
It is true. Kurk doglus and Jack Nicolson got nothing on these 2. These 2 established modern day cinema.
Scorsese is a bigger legend than both of them.
@Arab Pride . You’re ridiculous: there are many many many Living Legends still living in and around Hollywood and in New YorkAnd other places in the world..
Before you post something stupid why don’t you do some research?🤨
@@kattrakee Nobody that is living now are at the level of legendary that De Niro or Pacino enjoy. Maybe Jack Nicolson would be the closest thing following Meryl Streep. The fact that you failed to name such "Legendary" actors that could actually top De Niro and Pacino shows that you got nothing and that you are the one who needs to do "some research" lol .
Al pacino even if he just simply speaks feels like i am watching a movie. Such an art he has.
Oh yes, and that voice!!!
Saw The Irishman last night - Am Pacino needs to start writing his Oscar speech because his name is on the Best Supporting Actor Oscar next February.
ooooo haaaa
De Niro's performance was incredible as well.
@@Revolver1981 I agree but think that Best Actor will be between Joaquin Phoenix and Adam Driver. But there's no denying that Robert de Niro will be nominated.
Where can i watch this movie right now
@@singin8324 It isn't released until the 1st of November in America and the 8th of November in the UK but it's only getting a limited release because Netflix are cunts. It's available on Netflix from the 27th of November.
What a brilliant film. Saw it last night and it really makes you frustrated with how bad the current state of the movies industry is especially with Scorsese’s comment about marvel. It’s easily one of the top 5 of the decade. De Niro, Pacino and Pesci in particular are all at their best here. It’s a melancholic, mature and thoughtful movie which is wonderfully acted.
Wonderfully put.
Sweet can't wait for that and the Lighthouse
Ty J Don’t forget about Parasite
Where are you and some others able to see it? Great review
I never want Al Pacino to apologize for anything. All he needs to say is “you’re welcome.” He’s a legend.
uuuuuh haee anikka
At the begining a lack of touch from Scorsese and De niro to Mr. Al Pacino, he deserves a better Introduction being Al Pacino!!!, he is doing a favor to them for be in the Movie and not otherwise..
@@nickrmz6443 Shut up it's always been Pacino's fulfilment to be in a Scorsese movie. And what do you mean a lack of touch from De Niro and Scorsese?
Revolver No needs to be rude, at the end its only an opinion, as well as yours, got it?
"and, it all started.....because of one nasty little Martini".... Salutes Al
These guys aren’t getting any younger - living legends whose legacies will endure
Just enjoy the wine while it lasts .
Three living legends of American cinema-who knows how much longer they’ll be around to answer questions for us-and every single question was banal and boring. Reporters in general ask tedious, stupid questions, but entertainment reporters are the worst.
I like Marvel films but to a certain extend I agree with Martin Scorsese that some of the Marvel films will not stand the test of time.
I wonder what scorsese think of dc comics film such as batman
TRUE THEY'RE AN ATM FOR THE STUDIOS
Jurassic park is garbage as well as the marvel movies. theres no difference
Black Panther and Captain Marvel will.
I loved you in Woodstock.
THE IRISHMAN | "It's very long, and Bob is in it."
miranda c and fannies your aunt!
Great movie and De Niro's performance was top notch.
@Divine_D De Niro's the greatest actor.
@Divine_D settle down asswipe
The difference between DeNiro and Pacino is that Pacino studied to be an Actor. Pacino is the Professional one!
Table full of LEGENDS.
Every single one of these men deserves a movie biopic based on their life.
Stephen Graham who played "Tony Pro" should be on that set. He's going to be as great as DeNiro and Pacino. I hope movie makers take notice and cast him in future projects.
Al Pacino. A true fashion icon
Fantastic journalism from FM104 in Ireland there, what a question, as an Irishman, I sat here cringing.
"Was it mad to see yourselves on screen looking younger?" . Baffled looks on all faces. You know they have very popular film recordings of themselves dating back over 40 years, all they have to do is watch any of them. "Mad Ted". You'll never get the chance to ask those men a question again, massive fail hehe
Stephen Hutchinson Yeah that question was bizarre, I loved the baffled looks 😂. Overall, I can’t believe how poor the questions are for supposed “professionals”. I hope they’re not getting paid for that. Fans on CZcams could do a better job for free.
I think the question was quite good and Robert answered it quite well. Seeing themselves young, is sort of a big deal with this new technology, the stress being on technology as they could play younger parts now too potentially
Scorsese is a great director.
Marty is correct about Marvel. THEY SUCK. No one will see them in 10 years. But everyone will return to Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Goodfellas and Raging Bull.
Don't forget about Casino
The Departed, Wolf of Wall Street, Shutter Island.
People are going to remember both because like it or not, Marvel movies strike a cord with people and are loved. Stop trying to make a silly competition out of everything.
@@thereccher8746 They don't strike a cord, its pure sensationalism. They don't have the depth of Marty's work at all. And ya its not even competition. Its pure blandness.
I agree. We need the big studios and movie theatre chains to realise we need true cinema. Summer blockbusters can be fun but they’re not cinema. I think it’s happening now with the mainstream success of Joker albeit that is a “comic book movie”
Joe seemed out of place in the last interview. He definitely bailed on this one. But anyways, three living legends! I can't wait to see Irishman. THE movie event of the year!
Don't think he travels for press. This is in UK.
Can’t wait for this movie
Al Pacino ❤️❤️❤️
Divine_D yes he is I’m obsessed
I love him too, such a down to earth guy!! And still handsome and looks young
The movie is unbelievably good.
Pesci is absolutely lethal.
I take it you saw it last night. I watched it last night & it’s definitely not a Goodfellas Part II. It stands on its own. Al Pacino is a lion.
Where
Hope real cinema is back,,, and it stays
De Niro's performance was incredible.
I will watch any film in theatre as long as Pesci is in it.
Any.
I love how Scorsese has to coax De Niro into answering the question at 24:36, otherwise he wouldn't have said another word for the rest of the panel.
Totally agree. Even in 'The Irishman: In Conversation', the rest of them just didn't shut up 😃. Haven't seen much of De Niro in interviews but that made me feel he doesn't like talking much. From this interview, when he did speak especially in the part about the emotional angle of the movie, he made a lot of sense
Been looking forward to this like no film for probably 20 years. It's like Christmas.
All three represent more than 210 years of life, and it shows, great talents without a doubt.
This is my most anticipated film.
Hes right about the marvel pictures. (dont watch them myself),its just hollywood has (as usual) found something that makes money and ran with it...if people like them ,and they obviously do,the'll keep making them, nothing wrong with that, but they aint exactly real life human drama. (which i think is his point about them)
Modern Cinerma is dead-I find more joy going back in time to esoteric cinema than anything, check out ManOnaSwing,Split IMage,BestSeller:)Having things like Winter Kills or Day of The Locust is good too:)I've only seen Ironman3&CaptainaAmericawintersoldier.
Yeah I believe it's like saying 'Comic books aren't real books'. Which may be easier to understand for people. I actually do like them myself, but I can see where he is coming from
@@johnshields_ "Comic books aren't novels" is the distinction I think he's trying to make between "theme park experience" type films and cinema as he knows it, the same way that he makes a distinction in this interview between a long form TV mini-series that might feel "cinematic". But I don't know, where do you draw the line? I doubt Scorsese would argue that Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, The Terminator, Robocop, Hard Boiled, The Matrix, The Bourne Identity, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Kill Bill, or Mad Max: Fury Road aren't cinema. But it shouldn't be a quality identifier either. Battlefield Earth and The Room are still cinema. He's trying to identify a change in the form itself.
@@ryangettig274 esoteric? .. Best Seller? with James Woods???
@@ryangettig274 I believe there's a new golden age coming, Directors like Scorsese, P. Anderson, Tarantino, W. Anderson, David Lynch, Brian De Palma, Alfonzo Curon, Woodie Allen and many others now and before are leaving an insane path of inspiration. It is so easy to watch a film these days, hey I wouldn't be so interested in them if it wasn't for streaming (or perhaps it would of took me longer to realize they are something more than time passers).
Making a film too, easier than ever before! Think of all those potential Directors who just couldn't afford the equipment, so they just kept on puting it off or they just listened to the people that didn't believe in them. There are a lot of creative minds put to waste and I think there's more of an opportunity now if you have a realistic plan in place and you are not just going off luck.
Film can only get more beautiful with new technology, but in some cases the old ways are always the best. I feel confident in the future of cinema
"Long form TV is not cinema" This needs to be said louder and more often.
he called MARVEL films, theme park films again hahahahahahahaha
Good thing Al Pacino was there to coax Bobby to say some-thing....
mr deniro: the master of unintentional comedy.
A moron.

