- Music by Tony Banks from Genesis' "Wind & Wuthering" (1976)
Hi again! My arrangement for guitar of this great Genesis/Banksian song . Some imprecisions and offtime bits here and there but I think that's the best my weak hand can deliver. I had to sacrifice the repetition of the verse in the beginning because my camera doesn't record more than 10 minutes straight so it would have been risky to include it. Enjoy! - Hudba
I'm speechless. Lifelong guitarist, Hackett fan, Genesis fan, I would not have believed this was possible on solo guitar. The hours you must have spent... beautiful!
Thanks Mike. I have more Genesis for solo guitar to share. Hope to be posting soon.
Oh, man. The whole thing. Truly Herculean of you. I never would have thought some of that was possible. Very Nice.
"Herculean" is the word! But I'm not. I could barely hold those barre chords at the end. Thanks a lot for commenting Tony and hope to hear more from you soon.
Hyperboreal: you just got called "herculean" by Hercules. And well-deserved- beautiful, amazing, work; like MacArthur and Schwarzenegger, I'll be back.

Posso solo dire che sei meraviglioso! GRANDE!!!!!❤
Superb work. Bravissimo.
Meravigliosa interpretazione. Bravo davvero!!!!!!!!!!! Genesis sempre nel cuore.😍
Esto algún día será música clásica a la guitarra, gracias por invitarnos a escuchar semejante belleza. Los componentes de Genesis tienen que estar más que orgullosos al escuchar su impagable versión.
Very nice , you play wonderfull thanks for this !
Thanks for watching!
Eccezionale mi hai fatto venire i brividi
Speechless
Absolutely wonderful, Alex!
Thanks, man!
Amazing.
love it---such great timeless music
Outstanding - totally amazing!
Wow, that's brilliant!
Beautiful! Wonderful! I love it.
Wow, this is great!
Thank you for this.
Superb. Probably my favourite Genesis track off my favourite album. Your adaptation including the clever percussion bits are very clever.
Absolutely wonderful job!
Absolutely stunning
Just brilliant....thank you so so much for the work and performance
That's fantastic! Oh, man... wonderful at all !!!
Rather masterful. I could listen to a whole album of these songs in this style. Very cool.
My favorite song of my favorite group. I do not know how to thank you. I'm very happy. What a great emotion I feel listening to all the steps with the arrangement you've made! It is not easy to create this atmosphere using the guitar instead of the piano, which is a more orchestral instrument with all the harmonics it is able to produce. Thank you again. Hello from Italy, the country that has so loved the Genesis and continues to love their music.
Amazing...veeeeeery good! Congratulations!
Amazing! you play so well, what you have done is brought out the real beauty in their music which was always there, well done!
Sono strabiliato dalla bravura e dalla partitura per acustica. Complimenti veramente 👍👍👍🎸
Very nicely played, my favourite tune from genesis, love it
Incredible job, just wow
incalificable! Una nueva dimensión de esta música