I cannot wait for this. All 3 of my guys. Scorsese DeNiro collaboration. Love it.
That's 230 years of experience right there on that panel.
19:00 Brilliant answer to stupid question. Bravo Marty!!!
The first thing De Niro does is an impersonation of himself
Michael Evans lmaoooooo
🤣🤣😂😂😂
What a loud mouth ass
De Niro actually spoke much better than Pacino here.
Al Pacino is the GOAT
3 living legends of the cinema. I dont think something like this will ever be repeated. This is truly once in a lifetime experience. Thanks netflix for funding this film where other studios refused.
Yeah it's just a pity Netflix are a bunch of tight fisted bastards who won't give it a proper cinema release.
Irishman and Joker; 2 💎 of 2019 by Hollywood...stay blessed.
Anand G I loved Joker, but it’s very overrated by people who only watch superhero and action movies.....
@@Random131_ it's not even a superhero movie? Not even really a comic book movie. It's a brilliant movie period.
I agree
Once Upon A Time in Hollywood...
@@HXNZ99 Never said it was, never even said it wasn't a good movie. Said people I've mentioned went in the movie because of the name "Joker", but they got something different than what they originally expected, and thought this was revolutionary, hence seeing it as never done before, and eventually overrating it
8:29 could've been "you talking to me?" But no, you had to mess it up, Pacino
3 legends all at once.
Pesci's a made man, he doesn't like the spotlight.
Alrigh' there Begbie?
He is shining shoes
I heard you play pool like paul newman
Wonderful film. Marvelous performances, great script and of cause Martin Scesese's fabulous direction.
19:51 I’m so glad he said that, because I was under that belief and don’t think many people gave that much thought.
I wish people would stop reading the headlines and actually listen to what Scorsese is saying.
@22:30 🌟"I am a scary judge of talent; it's my gift"
In 2019, each major studio produced about 15 films. Netflix produced 57. And when Netflix surpassed The Walt Disney Company in stock valuation, the writing was on the wall. The steaming wars have begun and will transform the business forever. If you like the theater experience, now is a great time to go out and support it.
Damn, Marty is still really sharp and energetic for his age.
These are my Italian paisanos. I love them all and they are the best actors.
three legends going around
VALUE THEM LOVE THEM THEY INVENTED CINEMA
I am looking forward to buying tickets for The Irishmen for it's Theatrical Run Big Time! love that Martin smack-talked Marvel the way they deserve&after First Reformed I hope he collaborates one last time with Paul Schrader:)Lord God ,Pleasegive John Milius his speaking voice back sooner than later:)

The amount of dumb questions from the journalists is just incredible.

Brilliance On Display in Thought, Design, Creativity and Realization . . . should be an Exceptionally Superb Film!
It is an exceptionally superb film.
Thanks
At 3.50, De Niro and Scorsese mention the French actor Jean Gabin. I wrote a book about him (crass plug): www.jeangabinbook.com
bravo guys
Scorsese’s comment about the cinematic expos the stuff that will be written about for generations. Genius.
This movie out 3-4 weeks and it’s already a classic....100 years from now they ganna be Watchin it
does anyone know the names/titles he mentions at 3:46?
I found who Jean Gabin is but the rest are as confusing as Pacino's face
Scorsese’s answers are deeper than an English majors final essay
I am from India, I wanted to watch it in theatre, but, I guess I have to stick to netflix only
Netflix are known as the scum of the movie making business.
It's gonna be screened in Mumbai at the MAMI film festival.

Is there any chance it will screen in theatres in India on 1st of November??
Pacino was the only one who didn't bring the mic closer to his face and he kept talking to the side when looking at Marty. I don't think he was aware that the mic was what he needed to speak into to be heard.
I am so excited for this movie. I love them all but love Bob the most
The Legends of Hollywood on a single stage!!
How fortuitous that the Netflix/theatrical distribution “strategy” was adopted for The Irishman. Those who wanted to were able to go to see it in a communal setting, and then that option was taken away by this pandemic and the closing of theaters.. And everybody was able to watch on their phones.
50 years from now they ganna be watching the Irishman....just like the rest of the great classics
Al pacino what a carisma
I totally agree. I can listen to him forever
Legends !
Pesci doesn't like spotlight
Robert De Niro said in another interview that Joe Pesci had retired and he had to persuade Pesci to do this movie.
I'm looking forward to this. Sick of fast n furious 10, Batman 15, whatever Spiderman movie they're up to now. It's all brainless fun . I mostly stopped watching new Hollywood movies, weak actors no soul
Well said!!
Batman 15. I am dead🤣🤣😒😂🤣
Allan Brown There’s been 9 live-action Batman films but there working on Batman 10 lol
Divine_D Nolan’s Trilogy is great, and Christian Bale was great as Batman. Don’t take that away from him because of Ben Affleck....
@Divine_D I mean, I am as well. Hollywood figured out that making those Action/Superhero movies will appeal to the majority and will always make money, which is the most important thing to them. You'll rarely even see great directors nowadays which says a lot really.
Finally TONY meets JIMMY! #icons

Not sure why ppl are bitching about Martins comments. He's right. Most of the comic book films...and yes especially Marvel are catering to the theater park experience. There's no risk, no nuance and at the risk of offending their pals in china the end up with cookie cutter films.
Yes,nobody wants to see the same old cut outs yet I appreciate MCU more than DCU,
and enjoy DCTV than MCTV sad to hear Agents of Shield will end after 7th season. W0W

The length of the Irishman is nothing compared to the Hungarian film 'Satantango', which clocks in at a whopping 7 hours.

i have to admit, some of these questions were really deep in thought, yet also really stupid for them to answer.