Very nice, man! Wonderful arrangement! :)
Wwwwwwooooooowwww! That's fantastic!!!! No words to comment on this wonderful work!!!! Congratulations!!!
Very glad you liked it.
Beautiful !
Stupenda!!!!
Beautifull really. Everybody is waiting for you covers, even here in italy ...Great job man!!
There will be more Genesis to come, have two more arrangements I haven't recorded yet. Grazie!
Excelent work !!!
Amazing
Yo...Superb!! Yes, there are some that appreciate!! Thank you!
Beautiful! One of their greatest songs and kind of underrated. It's easy to see why it took Banks a year to work on this song, it is indeed "just right".
It's another Banks gem that I'd have loved to watch live back in the day. Thanks for watching.
Amazing arrangement and beautiful performance. I am such a huge Genesis fan and I appreciate the time and effort you put into this song.
Thanks a lot, when it comes to Genesis music the amount of time and effort spent is really worthy.
Just magnificent ! Really true to the original melody and complex harmonies. Well done !
Thanks David!
Enchanting
Bravo, great to watch and great to listen to a song off what I consider to be the pinnacle of Genesis albums.
Thank you Jonocynic9, best song off W&W for me. Banks' chords are second to none.
Fantastic
He's back! Beautiful arrangement and playing ! Been enjoying your Genesis videos for years
Thank you King, there will be more.
DUDE! What a very talented player you are. Each note is spot on. I hear you representing Phil's vocals. With the bass notes, (01:27), I hear Tony's "bottom end" rising up to take prominence. On and on and on. Very, very well done mate.
Thanks so much. I wish the bass notes were louder since I didn't use nail on my right hand's thumb.
@@hyperboreal Maybe add "bass pedals" and play the as Mike does (lol), now THAT would be spectacular!
Again, great playing.
@@g.e.5723 That would do the trick ;^)
Hyperboreal is literally Superlative. What a fantastic rendition & what an accomplished player, excellent 👌
I did not think this was possible. You are amazing.
Thanks, Phillip. Stay in tune for more Genesis (might upload another Banks' song).
Incredible
That is crazy good
I'm just sorry that I can't like this more than once, just brilliant, thank you.
No worries, happy that you liked it so much.
Beautiful ..!!!
Thank You.
I posted this video to a friend for her birthday...she loves this song and this is a very original version. Thank you hyperboreal you're an excellent guitarist!
Thanks for sharing it. Hope she likes my version :^)
Superb!
MASTERPIECE -- I would see this guy in concert.
Totally amazing to hear the whole piece played on one instrument like that and that was very special and lovely to hear.
Thanks so much again, Lee. And everyone said I was crazy to try such thing... Hahahaha! Hehehehe! Hihihihi! Nah, nobody ever said that :P
Well no doubt to play it like that, your job is a lot harder than all the individual band members of Genesis that's for sure and that must of took a hell of a lot of working out as well.
Awesome!
Great Beatiful Transcription
perfectly executed. Love how you change the voicings slightly with each iteration of a part :)
practice practice practice....... incredible work
Unbelievable 😮
que bello trabajo ¡¡¡
Hi, as a big fan of Genesis since 1978 I would like to salute you. Your work on Genesis master pieces is outstanding.
enaldops Thanks! Always a pleasure for me to share my love for Genesis' music with all of you.
My favorite song on classical!!
Fantastic ..Brilliant talent..possibly best post Gabriel Genesis track
Good god. Amazing!
Incredible!
Wonderful as always :)
Thank you Mia. And belated happy birthday for you ;)
Thanks!
I was just watching this on piano and thinking I probably could arrange this for guitar, then thought "nah, so many slash chords, it's probably impossible to get it sounding good". I wish I hadn't double checked, now I have to learn it or constantly wonder why I'm not :) Because this is amazing. You even nailed that epic chord at 2.46.
And what a song this is BTW. One of the greatest songs ever written I think.
Thanks a lot. It does have a good amount of bar chords so I had to practice quite a bit for this one. That chord is an Em6 and I love it too. So glad you liked it ;)
respect!! great play
wonderful
lovely trascription, congratulations my friend!
Very beautiful
Thank you, Pete!
That is outrageously good. The percussive, sort of flamenco parts in the middle are brilliant. I remember reading an interview at the time with TB, and he said he wanted to see how many different parts he could include in one song and still have it work as a song. There is so much in this, and you did it all. Fantastic achievement. I hope you had a drink after that one !
Thanks so much, Jim. The man is a genius building chord sequences. And sure, this one deserves "one from the vine" after completion 🍷 Cheers!
wow!...nicely done!
Another marvelous transcription
/arrangement! I don't know how you do, but you do. Well done!
Just listening ;) Thanks a lot, Walker.
superb thank you!!!!
juste énorme, un vrai plaisir de t'écouter ....
Merci beaucoup, Serge.
Unbelievable - but you did it. Amazing
¿Qué puedo decir?
¡Que estoy extasiado!
Buen performance.
Linda apresentação.....❤❤....essa música 🎶 é uma das minha favoritas do Genesis.
Muito obrigado!
Respect
Another revelation! The piece loses nothing compared to the original. On the contrary, the harmonics, the living-room feel, the clarity of the composition and the clear line drawn from Spanish composers for guitar make this even more valuable! Thank you!
Wow, thanks so much to you. I really appreciate it.
Bravo!!!
An amazing undertaking, a truly, beautiful result.! Meticulous and lovely unto mine ears! Methinks that the Gods hath favoured thee, and that the Muse doth graciously inspire thee! Or maybe you have walked into a valley, all alone. And in that valley, thou hast talked with water, then with the vine.

Congratulations for your wonderful arrangement and your passionate performance Alex! I'm just back home from Steve Hackett's gig here in Rome and you know what? He performed One for the Vine as well! but your version is much more intimate and less predictable, some of your guitar solutions are really amazing, I find a deep effort to research a personal interpretation with fantasy, still remaining along the original path. Thanks so much for this video, hugs!
Your comment is very appreciated for me as always, Fulvio. There were some parts that I could have resolved differently (festive middle part for instance) but this is the way it went at the time of the recording. Grazie!
Bravo!
best thing on youtube in a month.
This is really good!
As both a classical guitarist, Genesis fan and member of a Genesis tribute based in Canada I absolutely love your take on what is likely my favourite Genesis piece of all time. You bring out all of the best moments with a mere six strings. Fantastic!
That's a great compliment coming from someone like you. Thanks a lot, marticus.
Though it’s difficult to pick a single favourite Genesis song(Dancing With The Moonlit Knight, Firth of Fifth, Carpet Crawlers, Entangled, Mad Man Moon, Blood On The Rooftops are all up there), One For The Vine holds a special place for its mesmerizing imagery woven into a haunting tale of a spiritual/political leader’s rise and fall, from obscurity to revelation to quest, into myth and back to obscurity, after witnessing the torch being inadvertently passed to another “on a distant slope” “without hope”. There are so many layers and parallels of personal perseverance and disillusionment in this song, wrapped in a beautifully emotive composition with a brilliant arrangement. After 40 years of having it roll across these interior skies, it still gives me cause to shiver and reflect with wonderment upon it’s effects.
How you managed to transcribe the entire song for one guitar is utterly beyond me; a daunting task and it speaks to the depth of meaning the song must have for you as well! Thank you so much for your hard work to bring this passion to fruition and sharing it with us all!
I’m a big fan of Tony’s compositions as well as Steve Hackett’s. I play nylon, steel string, and vintage/newer guitar synths. More in an ambient dub vein; I doubt I’d ever even try to learn a tune such as this but I do have a great appreciation and gratitude for your efforts!! 🙏🏼
And to marticus - are you a member of The Musical Box?? If so, please please come play Saskatchewan! If you’re able, make it Saskatoon. I don’t live there but I’d most definitely travel for it, and you’d get the best audience there. They say Saskatoon has one of the most connected and supportive music scenes in Canada. It’s a small city but I would wholeheartedly agree!
@@hyperboreal oh man, and you’re an Anthony Phillips fan toooo?!! Of course you are!
SUBSCRIBED!! Hahaha
@@turtledirt6837 Yes, I am! Thank you for your passionate comment on OftV.
Great!!!
Awesome! You are really good.
congratulations, faithful to the original, I simply traveled in the harmony and subtlety of the chords.
